  1. Home ! Had a good ride. The group split up in Windsor. Evan, Phil, and I continued along the 401 and Wayne, Carl and Ben took highway 3. Not sure how they did with rain but we managed to stay between the clouds most of the way (rain to the North and South but we stayed dry) until we were almost to Woodstock when we hit a brief shower. Had another great time at MD and a big thank you to Freebird and his wife for a great event ! Nancy and I are looking forward to next year already.
  2. Meguiar's PlastX is the stuff to use on our windscreens http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.do?q=4596
  3. Glad you weren't hurt !
  4. Thanks for the replies. I'll check Napa but if they don't have it I'll take Roger up on the offer.
  5. Yamaha passing lights... where in Elyria/Oberlin can I get a 7616 bulb on Saturday ? One of my bulbs went on the way down. Don
  6. Had some rain on the way down but we were all dressed for it. 6 bikes left Grimsby around 10am. Elyria by 5pm... even made it for dinner !
  7. Thanks for the call Carl !
  8. All packed and ready to go.... time to put in the address for the hotel we were planning on stopping at. Choose "Select State/Province"... hit "O" for Ohio... and all it shows is Ontario. When I got the Zumo 660 I updated the maps for Canada/USA... but if I type "Cal" for California... it doesn't find it. WTF.... U.S. isn't loaded???!!!!! Okay... Garmin site... redownload maps.... 1 hour to go. Was hoping to be at the border by now ! If it does work... won't be leaving Kitchener until 8:30. Hmmmm.... 2 1/2 hours to Hamburg NY for where we were thinking of stopping for the night. Would put us there at 11pm + time at the border. Any suggestions? Am I missing something? I'll wait until this update finishes... and at the very least go to Casablanca area and find a hotel there to spend the night.
  9. Change in plans for Nancy and I. To save having to ride all day on Friday in the rain, we are going to leave Kitchener around 5pm today, quick stop at Harbor Freight in Cheektowaga (pick up a multimeter and quick bite), then stop in Hamburg for the night. Ride from Kitchener to Hamburg is shown on Mapquest as being 2 1/2 hours (plus 30 - 45 minutes to eat). Should make it to Hamburg around 8:30-9pm... give or take border crossing at Fort Erie. We don't mind riding in the rain but this also puts us in Elyria early afternoon (Comfort Inn). Anyone interested in riding with us, let me know.
  10. I picked up a digital multi-meter from Canadian Tire ($150) that came with an inductive pickup thinking for that price I'd have no problem doing an rpm reading for tune-ups. What I found was that the reading at idle would jump all over the place in the range of 300rpm to 1500rpm. Repositioning the pick-up didn't fix it and I couldn't get a steady reading. Need a recommendation on a tach/multi-meter that will give a steady reading and is usable for setting the idle on the RSV. I've seen the Harbor Freight on online ($30 - http://www.harborfreight.com/lcd-automotive-multimeter-with-tachometer-kit-95670.html ) but is it any good / usable? What is recommended or used by members ? I like the look of the Baron's 1" tach that mounts on the resevoir but don't want to spend that much money and don't really need a permanent unit. Just want a simple removable (multi-meter or dedicated to just rpm) tach for the times I synch my carbs.
  11. Tried the multi-meter (with inductive pick-up) and found that the rpm reading isn't usable. Idling the meter ranges from 300rpm to 1400rpm and jumps all over the place. Going to return it today so I'm still looking for for a decent tach for doing tune-ups.
  12. Nancy and I will be going. Will be at Carl's for 7:30-7:45am and ready to go.
  13. When I bought mine I followed thecustomer comments and did the following : - repack bearings - rubber tubing (actually a piece of garden hose) on the shackle bolt (rear capture bolt) - replaced lights with LED's - put rubber (another piece of black garden hose) thru the holes where the wiring went thru the frame - replaced the zerk fittings - one was broken out of the box - replaced bolts holding the "car carrier" box to the frame with eye bolts. Will replace these with ones I saw at a trailer store that fold flat. This way I can use helmet nets to secure any load down while trailering - shimmed coupler bolts with a couple washers - DON'T over tighten or it squezes the coupler in and the ball release won't work properly I didn't see how to remove the overload spring so I left it in. Didn't flip the axle either.
  14. Glad she is doing better. Wishing for continued improvement ! Don and Nancy

  16. Whether I'm on the bike or in the car, if I see a biker off the side of the road I stop and make sure they are okay. Twice in the last week I've stopped. One guy was driving to another town to save a few cents on gas and ran out on his way there. Said his wife was coming with a gas can. Looked like a new bike so he probably didn't know how far he could go.
  17. Popular Science too.

  21. That was funny !
  22. Sorry to hear about Brad's mother. Our condolences to the family. Don and Nancy
  23. Just a thought.... left side could be a spot so as not to blind oncoming drivers, right side could be a wider pattern slightly aimed to the right to light up the shoulder. I have 7616 spot beams (brighter than the Silverstar Ultra) in my passing lights. Left side is aimed correctly and right slightly to the right for shoulder.
  24. What can I say.... 2nd Gen ! Took your suggestion on the flag and moved it more to the side of the saddle bag. Thanks ! Don't see the back of my own bike when riding and the 1st Gen's I've passed were moving to slow to see it ! :-p
  25. 29 is the Venture channel. That's why I usually leave it there. If I'm on the highway/Interstate I'll put it on 19 but only if I want to hear whats going on, but 99% of the time its on 29.
