I've had the spacer and light bar for a couple years and no issues. I didn't extend the bumpers on the lower deflectors. -

E3 Front Tire Problem?

Just a suggestion (may or may not account for the wear on one side of the tire more so than the other)... have you checked or tightened your steering head lately? Put it on a lift and turn the bars one way then the other and release part way. If the steering "falls" to one side or the other then you need to tighten your steering head . More specifically it is the clutch basket. Getting an "i-basket" installed from Yamaha often resolves or lessens the issue. Do a search for "clutch whine" or "i basket" and you'll have enough reading to keep you busy for a while. If you take the fairing apart check the connections. They are color code for the stereo system and just make sure they are clean and connected. Di-electric grease is used by many to seal them from moisture. Some of us have added a splitter so that we have a separate aux plug near the mp3 player mount on the handle bar so it is in a more permanent location. Could be the previous owner installed one that has separated or removed. Do a search for "AUX splitter" and you'll find the tech article. -

Just a thought.... being an '06, check when the original owner purchased it. You might get lucky and still have something left of the 5 year warranty. It transfers to the new owner but ends 5 years from original date of purchase. For mp3... as was mentioned, the stereo has to be set to AUX. Check whether you are set to HS (head set) or SP (speaker). Volume is set independently for stereo or CB. The radio controls aren't exactly intuitive so read the owners manual section carefully and have it in hand when you set presets. If you don't have the owners manual, you can download it as well as Service Manual, parts manual from the read only tech section. If you have the cd changer and have a iPod or iPhone, you can get an interface from Yamaha that plugs into the cd changer cable and controls the iPod from the stereo controls. Works great ! Also.... for GPS, the Buddy Rich cable is a great addition and allows you to hear directions thru your head set. I have the Garmin Zumo 660 and have a 16gb memory stick full of music on it. This way I can listen to mp3's and directions at the same time. The Zumo also has bluetooth so I synch it with my Blackberry and can make/receive phone calls thru it and hear/talk thru the helmet. Plus 1 on the backrest. I have the Utopia. Highway bars are good (I have the Kuryakyn offset). Tip on the cruise... after turning it on, hold the "set" button for a second before releasing the throttle so it engages. Last but not least... enjoy the ride ! -

Not expensive for a relay and easy to change. Try that. You might have pinched a wire when you adjusted the lights so double check that first. -
Check your FM antenna connection... and that your antennas are on the right side.

I did a search for removing the cassette on a 2nd Gen and didn't find anywhere that mentions a jumper across a plug to make the stereo work. Best summary is : richiej : Answer to removing Cassette The stereo should still work, but you would still need to run the AUX connector to a new place on the fairing. Most of the face plate on the cassette box is used to hold the spring loaded door, and for the two inner fairing screws. You can probably do without the two screws, and if you can do without the door, you could cut a pretty large hole for accessories, like a glove box without a door. I think that it looks better with the door though, therefore, the slot would have to be pretty small. Also Sylvester : Yes unplug the cassette. All will function as normal if everything else is in good shape. Taking the whole thing out is not a problem. There are threads on this in the tech articles. Many of us have taken this out and installed gauges where the door used to be. Granted. The author of the write up does state : "I am not looking to justify my actions or convert anybody. I am seeking to explain what I have tried and why, so those that have an open mind and some experience to go with it can understand. Frankly, like oil choices, I do not feel the emotion and anger often shown over the issue are merited. It's just not that big a deal." I think this is also the reason you started this thread...not to convert anyone for or against the "dark side" but to present someone's actual experience. Anyone reading this that wants to argue against the "dark side"... remember that what someone wants to run on their bike is their choice. I think this was a good write up by the author to state their experiences.

I agree with you. And that is the thing... a lot of those people that are against the idea have never tried it. For me, I haven't tried it and have no interest in it but for those that do, its their choice. Lot comes down to personal preference whether it is tires (Avon vs Dunlop), accessories, pulling a trailer with a bike... up to the individual to decide what is best for them or what they prefer. Not up to anyone else to comment unless they have an opinion that they can back up with facts if they are against it.

For every pro-"dark side" article there is probably an anti-"dark side" article (was going to say 5 to 1 against but don't have accurate numbers). I'm neither for or against using a car tire on the back. I don't and not likely to try it. But I have no objections to anyone else trying it or doing it unless someone "official" can come out with qualified and proven reasons why not. Opinion doesn't count. I think the link you provided gives a (biased but) accurate account of what it is like to use a car tire on the back. Each to his own.

The following year's model is announced by Yamaha in the Fall. From what I've seen and rememeber in the past is Yamaha will announce the 2013 line-up in September or October of this year. I work for Toyota in Canada where we manufacture the Corolla, Matrix, RAV4 and Lexus RX350 (only plant outside Japan that makes Lexus). A model change is not a big thing any more when you have lines that can produce multiple models. The biggest changes are for conveyance and where deliveries are made. Only if there are major physical changes to a vehicle do assembly lines need to be lengthened or greatly modified. Yes... change does happen (mostly in Weld Shop)... but if you look at the Venture... its mostly assembly work (compaired to building a car from a steel blank). I've looked online to see if I could find the specific plant that assembles the Venture and yearly production numbers. From what I've seen it looks like they use flexible assembly lines where they can build different models on the same line. Changing to FI wouldn't be that difficult in the assembly process... maybe connecting a couple different tubes/breathers and changing a few processes. Yes there would be engineering changes to accomodate fitment... but changing to a different fairing/windscreen or cowling isn't an impossible thing.

+1 on the t-shirt/jeans/boots/helmet/shorty gloves when it is hot and going for a short ride. Longer distance I'll wear my Tour Master jacket. I always wear my Swat boots no matter the conditions and riding thru heavy rain they are waterproof. I like the Tour Master since it has a mesh outer shell with "armour". Comes with a liner for rain and a separate thermal liner which I always carry in a saddle bag. That way if the conditions change I have multiple options and they don't take much space. I also carry chaps in my saddle bag for cooler conditions and of course rain pants. Not going to start a helmet battle but I've always worn a full face helmet. Early in my riding heard of people with shorty helmets who had gone down and hit their chin on the pavement. Full helmet at least gives you protection in that area and hopefully if I go down I won't be eating my food thru a straw afterwards ! Couple years ago I picked up a textile jacket but found in the heat it doesn't breath. Nice when temps drop but no air movement thru the tight material. Think I've got more jackets than I do pairs of shoes ! 2 leather jackets, textile jacket, and Tour Master. Probably not the issue... but while you have the fairing off, try a different headlight bulb. Never know.... could be a simple fix.... but also leaing towards it being a pinched wire (check wires where they go thru the headlight bucket too). -

Price on the Visons web site is now $128. Drift site doesn't show it under products and another vendor search shows that model is discontinued.

Harbor Freight tag along trailer question

For the "Tag-Along" trailer, what size of Bearing Buddies did you get? I see there are two sizes available - 1.78" for 3/4" and 1.98" for 1". -
You won't be able to use that XP cd to upgrade your OS unless the cd you have is the "XP Upgrade" disk. What you'll have to do if you want XP is to boot from the XP cd and go thru the menu and choose to delete the existing partition and then create a new one. Only thing with this is your entire hard drive will be erased so if you have any data on it that you want to keep you'll have to back up your data before you start. Does this answer your question?
