  1. Thinking of meeting in Paris at 9 and leaving there at 9:30am. That puts us in Fort Erie at noon. Stop there for coffee/lunch and cross the border about 1pm. That puts us in Chaffee between 2-2:30pm. As you can see from Mapquest link.... we would be headed cross-country rather than via QEW. Anyone want to meet us in Kitchener/Paris/Fort Erie... let me know.
  2. Sorry... missed adding the U-Hual link - http://www.uhaul.com/Articles/Tips/122/Trailer-User-Instructions Load your trailer with at least 60% of the cargo weight in the front half of the trailer. Do this by loading the heaviest items first (such as appliances, toolboxes, boxes of books, etc.) in the front of the trailer, then load your lighter items near the top and to the rear. The centerline of the trailer box is marked on the inside of the trailer. Pack all items closely and firmly and secure with rope to the tie-downs in the trailer. This will place the proper amount of weight on the hitch (tongue weight). From what I've read the tongue weight should be between 25-40lbs on a bike. The above from U-Haul would depend on where the axle is on the trailer which would affect tongue weight. If anyone fells this is incorrect... definitely post your opinion/experience.
  3. Did a search and found an article from U-Haul that has lots of info. *** comments on how to properly measure tongue weight ***** U-Haul and others recommend that 60% of the weight be in front of the axle of the tow vehicle. 4. We'll be ahead of you so if we run into any construction I'll email you.
  5. After my near miss last week I'm finding I'm fighting the bike a bit. Not leaning into curves/turns the way I was, jumping on the brakes harder than I need to when I see brake lights. Prior I was feeling I could do almost anything on the bike (proven by missing what could have hurt a lot). Easy to get back on a horse after falling off but regaining the confidence takes a while.
  6. Looks like it is just us and Sleepy2 for earlier departure. Working out final details but thinking the following route would be better than QEW. This takes us down to hwy 3. http://mapq.st/Pm4Frk Start in Paris (Tim Horton's on Rest Acres) and stop in Fort Erie before crossing the border. Direct is shown in Mapquest as 3hrs 20 minutes and 212 km. Add time at border and rest stop....
  7. ... plus whatever is left over after you sell the good parts you could probably get something from a wrecker.
  8. What I don't get is.... how many rounds did the old guy fire... and it didn't look like he hit anything. I remember back in the '70's when a lot of hijackings were going on. Joke at the time was that they should arm all the passengers and no one would hijack the flight.
  9. I don't recall having to use a spacer on my '09 RSV. Used just what was shipped and fit was perfect.
  10. Personal opinion only. To each his/her own.
  11. ... might be those things but in my opinion... it is one ugly bike ! I don't like the lines.
  12. And that is the point.... "within reason". Some trunk racks don't have the support bracing, just the pegs on the trunk lid. 10-15lbs doesn't sound like much but constant pressure on 4 points plus bumps.... will eventually crack or punch a hole thru the trunk lid. For the OP... trunk rack is usable but keep the weight low to prevent having to replace the trunk lid. Make sure you have bracing between the legs of the rack. Weight high will affect bike handling.
  13. Me... a "do gooder" ?
  14. bump
  15. That is a nice looking bag. Keep in mind though.... recommended maximum weight on the trunk rack is 10lbs (or 20lbs).
  16. Our combination is very close to yours. I test rode the HD and Wing. Didn't like the shake rattle 'n roll of the HD. Seating position on the Wing didn't feel right. I came from a Virago 1100 though so seating of the RSV is similar other than floorboards and heel/toe shifter (which I wouldn't change). For comfort you can go hundreds of miles per day on the Venture and not get a sore but. For your wife, you won't find a more comfortable seat, plus add Carbon One's arm rests, move the trunk back and inch. Next thing you know the intercom will go silent and you'll have to wake her up to see if she is still back there ! Even without moving the seat compared to the HD there is more room on the Venture. Driver back rest is recommended for long rides. I have the Utopia but it isn't the only option. Also comes with a pouch for odds and ends.
  17. Air pressure front/rear is personal preference and type of riding. I run my rear shock at 30psi and front at 3psi. Best for you to try various pressures yourself and see what feels right to you.
  18. Do a search on testing battery (using meter) and you'll see what the different outputs should be. Also check battery connection. Fuse - possible - located in lower fairings and left side under seat (I believe)
  19. 10am would be the latest I'd want to leave from KW. Earlier would be better for those of us that don't have Nexus cards for crossing the border. Keep the discussions going !
  20. We are flexible on time. Just wanted to get the discussions going so can negotiate a time. I'd like to arrive in Chaffee before 3 so we can stake out our camp site and get set up. That way we have a bit of time before the group departs Pioneer at 5:30 for the mixer. Based on that.... l wouldn't want to start the venture (pun intended) from Kitchener after 10am... so add 2 hours to the various points. How does that work for everyone?
  21. I was thinking this was related to the International and was looking in July. Sorry.... International version of the ride, we are in. AUGUST 25th.... will pass.
  22. Never would have thought of that !
  23. Don't see it listed.
  24. Happy birthday !
