  1. Next two Friday the 13th's are September and December next year.
  2. Cold is a state of mind. I rode to work this morning (2C 36F) and it felt great ! Just have to dress for it. Supposed to be sunny and 18C (68F) on the way home. Rain the next two days and Thursday just like today - if you can believe the weather forecast 3 days out. As for warm.. for 2 months of the year. We get a little longer than that ! Usually can't start building the igloo we live in until end of December and then it lasts until March sometime.
  3. Might want to start doing your own service with experience like that.
  4. No one can say they didn't see you !
  5. Know what Vr.org needs? An official club house ! Maybe we should choose Freebird's place as the official location? As for who you ride with and what you wear.... if you join a group that insists you wear something that shows you are a member and says "thou shalt not wear anything else"... and you disagree with this.... walk away from that group. No point arguing about it, even if the "President" of the local is a dick... enough people quit and someone somewhere will change things. I prefer the casual "membership" we have here. Wear what you want, discuss (almost) anything you want (with the exception of a couple dangerous topics that always lead to trouble). Think the only rule our "local" group has is that when MarCarl leads... expect u-turns and gravel roads...and Carl parking his bike on its side.
  6. Seafoam on sale at Canadian tire for $10 a can this week. Down from $12 and change.
  7. Yeah... weather as fall sets in sucks. Cold (2C, 36F) and wet to start the day and either rains all day or warm at the end of the work day (16C, mid 60's F) but cools down quickly. Too cold/wet to ride to work, too short a time to ride after work. As for Texas... might be nice during the year but 100+ F in July and August? Gotta be somewhere better ! Florida.... hurricanes. Thinking New Mexico or Arizona, Southern Cal ?
  8. Nice home on wheels ! Like Carl said... where is the garage for the bike and beer cart ?
  9. Hope the surgery went well and a speedy recovery. Don and Nancy
  10. Glad you like 'em ! Was planning on doing a couple more meet n greets but lately the weather hasn't been cooperative. Thanks for posting that you received them. Would be nice to see some members posing with their new shirts on !
  11. Front pads tend to do that. I've had the same issue but still have lots of pad left. On the rear... I got about 28,000km before changing them out.
  12. So your whining stopped? (had to say it before Rhonda did) Glad to hear they resolved it for you. Nice that Pioneer went what seems like extra steps to resolve the issue.
  13. Great info in this thread. First and foremost is the info from the above two posts. OP has a 2004 so best case the bike is 8 years old, 9 years old if manufactured in 2003 (2004 model). Yeah.... time to change the fluid !
  14. I'm logged in with Chrome and no issues.
  15. So... if I pay my subscription early.... does the year start from that date or just carries on from my anniversary date? For example... if I pay 6 months early.... do I lose 6 months of paid time?
  16. Never mind Chrissy.... what if the rest of our wives see how he spoils her ! They'll expect the same thing from us!
  17. Interesting article including some accident stats. http://www.wheels.ca/news/after-son-dies-in-crash-opp-officer-preaches-motorcycle-training-4/ Suggestion of limiting new riders to 125cc or less motorcycles is a bit extreme. I don't think you can find anything less than a 250 and event then I believe there are only 2 choices for 250's. Even what used to be common 400-500cc bikes no longer exist. I agree that graduated licensing should include limits on engine size. Making a course mandatory is good. Around here there are courses for M1 to M2 and M2 exit.... but no advanced rider courses. Something like the OPP training or "Ride Like a Pro" would be nice and I'd take one of those if available here. Car drivers don't see us. I like to think that my SilverStar Ultra on high beam during the day and GE H7616 passing lights make me more visible. If I see a car at an intersection where they may turn in front of me I weave a bit (which works if they are looking in my direction when I'm weaving). I make sure I have a "blocker" in front and behind me if I'm in traffic.... close enough front and back that a car wouldn't chance turning into them. If I only have a car in front of me I hang back far enough that cars approaching from the side can see me. I think the stats on rider error, speed/braking experience come into play with stats. Surprised by the number of non-licensed riders... which probably also means no insurance. Intersections are still high in danger zones. Always good for a reminder on riding safe. As temperatures fall car drivers don't expect us to be out. Deer and other critters are active now.... be more careful at night. Stay alert !
  18. Stay safe!
  19. My first impression was that Carl had finally come to his senses and picked up a bike from this century !
  20. All but a couple packages are mailed out and only a few to deliver locally. Those in Canada should have their package in the next week and a half, U.S. in about 2 weeks... and Australia.... wait for it.... TWO MONTHS !!!!!!!
  21. I have the Tag-along but find I have to be careful how I load it. This year I put a cooler rack on the tongue as close to the box as I can get it and tongue weight can get too high very easily. If you look at how far back the axle is on the Tag-along and how much of the box is behind the axle.... you don't have a lot of room to balance the weight distribution. 80-90% of the box is in front of the axle. Leaves very little room to put heavy stuff behind the wheels. Extending the tongue won't help. With the flat bed trailer it looks like the frame extends further behind the axle so would be easier to lighten tongue weight. How have others handled the weight issue on the Tag-along? Going to look over the Winter to see if the box can be adjusted back or if hanging a spare tire underneath and behind the axle would work.
  22. If you look in the title bar area you'll see a "Search" function. Click on it and you'll get a pop up window. At the bottom is a Google search field. Type in something like "rear clicking" and then choose the radio button for www.venturerider.org (limits search to this site). Click on the "Google search" button... and you'll find every entry for clicking rear ends. Check : http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=449862 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=263965 Welcome to the site !
  23. $175 ???? Wow.... think I'll just lock mine up in the trunk when I park !
  24. Won't miss it !
  25. I'd like to thank the members who responded. Just wanted to get an understanding why some members "carry" when they ride. Think the response was basically "just in case". I've travelled in the States and don't have any reservations about touring in the States. Next summer we'll be travelling West from the International and looking forward to it. Won't be "packing" and don't see the need for it. Getting back to the original topic...I never leave my gps on the bike, I lock the helmets in the trunk or use the helmet hooks (unless I'm within site of it). Covering the bike is a good idea and locking the front is a good idea depending on where you are. Be aware of your surroundings and try to park under a light near the entrance to hotel/motel. You don't have to protect your things from honest people. Those slightly dishonest people will be put off by covers or locks. Those that want your possessions will find a way to take them no matter how much damage they have to cause.
