The 13,000 member number does not equate to actual active members. From what I've seen it includes expired members, trial members, etc. A more realistic number of active users is around 1200, with some of those being trial members. So... roughly saying there are 1,000 members @ $12 is $12,000 per year. From that subtract cost of web hosting, licensing the forum software, however much Don might take as payment from his company for managing and moderating it (and he spends a LOT of time monitoring it), Maintenance Day (catering for 150 to 300 people @ probably $15/person - at 300 people costs him $4500... plus the time he and his wife spend organizing it). Don't think Don "pockets" much for his efforts or the grief some poeople give him. On the other side... what do YOU get for your $12 ? Unlimited support to keep you on your bike and riding. Free maintenance if you attend Maintenance Day (with a free meal). Members who will go out of their way to assist you (carb tunes, bike maintenance, emergency repairs). Visiting members have been provided with bikes for touring during their North American visits. Parts Diagrams. Maintenance Manuals. Prayers for the sick. Free parts offers or low cost on hard to find items. Oh... and can't forget the naked chat rooms ! Maybe you asked to see what value there is in this site since you are a trial member. Asking how much "profit" Don takes from membership isn't a reasonable question and not one any of us has asked or been concerned with in the past because : 1) none of our business; 2) the effort Don puts into this site with upgrades and adding features when asked; 3) that Don has created this forum for the Venture rider community; 4) the value each of us gets from our $12/year; 5) the social aspect (group rides) 99% of the members don't care if you ask a question that can be easily found thru the search feature, instead they'll give you the link and/or tell you how to enable yourself. On some sites you get beaten up for asking what they deem to be an stupid question - on here there are no dumb questions Try the site, meet the members (organized rides in your area).... best value for you'll find and only costs you $12 a year. You can't get this much fun for such a low price. (Not a shill for the site.... but a happy member)

Great looking bike ! Is the speedometer in MPH or KPH ?

Sorry to hear about your accident. Heal well and quickly ! Details on what caused you to go down? Good for others to hear how things happened so we can watch out for the same type of situation.

I probably spend 45 minutes washing mine. Occassionally pull the saddle bags and wash back rim. Normal wash and then mist with S100, maybe one hour total. Idea with S100 is that after misting it on you rinse it off immediately. Don't let it dry on the bike. Rinse with high pressure GARDEN hose (NOT pressure washer) and dry it. Makes your next wash quicker and easier. I generally mist everything except wheels, wind screen, and seats. The chrome will look great and resist spotting. Water will sheet off the bike. I'm not a rep for them.... just a satisfied customer !

http://www.s100.com/s100_tcc.htm I've only ever tried the Total Cycle Cleaner. Wash and dry the bike. Mist S100 over (almost) everything. Then spray with garden hose on high pressure until no soapy bubbles from hosing it down. Dry the bike. Ride. I use it about once a month or so. If I ride in the rain and see spots afterwards or start getting water spots when washing the bike, its time to mist it with S100.

Like the others, thinking tires but could also be steering head needs tightening. Simple check on the head is to lift the bike and see if the handlebars will hold in one spot if you let them go. If they move then simple 15 minute process to tighten them a bit. Some do the bounce test but I find the turn slightly and let go and see if it holds a better test. I notice that if I upshift too soon the fairing will seem to "shake" as I put the engine under load. Doesn't pull to one side or the other but the dash will vibrate noticeably. And I know my steering head is right. Not sure how long you've had your Venture but they like to rev high. Shift too soon and you'll get vibration.

Could it be the synthetic oil???

Stayed at a Holiday Inn last night? I'm not a mechanic... mostly just a rider.... but what he said.... sounds good ! -
Congratulations on the new bike !

Periodically I'll wash the bike and use S100. Best thing since sliced bread and flush toilets ! Keeps spotting from happening and makes it easier to wash the next time. To get the spots off you need to wash the bike. Any spots that don't come off, you can try Plexus.

Rear Wheel Spacer - Which Way?
XV1100SE replied to RedRider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
1st time I take something apart I'll often take pictures for each step so I know how it goes back together. I'll use different bags for bolts and parts and label them for where they go. -
Don't always hear the click depending on how much fuel is in the carbs. I find when it is warmer I don't hear the click, maybe because of expansion. I did a test to make sure my pump was okay by turning off the fuel petcock and ran the bike for a minute so that it was draining the carbs. Turned off the bike, then turned the ignition on. Sure enough, could hear the clicking.

I peeled mine off and then used goo gone to remove the glue. Didn't have any problem peeling it but wd-40 will help if it tears.

Just a suggestion.... make sure the bike is cool and key turned off (or disconnect the battery) before you start checking out the fan. Don't do it when it might be hot because you could jiggle something and the next thing you know the fan comes on and you loose a couple fingers !

I keep picturing the dogs with sudden acceration/deceleration !

Over the past two days I've noticed the same thing on my '09 RSV. A drop of oil on the flat part of the side stand. Haven't had a chance to trace it down yet. Planning on looking at it tonight after work. Doesn't happen when the stand is down. Seems to happen while riding and when I put the stand down.... there it is.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep the ideas coming !

I have a few weeks off in combination with the International and am looking for feedback and suggestions. This is a first draft of a route so it is really rough. Basic plan is leave the International on Thursday and stay at a Cousin's in Webster MA for a night or two (Friday or Saturday arrival). Towards the end of the route we'll stay at my brother's in Griffith Ontario. Other than that... route is wide open. Thinking minimum 8 days (plus couple nights in Webster, one or two nights at my brother's). Maximum 14 days (give or take bad weather days). Looking for suggestions on route and things to see. Planning on tenting it so will be looking for camp grounds along the route figuring 500km (300 miles) per day. Bad weather days will stay in a motel for comfort (and shower). Here is a link to the rough route : http://mapq.st/LK3e60

Second that.... let us know when you are in the area so we can hook up for coffee or ride part way with you. We are planning a ride East as well but leaving from the International and headed to Massachussetts then North and back across Canada. Have 3 weeks vacation so we have lots of time to explore.

Wondering that since you have an '07 that it might still be covered under warranty. 5 years from original date of purchase and transfers with sale of bike (but notify Yamaha of change of owner).
