Pack up the wagon, saddle the pony and go West.

You get used to it. We went from Kitchener to Hamilton on the weekend. Mapquest puts it at 60km (37 miles). On the Venture it turns out to be 175km (108 miles). You end up finding the long way to get places !

If you are only 50 (I say "only" because I've got 3 years on you)... hopefully you have a long life ahead of you. If your hips are so bad that you are limited in what you can do now, imagine in 10 years, 20 years. My vote is for you to get the hip surgery. At least that way you'll be able to get around and enjoy life. If you have other parts that need replacement... go for it now while you can. You'll heal faster than if you wait until you are in your 60's. As for bikes... wait until after your surgery and decide then what you can handle. If the current bike feels like it is too much, then you could trike the '07 (easily expect 200,000 miles from it), get a Spyder or a smaller bike (650, 1100...).

This is a good point. If the tire has to be taken off to be patched... is it worth risking your life for a few dollars more to replace it? In a car you have 3 other tires so if 25% of your tires goes down (1 out of 4) you have a greater safety factor than on a bike (50% - 1 out of 2). Yes, I've driven cars with a plugged tire and never had an issue. Plugs should be considered temporary to get you home or to the nearest shop to replace the tire. From recent posts, plugs haven't been working too well. Is it the type of plugs or just plugs in general? Do you want to take the chance?

Bike seems Unstable
XV1100SE replied to Old Texan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
With zero air in the shocks... I have to lean towards it being the tires as well. You didn't say what mileage you have on the bike. Air pressure makes a big difference. I was 1 1/2 lbs light on the front (was at 34 1/2 instead of 36psi) and the bike felt like it was floating thru turns. Corrected pressure and now it feels "nimble". Make absolutely sure there is no air in the (front) shocks before playing around with air in them. The bike should run stable with no air. As a rule of thumb, I put 10% of total rider/passenger in the rear shock (I'm 200lbs so I put 20psi in the rear shock). Also, get a zero loss pump to put air in the shocks. D404's are one of the OEM tires so the recommended pressure is attached. -
The Mayor of Toronto has been photographed several times talking on his cell phone or reading papers while driving in the city and on the highway. He says he is "too busy" not to do this and refuses to hire a driver. You'd would think a public figure who has been caught red handed several times would have learned by now.

I'd go somewhere else for a second opinion or get together with another member. Do you have a carbon_one lift adapter? Easy to lift the front end and check if the steering head is tight or loose. Could also be bearings are worn out in the steering head if its been ridden loose for a while.

Glad you are okay !

I think the original report from the Italian court was correct. Steering column broke. Like the additions made to the Nat Geo video says... the steering column was corroded and just before the crash there was lateral movement that wasn't seen in prior laps or races. His car bottoming out didn't cause aero issues as suggested by Nat Geo and Williams. He didn't turn the wheels into the slide because any input on the steering wheel didn't get to the wheels. That weekend of racing (Senna and Ratzinburger deaths) forced the FIA/F1 to act on safety issues. One of the reasons we have the cars and tracks we have today. The drivers have say in safety issues. Cars of that era (and previously) put the drivers at risk of losing their lives. Drivers willing to put it on the line were either amazing or.... No drivers aids showed off the driver talent and not those of the aero engineers. Needs to be more driver and less car influencing the outcome of races.

I bought liners from them a couple years ago. Good quality bags, quick shipping/delivery. Sorry to hear they've gone under and about your situation. Since you paid by paypal.... do you have any recourse? Was it put on a credit card via paypal?

The crash... some details... Not sure how many F1 fans are here... my son sent me a clip on Ayrton Senna that was done on "Top Gear" a few years ago. I've seen the Senna movie and watched races when Senna was still with us. For those that haven't seen the Senna movie... watch it ! If you aren't familiar with Senna... watch the "Top Gear" clip. Amazing racer ![ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oLSYSJO5Ik&feature=share]Top Gear on Ayrton Senna (Full Segment) - YouTube[/ame] Cars of the 80's... turbo charged 1200+hp, no drivers aids, manual shifting, little aerodynamic downforce, mostly mechanical grip. Hamilton's comments are interesting. Drivers made more of a difference then. Now... best aero package and less of the driver. Summer break for F1 racing... 11 days to the next "fix".

2nd Gen - front 36psi. Try 40psi in the rear. There is a label inside the trunk lid that tells what the tire pressure should be. For front I run 3psi, rear shock at 10% of rider/passenger load. Could be the steering head is a bit loose too. See links in previous posts.

Glad it went well !
