What kind of pictures would you like? This is free hand but gives you an idea....
-
Jets? How about Leafs? They are going all the way this year.... to the cellar again !
-
Don't want to break the camera if I get it ! The water won't damage it... but the subject matter???? DEFINITELY !
-
Lets just say the Leica is about $27,600 out of my price range... and $400 would be pushing it !
-
Thanks for the comments so far. I do want waterproof since the jackets we use are the Tourmaster which doesn't have waterproof exterior pockets. The Utopia back rest I have has a pocket but I wouldn't call it waterproof. LOL - for use on the bike Nancy would have it strapped to her wrist.... but she is prone to dropping things so shock proof is a plus ! Main concern on a camera is waterproof, fast shutter speed, and shock proof.

I like what the Western NY group did with getting themselves shirts and was wondering if there would be interest from the Canadian members (with approval from Freebird pending). This way those from the Great White North would stand out at events. What I'm thinking is... 100% pre-shrunk white cotton shirts with a red maple leaf on the side (9" tall/9" wide), VR.org crest on the back, and up to 3 lines of text embroidered on the front (name, screen name, and city/province). I spoke with a screen printer today to get an idea of cost and they quoted $14.35 per shirt based on a quantity of 50. Price would reduce slightly with higher quantity. This would be strictly at cost of shirt plus shipping and $2 per shirt for use of the crest. For us... I'd be looking at getting two shirts for both Nancy and I. Let me know if you are interested and quantity you would be interested in. Once I get approval from Don and hopefully a soft copy of the crest (in either jpg or eps format), I'll post more info and start taking orders/payment.

Looking at getting a camera that Nancy can use while we are riding so she can take pictures while we are rolling. Hoping to get recommendations. We went to a camera store and the one they are recommending is the Canon Powershot D20 12.1mp 5x optical zoom with 28mm wide angle lens, digital zoon 4x 3" lcd waterproof (to 33 feet), shockproof (up to 5', temperature resistant (14 to 104F) gps tracker 1080P for video shutter speed 1-1/1600sec auto sensitivity - ISO100 to 3200 (optimal ISO auto set) built in flash continuous shooting - 1.9 shots/sec This would be for still shots, small percentage video. Want something waterproof (obviously) that has a fast shutter. Suggestions?

I use the Mobil 1 oil. Cost you $70 for an oil change but so far I have no sounds coming from my '09.

Now that was funny !

So... best option is a speed-o-healer.

Has anyone with a 2nd Gen approached Yamaha about the speedometer being off ? Was wondering what Yamaha would say if someone made a warranty claim for it.
-
2013 - 30th anniversary of the Venture. Good time to introduce a 3rd Gen. Sales have increased over the last couple years in motorcycles, but not where they were pre-recession. Plus... the market increases have been in Asia/India. North American and European sales are still so-so. Look at unemployment numbers in the States and ask workers who went from manufacturing jobs to "service" industry jobs what they think of the economy and you'll get an answer about how things are going. Keep in mind... production of the cassette player has ended. Yamaha probably has enough for 2012 (Japanese Just-In-Time manufacturing remember). They either stop producing the RSV or do a major model change.

I like the idea of Wisconsin. For dates... has anyone considered timing it for AirVenture that takes place in Oshkosh towards the end of July? http://www.airventure.org/index.html Think the name fits... plus the air show is supposed to be one of the best and runs for several days... just like the International. Anyone that wanted to attend could be part of a daily group ride there, possibly with group discount on tickets.

I'll take responsibility for leaving the hat in the shower. At least I remembered to put on my pants before walking out ! No worries about the hat. Just a standard Star cap that I can replace.

A very successfull event put on by you and your crew. Nancy and I enjoyed it immensely !

We made it home a couple hours ago. For our journey... had hoped to leave Chaffee early enough on Wed night and head south to get below the forecasted track of storms. Didn't leave until 9:30pm so didn't make it as far South as we had hoped. Spent Wed night in Salamanca. Thursday morning woke up to drizzle. Took our time getting ready, nice breakfast in the Holiday Inn. Destination was for Clarion PA and to make time/distance take 80 West into Ohio. Rode thru Allegheny National Forest. Stopped in Leeper PA for a coffee. Skies were cloudy when we parked and Nancy went in to the restaurant (corner of 66 and 36 - friendly staff, decent food). By the time Nancy came out, sirens started whaling. Locals driving by stopped and warned us that there were tornado warnings from Clarion to Leeper. Decided Leeper was as good as anyplace to have lunch. The hinge screws on my trunk were loose (make sure you check yours) so I spent spent a few minutes tighening them. The sky was a medium gray when I started and within the few minutes I spent tightening the screws (with siren still going) the sky turned dark and the wind went from nothing to a fierce howling. Made a bee-line to the restuarant door. Branches were flying past the windows, a large tree across the street came down, rain in buckets ! We spent about 2 hours in the restuarant talking with the locals about bikes, families. Met some nice people. Was a light rain when we decided to venture on. Sky still dark to the South but lighter to the West. Set the gps for Greenville PA which had us criss crossing across Amish country, up and down what appeared to be one lane roads, covered in downed branches. Somewhere around Shippenville we saw a sign for hwy 80 and headed that way. Missed one on ramp to 80 at Emlenton and continued on what turned out to be a great road along a river. Got on 80 at Barkeyville and made it to Mercer before we saw heavy lightning ahead. Got off at that point and stayed at the Comfort Inn there. Long story short... woke up Friday morning and checked routes home. Rain to the West, clear sailing to Buffalo. Over 700 miles home via Detroit, 400 via Buffalo. Easy choice. All in all... International was great (Western NY crew set a high bar for future Internationals), didn't ride thru heavy rain, found some great roads, met a lot of locals on our way home. As Mastercard says... "priceless" ! I still have a couple weeks of my vacation ahead of us so will be headed towards Ottawa next week... and possibly points beyond !

We are in Mercer PA with plans to make our way across Ohio tomorrow, headed to Detroit to cross into Canada.

We'll be at the Tim Horton's in Paris on Rest Acres Rd at 9. Plan is to leave at 9:30. We'll stop at the Tim Horton's at 200 Garrison (per map) in Fort Erie at noon. Some time between 12:30 and 1pm we'll head out once everyone is together. Evan - that work for you ?
-
Sorry Carl... the jack-knife position test was so you know you can make a u-turn when necessary.
-
Sorry... not stopping in Dunnville. Plan is Kitchener to Paris (to meet Sleepy2) then straight thru to Fort Erie. From there, straight shot to Chaffee. I had added "coffee shop" to Mapquest search so I could get the right location for Paris and Fort Erie... so it shows all of them on the route.

Yes... this is an updated map. More scenic and only takes 10 minutes longer.
