Has anyone tried any of these pads ? http://www.sargentcycle.com/heatedkits.htm http://www.heatdemons.com/Motorcycle-Heated-Seats_c_101.html With low overnight temperatures would be nice to have a heated seat !

The 2013 Victory CCT is $4,000 more than a brand new RSV (in Canada). That buys a lot of gas ! Take a CCT for a ride and see what YOU think. No matter what anyone else says, you have to like it. Has to be comfortable for you in ride, handling, and fit. Personally, I don't like the looks of the CCT. The style doesn't do anything for me. Shape of the fairings, saddle bags, and trunk. Just doesn't work for me. Front turn signals? Can you even put passing lights on it? Belt drive ???

Maybe they look at it the way Apple does with the iPhone. Not that much change from an iPhone 4 to the 5. Few minor things (bigger screen, more mic's)... but really... how much more can they add to a smart phone ? RSV works as is.

During the day on Tuesday the price of gas was $1.30/liter ($4.921 / U.S. gallon). Overnight it bumped up to 1.378/liter ($5.216 / U.S. gallon). That is $0.295 increase over night. Today it is $1.292/liter ($4.89 / U.S. gallon). Funny.... all the stations and oil companies raise and lower gas prices at the same time. Collusion or coincidence? Must be coincidence.

Posted this exchange in the other thread on the 2013 model but since there are two threads on it, I'll post it here too. I emailed Yamaha Canada... Yamaha has to be kidding... the 2013 RS Venture is almost identical to the 1999 RS Venture. Only major thing changed over the years has been the colours. I know there have been some minor changes (like the seat).... but come on. No fuel injection? No ABS? Limited guages? CASSETTE DECK ?????? (can't even buy cassettes anymore !) As a member of ventureriders.org (with over 12,000 members International)... Yamaha has missed the opportunity for upgrading a great touring bike. Keep the v4 (or upgrade the 1300 to the 1700cc v4), add fuel injection, ABS brakes, replace the cassette deck with guages (tach, oil pressure, engine temperature). Keep the style of bike (I personally like the fork mounted fairing). Bring the bike up to date !!! When will Yamaha finally update the Venture? I have competitor owners (Harley, Honda, etc) admiring my bike.... until I tell them about the carburators and cassette. Great looking bike.... but so out dated !! Their response... Hello! At this time we only have confirmation of the versions being imported into Canada on our website (we are ALWAYS looking to expand and grow our versions and I will share your thoughts with our factory liaison). It is VERY expensive to redevelop these models to meet Canadian specifications and government regulations - and we are a very small market compared to Europe and other countries. I suspect, as our laws and regulations conform worldwide pertaining to lighting, emissions and such ......... and the market grows again in North America ....... we will see the changes and upgrades you are seeking. Our factory is very tight-lipped about introducing new and redesigned models into Canada but the moment we hear ....... we post it! So keep watching our website and have a great day. Regards, Scott My response : I appreciate your response. Considering that the Venture has been basically unchanged since 1999 where other manufacturers have updated their offering in the tour bike class (Harley, Kawasaki, Honda), the Venture has stagnated. 2013 would have been the 30th anniversary of the first Venture. Would have been an ideal time for Yamaha to update the model as an anniversary edition. Their response : I agree. Our designer and engineers have been rapidly making units for enormous emerging markets and that has basically allowed us to continue with some models that are less profitable. I really think the market is going to change in North America and we will see big advancements. Have a great weekend. Scott For those that want to express their opinions to Yamaha... can't hurt to email them ! MAYBE the 2014 will be the big update ! We'll have to wait and see !

Following the previous response from Yamaha Canada I sent them : I appreciate your response. Our designer and engineers have been rapidly making units for enormous emerging markets and that has basically allowed us to continue with some models that are less profitable. Was just using Yamaha's figures as a baseline. I don't know what the V-Max with the 1300 V4 used to get for mileage in comparison with the de-tuned version in the RSV. 32mpg IMPERIAL vs 51mpg IMPERIAL (I know 51mpg is unrealistic - I've gotten as high as 48mpg)... but since the posted mpg is derived in the same tests, it gives a fair comparison. Unless they post what a de-tuned 1700 V4 will get we'll never know. Does anyone have epa comparison numbers comparing a V-Max and Venture with the same (but tuned) differently motor?
-
VMax - Fuel Consumption 32mpg(Imp) wet weight 684lbs Venture - Fuel Consumption 51mpg(Imp) wet weight 867lbs General talk is for Yamaha to use the Vmax motor. If they use the 1700cc VMax motor and stay with the same size tank as on the Venture (5 Imp gal)... using current Yamaha mileage ratings : VMax 5 imp gal x 32 imp mpg = 160 miles Venture 5 imp gal x 51 imp mpg = 255 miles For a touring bike... I'd prefer to be able to go further on a tank without having to stop.

I emailed Yamaha just to get a response but I have to agree with you. ABS - I don't even like it in cars (or traction control - I turn it off in my Mustang GT when the roads are wet or slippery because I want to be the one in control). I know that it pulses the brakes on/off so you can steer when braking, but I'd prefer to control it Fuel Injection - carbs vs FI... engine runs fine the way it is. Easy to maintain Cassette deck - remove it but would prefer storage over gauges. If they put guages in that area they would probably redesign the dash and I like it the way it is GPS - same as cassette deck. Where do they put it? I don't have a problem with it being a Garmin Zumo (I have a 660. Would have liked the 665 but weather doesn't work in Canada and don't have a need for satelite radio - I play mp3's) Frame mounted fairing - I like the fork mounted fairing. I understand how wind can affect steering with fork mounted fairing but I like the headlight pointing in the direction I'm going, used to this style of fairing/windshield Beefier rear shock - 5 year warranty... after that, even shocks on cars go after several years and not covered by the manufacturer Motor - going to a 1700cc engine will just reduce gas mileage

How did you make out?

Maybe its the increase in ethanol content ? LOL

Yamaha Motors CEO states on their page : http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/global/ir/topmessage/ Engineering, manufacturing and marketing products is about creating value to offer the customers. Thus, the starting point for it all must come from the customers (the market). Our thoughts and actions, the way we approach the customers (market) are what create that value. This year, we will return to that basic principle. We will continually question whether or not our priorities, vocabulary, or the work done is directed inward instead of outward. Looking to the outside with a genuine priority on the customer (market), we will work to bring about business development that is focused and effective.

No price change from 2012 to 2013 in Canada. Still $19,999. In Canada though, neither last years or this years includes the i-Simple iPod adapter - $239.

There's and interesting idea.... how many coats of paint are there on the new model? Is the "dry weight" increasing every year ?
-
You are right.... that looks nice ! But.... comparing with the RSV... I know the V-Star 1300 isn't in the same league as the Venture... has some nice features (still no tach). I put the text in red for the differences in spec. Too bad it is belt drive. No air assist shocks. And NO CASSETTE !!!

Wanted: passenger armrest from Ultimate Seat
XV1100SE replied to LSatifka's topic in Bike Accessories
Highly recommend Carbon One's arm rests ! -
The only time I hook up a battery tender to my bike is during the winter. Every couple weeks I'll connect it overnight... but for no longer than one night. If the battery is draining between running, sounds like you have a "leak". Disconnect accessories (like iPod adapter, cd player) and see if that helps. After that, you can do other checks to see if there is a substantial draw on the battery to see if something else is still "on". If the battery is at the point where even on the tender it won't charge then something else is going on. Are you putting in good quality batteries? DEKA will be my replacement when my oem goes out.
