  1. No conflict in what I said or the info. Vibe was made under the joint venture GM/Toyota had in Freemont California. The Matrix has been made at the Toyota plant in Cambridge Ontario. Two different plants. They were based on the same platform but varied in trim primarily (grilles, badging, etc). Sort of like Ford and Mercury years ago. I've worked for Toyota for over 22 years.... I know where they were made.
  2. Definitely NOT true about the Vibe and Matrix being made in the same plant. Our location is the ONLY location that has ever made the Matrix. The Pontiac Vibe stopped production when GM pulled out of the joint venture at the NUMMI plant in California. To clarify the article in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NUMMI ... the plant I work at (in I.T.) opened in 1988 and has made the Corolla from day 1. Matrix was added in 2004. We have made the Camry Solara in the past but that line switched to Lexus RX300/RX350 (only plant outside of Japan that makes Lexus). Our second plant in Woodstock makes the RAV4... with an electric version using the Tesla power plant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TMMC
  3. Vibe was made in the joint venture GM/Toyota plant in California that shut down a few years ago. The Matrix is made at the plant I work at in Cambridge, Ontario.
  4. That was funny
  5. When I upgraded my tv's, I looked at model info based on my understanding of the specs and narrowed down the list of what I wanted. One of the items was LCD vs Plasma (LED came out later). For me, I went plasma because of the room and the sports/shows that I commonly watch. Buying a brand name is important and I'll go with the major brands. If someone tells me "manufacturer/model X is as good as Y" (Y being a major brand like Sony, Panasonic)... I'll buy Y. Yes, there are limited companies that make certain items. But the major brands USUALLY have tighter tolerances on components. Yes Sony and no-name companies buy panels from the same manufacturers... but not the identical panels. The manufacturer will make one panel for Sony, another for LG, etc. Even the electronic components in the tv's will vary based on spec. Sony, Panasonic, LG make different levels of tv's. You can get a high end Panasonic plasma tv of a certain size, and two lower levels with the same screen size... but the lower panels have lower specs or quality tolerances. I work in the computer department for Toyota in Cambridge, Ontario where we make the Lexus RX350 on one line and Corolla on another. Same location but different quality levels, tolerances. Both made by Toyota... but different level of vehicle. Buying something like a tv or digital camera, I'll look at the specs important to me, narrow it down to a few models, read magazine reviews, then look at customer reviews. You have to be careful with customer reviews though because people will rate something higher to justify their decision.
  6. Nancy loaded the upgrade on her laptop the day it came out and really likes it. Installed it on my desktop but haven't had a chance to play with it yet.
  7. Nothing wrong with opening old threads. Gives us something to read over the Winter months and opens topics that some haven't seen before.
  8. Congratulations on the retirement ! If you get bored... could always get a job as a Walmart greeter!
  9. '83 Venture "Rat" hot rod. Looks cool. Might even be able to keep up with a 2nd Gen without all that plastic ! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custom-Rat-Rod-Hot-Rod-Bike-1983-Yamaha-Venture-Royale-/261122338968?forcev4exp=true
  10. Quite the ride !
  11. Shows the "up to 60% off" on the facebook page but pricing is on "damaged" wind screens. New "flawless" screens are 10% off.
  12. Good choice on transportation today !
  13. Doesn't sound like it would be worth salvaging or buying from the insurance company (" $6900 if I keep it and $9700 if I turn it over"). If you can... take off anything worth keeping (eg trailer receiver, Stebel horn, added wiring harnesses - horn, trailer... passing light spacer) and let the insurance company take it. Then you could turn around and offer them what you consider a fairer price so you can part out anything else that is undamaged.
  14. I think both subjects would be a good option for the next post (or two). Most on the site have a Venture or RSTD but also have a second or third bike. Pointing out what a long distance bike should have, then how to prep a bike (RSTD, Venture, Wing, or other) would be good.
  15. They are really building up the possibilities of winds/rain/damage for this coming storm. The NJ Governor just did a press conference (sounds like a nice guy btw). For members on the East coast take care the next couple days. Sounds like it will hit near New Jersey and then head North West and come as far as Toronto. I know the forecast/predictions are usually worse than what we get but better to be safe rather than dead or injured.
  16. We also have a "Paris" in Ontario ! The cart was in the middle of the road and the rider was on the proper side of the road.
  17. I know we often talk of deer and drivers that don't see us... but keep your eyes out and be attentive of other things as well. http://www.lfpress.com/2012/10/27/biker-seriously-injured-after-striking-cart-left-in-road-in-london As the season winds down for most of us, drivers are less attentive to bikers, and the obstacles faced increase. Be careful out there.
  18. Just glad you are still with us ! How did you celebrate the anniversary? Have deer meat for dinner?
  19. Add a few toppings and isn't it sort of like ice cream? Twice the number of letters so maybe twice as good? Just don't eat the yellow snow !!!!
  20. Sorry to hear about your wreck. As long as you are okay thats the important thing. How did it happen?
  21. Notice the skid marks on the apex of the turn heading to the other lane? Definitely too interested in the photo op rather than watching where he was going. From the lean going into the corner he would hav been better off trying to make the curve rather than hitting the brake (didn't skid). I too feel sorry for the Vette driver. Nice car and didn't take much to take the fender off !
  22. Will be interesting the next time the whole group gets together and we are all wearing our shirts ! Canadians, eh ?
  23. Our condolences to the family. Don & Nancy
  24. Just read this on Wired.com.... http://www.wired.com/autopia/2012/10/roadkill-strobes/ Maybe find a way to change a 2nd Gen whine to a sound like an animal in distress and add "predator" eyes to the front?
