  1. I'm in the habit of leaving my cb on with squelch set to around 16 when I ride, even if I'm not in a group. Just wondering... how many other's leave their cb turned on in case they come across another Venture rider going the other way?
  2. Picked up a multi-meter today at Canadian Tire $150. One of those "does everything" units. Labelled as an Innova 3340a. Web site http://www.iequus.com. No excuse to synch the carbs now. I'm due for the 25,000km tune up (16,000mile). Thinking all I need to do is oil change, maybe air filters (or at the very least blow them out), carb tune, adjust idle. Got new tires last year. Brakes are original and have a full set of EBC for front back. At the NY rally last year Pioneer said I still had 1/2 of the pad remaining. Could do them but to me they look good still. Never rotated them. Brake and clutch fluids still clear. Used Seafoam over the winter and add some periodically to the tank. Manual calls for : - Final gear oil change - coolant change (bike is 2yrs old) - swingarm pivot bearing repack - steering bearing repack (recently tightened steering head) - rear suspension link pivots grease For the last five... should I have the dealer do it (for warranty purposes) or is it easy enough to do yourself? I have a lift, lift adapter. Never done these things before. Generally, if it's in the book... I can do it. What about valve adjustment? Needed now or later? Spark plugs ?
  3. This is the one I was considering that comes with an inductive pick-up. http://www.harborfreight.com/lcd-automotive-multimeter-with-tachometer-kit-95670.html This seems to be the gist of the customer reviews : "This was a real disappointment. Don't buy it for the tach function or the temp probe...... The tach reading jumps all over the place and it only works down to a 3cyl. I bought this for the tach function and was really let down."
  4. Thanks for the offer. I was thinking of riding down to the ones near Buffalo but after reading the customer reviews I'm thinking you get what you pay for. The customers don't rate it very well. I'm going to keep on the look out for something better (accurate). Even though it is only for the occassional carb tune I'd rather have something "right".
  5. Harbor Freight has a digital multi-meter for $30 but can't find anything in Canada that is similar.... or anywhere near that cheap.
  6. Any recommendations on a reasonably priced multi-meter that does rpm or a clip on tach for the carb tune work? (in Canada)
  7. Question is... did you call her to make getting into trouble worth it for her?
  8. It isn't just cages to watch out for. Saw a sport bike doing 30km more than the traffic on the highway and he was zipping in and out of cars, changing lanes....
  9. Okay.... better idea... personal cooling vest http://www.veskimo.com/microclimate-body-cooling-vests.html
  10. Taking a trailer with you? Wire up one of these and run an insullated tube to the front of the bike. Could take the cassette out and put a vent where the cover is to blow air conditioned air at you. http://www.cruisencomfortusa.com/brochure.php :-D
  11. Think it depends on which HF trailer you buy. The Tag-along seems to be long enough (twice the distance between wheels). The other one's are "flat beds" that you add a car topper to. Seems that these are the ones people extend the tongue on.
  12. Okay...now I've done it. Finally got around to it. Reason I left it this long was that I was confused about where Dingy's tool came into use. For anyone else wondering.... the tool is used when you do the full adjustment by pulling off the handlebars, etc. You do not use the tool when you are just tightening the head the "easy" way. Simple procedure. Bike on lift ...Loosen the bolt on the top of the head (27mm) going at it from one side of the bike then the other. Don't need to remove it, just loosen it. Then, from the right side with a medium flat blade screwdriver, put the tip against one of the tabs on the lower nut and hit the screwdriver (gently) with a hammer driving the nut in a clockwise direction. Check steering to see if it "bounces" when nudged to one side or if when held in a certain position let the handle bars go and they should stay in that spot. Went for a ride today and let the bike coast with hands off (but near the grips) and the bike held a straight line without wobbling. Issue resolved. Any one want a "show and tell", let me know. Next... try my new carbtune on my own ! And oil change before heading to MD at Freebirds. Don
  13. If you are looking for a cb shop... there is one in Ayr on Cedar Creek Rd. by the 401.
  14. On May 3 at 9pm EST I went online and ordered a Carbtune Pro. $110 Cdn was billed to my credit card (Carbtune and case 67 Pounds) immediately. Promised 10 day air mail delivery. Today, May 10th, the package was delivered at about 10:30am EST. Basically 6 days delivery from the U.K. to Canada. Package marked as a motorcycle guage and no tax, no duty, no brokerage fees. Considering I've ordered from the U.S. before and shipped UPS and it has taken 2-3 weeks (including time held up in Customs) and cost me sales tax and Customs/brokerage fees. USPS is faster than UPS with no brokerage fees and occassionally sales tax added. 6 days from the U.K..... priceless !
  15. Sorry to hear about the job. Have faith, something will come along. Hope you and Jamie are recovering from the accident. Wish you both all the best. Don and Nancy
  16. Let me be the first.... helmet and proper gear saved his life. Yes... everyone (?) has the right to choose what to wear but in an accident every little bit helps. Only takes a second to be in an accident. Hope everyone has a safe riding season.
  17. The way I understand it.... if I have a warranty issue with my Canadian purchased bike while I'm in the U.S. I would pay for the work in the States and submit a claim to Canadian Yamaha. Likewise for U.S. bikes in Canada - submit the receipts to Yamaha U.S.. As for cost differences... today the Yamaha sites show : 2012 RSV 'S' - U.S. $20,190, Canada $19,999 2011 RSV 'S' - U.S. $20,090, Canada $23,899 (-$2,000 rebate until end of May) U.S. - "Limited Factory Warranty" Canada - "unlimited mileage warranty" Up until the 2012 model, the Canadian price was $3,000 to $4,000 higher despite the near par value of the US$ and Cdn$. As for the whine... if you contact a dealer they should be able to tell you what clutch basket was intalled in your bike. I work for Toyota and they keep track of everything that goes into our cars. Might be worth a call to see if they can tell you what basket was used. Mind you, some people have issues with the 'I' basket as well. It comes down to the alignment of the splines and the tolerances. If you come thru Ontario, post your route/timing on the site. A number of us in this area would enjoy getting together with you.
  18. Are you going to the International Rally in July? Pioneer Motorsport in Chaffee, NY is great to deal with and if you hook up with Chad on the phone he might be able to make arrangements to look after it for you while you are there.
  19. Glad to see you are back in the saddle again.
  20. Happy birthday !!!

  22. Only stating the facts. 1st or 2nd Gen.... don't care which one is faster. Just know they both get you to where you are going.
  23. He does but you have to step up to a 2nd Gen ! Only kidding... I have the Buddy Rich cable and it plugs in inside the fairing. I also have the Zumo 660 and thru the intercom can make or receive calls. It doesn't use the input on the cassette.
  24. Glad he was able to call for help. Wish him a speedy recovery.
  25. You should get her to join VR so she can tell her side of it !
