To explain this... the "new" sixth gear would basically be what we have for the current 5th. Gears 1-4 would be changed in ratio's and become 5 gears. If the new 5th were somewhere between the current 4th and 5th would be okay with me as I find when 5th is too high (engine lugging), 4th sounds like it is reving a bit high. A new 5th would be good when trailering in this case.

Think trying the headsets on another Venture would be a good idea. There are connections under the passenger seat (search threads). If it does have mic mutes a fuse issue could be the issue.

What model J&M headsets?
-
Okay... one thing that would be nice in a new model (suggested by Nancy) - a reverse gear ! That would be nice for those times you park the wrong way and have to try to back up a hill or rise in a parking lot !

Really... what needs to be changed ? I like the fork mounted fairing. I like the styling. ABS - absolutely necessary? Not if you know how to work the brakes in an emergency. Nice yes, but not a show stopper Fuel Injection - maybe to meet new emission standard and run better when cold. Carbs are fine. Cold running - so warm the bike up first ! Cassette - its hidden behind a little door. I never open mine except when I'm drying the bike to make sure there is no water behind it. Other than that... glue it shut or replace it with a tray to hold things. Some newbies don't even realize the door opens let alone that there is a cassette player there ! Updated engine (VMax?) - better be liquid cooled and 4 cylinder ! Necessary? Probably not when the existing engines are bullet proof (maybe beef up the clutch and eliminate the small percentage of units that whine) Still lots of accessories out there (OEM and 3rd party) to personalize your ride. As for some OEM accessories not being available... I wouldn't be surprised if there is no Venture for 2013. Let accessory inventory reduce, sell inventory of bikes. 2014... possibly an update. But how to change a good thing?

He said the mics don't work... sounds like he IS getting sound thru the speakers in the helmet. Probably one of the connections inside the fairing is loose. If you read in the 2nd Gen tech section about splitting the fairing (or do a search) you'll see how to do it. The connections are on the right side of the headlight (if you are in front of the bike looking at the headlight they are on your left side as you are facing the bike). Look for large connectors and unplug/plug them back in. Some people apply dielectric grease to the sockets (but do NOT get grease on the contacts!).

The custom part is the vr.org emblem and requires a special screen. For the maple leaf... stock sizes so nothing extra required.

At this point I think we have enough for the minimum 50. I'll talk to the screen printer about doing two versions (sleeve and on side) and will take a couple t-shirts to the post office tomorrow to find out how much it would cost to ship to various places. Once I get this info I'll update the thread with ordering info. Prefer payment up front and can be done via email money transfer from your bank to me. Paypal can also be an option.

We'll stick with the white shirts and leave the hot pink for another region to choose. Think you'd look amazing in pink though Bob.

Don't think tempers are rising on this. I think we all agree that we all need personal freedom to choose what we think is best for each of us. I wear a helmet but if someone else chooses not to that is their choice. My comment on leathers was directed at myself. I wear a helmet but don't wear leathers when its hot. Leathers provide more protection than denim but I still choose not to wear leathers unless it is cold out. Double standard on my part. Should government enforce leathers ? I hope not ! Should States/Provinces enforce helmet use? If I say yes then I am being a hypacrite when I say no to leathers considering both provide protection. From what I've seen being in States where helmet use is not mandatory, the majority of riders had helmets. Just saying but don't have "official" stats on it.

I agree that to a certain extent individuals should have their freedom to choose how they want to live... but.... Seat belts in cars - occupants thrown from cars was one of the reasons mandatory seat belts was started, as well as the fact that in a crash it helps to restrain occupants from being thrown thru the windshield or bounced around inside the car and becoming injured. Air bags prevent the driver from being thrown against the steering wheel for example. At one time some "expert" suggested seat belts on bikes.... obviously not a rider. Airbags on bikes sound like a weird idea but if they save a life, why not? Helmets - doesn't take much to sustain a head injury and they do reduce the impact to the head (spread out the impact across a broader area to dissipate the force). Bicyclists were shown to experience fewer head injuries due to helmets and they don't go nearly as fast as motorcyclists. Riding (even in a parking lot) doesn't feel right without a helmet to me. When I've been in States where helmets were optional I still wear one. Leathers - I think it is stupid of people I see wearing shorts or sandals on a bike but I'll ride in a t-shirt and jeans when it is hot. Tests show that jeans will only last about 6' in a slide at 60mph. Am I protected by jeans ? NOT. There has been talk over the years about making leathers mandatory biker equipment (proper motorcycle leather will last 80' in a 60mph slide) but it has never gone forward. Should leathers be mandatory? Could use the same argument for mandatory leathers as they do for helmets. I think more of us on this site would argue against mandatory leathers than we do for mandatory helmets but the same safety factor applies. Do leathers provide 100% prevent road rash - no - but road rash isn't a killer. Helmets cannot provide 100% protection but they do reduce the likely hood of brain injury or death.

Sorry if I opened up a can of worms. I like what the WNY group did with having their own shirts. There are a number of us in S.W. Ontario but in order to get enough for an order of 50 shirts (for cost savings) opened it up to Canadian members, with the idea that their home base would be shown under their names.

Canadian members - vote on location of maple leaf
XV1100SE replied to XV1100SE's topic in Watering Hole
So far this is running neck and neck ... I don't think it would make much difference to the screen printer (for cost) if we were to offer both options. The main thing is the crest since that would be a "custom" design. The maple leaf would be a stock screen I'm sure. The voting goes for a few more days but if it stays close.... I'll see if cost will be the same. As for shipping... can't see sending a few shirts in a shipping envelope would cost much. Shirts don't weigh much. -
Forget the price of gas... who cares ! What about the cost of whiskey !!!!!!!!

Price of gas here this morning is $1.28/L... or $4.85/U.S. gal. Consider yourself lucky ! In other words... quite your b!tch'n ! A lot of our goods are more expensive. Up until this year the RSV was $2500 more up here, electronics are more expensive (eg camera I'm looking at is $339 here and $279 there). Best thing we have over the U.S. is universal health care.

How many would you be interested in?

Glad you are okay !

For those wanna be Canadians... I'm sure we can accomodate them with an honourary status on citizenship. Just don't try using it instead of a passport at the border !

Please take the poll so we can get agreement on best option. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=72211

Remember that it is a wet clutch. Try a different oil first before making the trip to the U.S. I use the Mobil 1 but Rotella is another option. Even Yama Lube.

Two others in the same price range as rated by PC Mag... Olympus Tough TG-1 and Nikon Coolpix AW100 From what I've read... still leaning towards the Canon D20. Canadian price (on sale at Henry's) - $339 U.S. price (on sale at Best Buy) - $279

Canadian members - vote on location of maple leaf
XV1100SE replied to XV1100SE's topic in Watering Hole
I've set up the poll so you can choose both options if you don't care which location it should be in. Embroidered screen name, real name, and location (city prov) will be centred under each other on the left breast. -
Canadian VR shirts - location of maple leaf Options for location of maple leaf

With crest on the back and name on the front... doesn't give a lot of space to position the maple leaf. Trying to make it as large as possible but needs to fit small to xl size shirts. Another option (open to suggestions and input/votes)... how about the maple leaf on the sleeve? Actually... that would look pretty good too
