  1. Basic maintenance... Check coolant (test). Should be replaced every 3 years Clutch and brake fluids - check colour - if "off", change Rear wheel gear oil Check date codes on tires. Over 7 years you should consider changing them even if no wear I don't have the break pad part number handy but do a search on here for break pads (search box towards the top of the screen on the right) And congratulations on the bike !
  2. I had one bag sticking and what I did was to push in on the side of the bag to flex it, move the lid around a bit by pushing and pulling on it...and got it free without damaging anything. Look at the other side to get an idea of how the mechanism works, then try what worked for me. Post your results
  3. Inside the fairing.
  4. My condolences to you and your family. As others have said I can't imagine the level of loss you feel. I am truly sorry for your loss.
  5. Your issue is probably related to the way the installation of the passing lights were done. The documentation from Yamaha for the passing lights will give you the "key" to what is going on. From the read only tech section, look at this link. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?43898-Passing-Lamp-Installation The Yamaha installation instructions are : https://www.venturerider.org/passinglamps/passinglamps.pdf From this you'll see that the passing lights can be wired in to either be on all the time, with high beam, or with low beam. You'll see that connected to the low beam the passing light ties into the green wire. If you've lost connectivity on the green wire, then it would explain why passing lights and low beam are not working. Most of us have hooked up the passing lights using a relay. See this link for the diagram. It removes a lot of power going thru the ignition switch. The switch shown in the diagram is the push button switch on the back of the fairing beside the accessory outlet. This button switch is also prone to failure. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?525-Standard-Passing-Light-Relay-Wiring Based on your description and symptoms, your green wire is cut somewhere. When they spliced in the passing light to the green wire they probably damaged it and the wire connection has broken.
  6. Watching the storm on the news. Stay safe !
  7. The accelerating at highway speeds and cutting out is what mine was doing when my pump failed. Think you have the right idea on that. Some people have cleaned or replaced the points on the pump. If you do a search you'll probably find info on it or a pump that you can use that would be compatible but cheaper than the Yamaha one.
  8. Ethanol free gas - https://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=ON Looks like 91 is the common octane that is ethanol free on the list.
  9. The specs call for lower octane. Try a tank of 87 (or 89) octane and see if that makes a difference.
  10. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet but...Seafoam might help with cleaning the carbs, and do a carb sync. Have you tried premium fuel? These bikes use regular gas (87 octane - or is it 89....whatever the lower one is). Put half a can of Seafoam Motor Treatement in the fuel tank and top it up with premium then give it a really good run. I'd start with these three first (premium, Seafoam, carb sync) before tearing into it. And welcome to the forum from Ontario !
  11. To set the torque on the steering head there is a "special" tool (a spanner). Make sure you look into this before attempting it. A member here sold them a few years ago, not sure if he still has any available. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?134092-Steering-Head-Torque-Values&highlight=steering+head+torque https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?124884-While-adjusting-steering-head-bearings&highlight=steering+head+torque https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?107701-Adjusting-2nd-Gen-head-bearing-nut-while-torn-down&highlight=steering+head+torque (in this one you can see the spanner. Dingy used to make/sell them but don't know what happened to him). The spanner should be available online to purchase or maybe someone in your area has one.
  12. When you "tested" the steering head tightness, which test did you do? The "bounce test"? I don't like this test simply because how hard or light I push it over might be different from someone else doing it, or misinterpret the "bounce" back. My preference on checking the steering head (2nd Gen) is to lift the bike (level), turn the handlebars/forks/tires to a 45 degree angle to the left, hold it, and let go. If it moves then the steering head needs to be tightened. Don't turn to the right because cables/wires will impact the test. You may have your steering head too loose. Maybe too tight or your bearings are damaged. You have an '07....how many miles? High mileage or over tightening them you may have damaged bearings. Try loosening the steering head then test. Get it to the point where it will move on it's own then tighten a little bit, test again. If the steering moves, tighten a little more. If it doesn't move, tighten the steering head nut and (carefully) take it for a test drive. The other test you might want to do is with the bike in the air, see if you can pull/push the forks to see if they move.
  13. https://www.bluebooktrader.com Canadian trade in values - low $7300, high $8500 Canadian retail values - low $9,000, high $10,000 If it is in great condition...go for $10,000.
  14. Autotrader 2013 Venture S - stock bike - no extras, in Scarborough, 4300km $11,500 Brantford Motorcycles had a 2009 Venture S for $9,000 with a few extras (sold) Price listed on what your buddy is looking for is in the ballpark. Try $10,000-10,500. If it has "extras" it is a reasonable deal at the price you listed.
  15. The cycle trader link went to U.S. bikes so the price in Cdn $ is actually comparable. What extras are on it? Light bar/passing lights? Trunk wing? Saddle bag rails? The more on it the better the deal. Add-ons could be difficult to source so keep that in mind. I think you can probably haggle it down a little bit based on end of season but probably not by much. Price is pretty good in my opinion. Everyone would always prefer to pay less. For a 6 year old bike, it is half of what it sold for new. Mileage of 89,000 km converts to 55,000 miles. Just under 15,000km/9,000miles per season. Shows it has been ridden which is good. And the owner having previously owned Ventures if they did their own maintenance more than likely they knew what they were doing.
  16. Good thing you didn't suggest the other way to open the lid of a saddlebag....which is to drill. Always start with the simple things. Why do you think when you call support they ask "is it plugged in?", "have you rebooted?". Always the simple to start.
  17. This is in the read only section. Great place to start when needing to do any repairs or maintenance.
  18. Carl has some "magic" stuff that you can rebuild or repair the post inside the cowl. Just make sure that you keep any plastic bits that fall out. Not uncommon for this to happen and is repairable. ABS glue will work for a while but when it becomes brittle it lets go. The stuff Carl has basically is plastic and fixes it permanently.
  19. I wouldn't recommend the "posi-tap" connections. I solder and/or crimp on connectors.
  20. I used two load balancers. I didn't modify at all. See the tech article I wrote - https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?77681-Custom-Dynamics The link to the load balancer I used may have changed - https://www.customdynamics.com/universal-7-5-ohm-metric-turn-signal-load-equalizer?cat=59
  21. I did the run/turn/brake lights and had to add two resistors, one on each side to fix the fast flashing.
  22. Riding or caging it?
  23. Thomas just posted on Facebook that Bob passed away today. He will be missed. A great guy. My condolences to Becky and the family.
  24. Trailering your bike? When did you trade the Spyder for a Harley ?
