  10. Congratulations on buying the bike ! Glad you posted your question and asked for the advice. You got several answers on what to watch out for and sounds like you've taken the advice and gone to the PO and dealer with this information. You became a knowledgeable buyer. What was the final price you agreed on ? $9,000 ? Is there any Yamaha warranty left on the bike (because it's been sitting for a while and has low mileage I doubt Yamaha would cover anything other than manufacturing issues anyway so a carb cleaning would be up to the dealer to do). Is it a Yamaha dealer ? Now all you have to do is wait for riding weather ! Good time to start looking at safety chrome ! Lots of people here that will help you spend your money !
  11. Also keep in mind that Ventures don't move very quickly off show room floors. Bet you have room to barter for a better price. With a 2007.... when does the warranty expire (starts from original date of purchase and is transferable at the dealers). If the Yamaha 5 year warranty is up.... try to give you a warranty from the dealer. Be prepared to replace the battery, tires good for 7 years so you'll be looking at doing them regardless of mileage in 2 years, low mileage could be an issue for carbs. Hopefully you've checked the shock for oil leakage.
  12. Splitting the fairing - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=494 Installing passing lights - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43898 Installing the passing light spacer is a great idea otherwise any time you take the fairing apart you have to drop the passing light - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1656 Didn't see instructions on installing the luggage rack. The Yamaha rack comes with a template to line up the holes. Scary when you have to drill but triple check your alignment and you'll do fine. If you buy a 3rd party rack, make sure you put bracing inside the trunk lid to support it (Yamaha rack comes with bracing). Also... keep in mind that you aren't supposed to carry more than 20 lbs on the rack or risk cracking the lid.
  13. I know for my Mustang when I changed from OEM Pirelli's to Michelin Pilot Sport AS (GREAT tire by the way) I set pressure to 30psi (as per door sticker) but found them soft. The Michelin site says that for their tire on a Mustang to go to 32psi. Made a difference you could feel driving the car ! Check the tire mfr to see if they recommend a pressure for that tire on a Jeep.
  14. The threads just give you a way to get the plug out. I use a screw with the same thread, screw in a couple threads and pull it out. Think the false fins keep pressure on it to keep it in.
  15. How many people bought the "pet rock" ? Now you can throw them ! I checked.... no International shipping and won't ship to Canada. Damn ! Wonder if the FBI does back ground checks on anyone wanting to purchase the rock that is for sale? Or is it exempt because its a private sale?
  16. Congratulations !!!!
  17. This thread has some comments but doesn't explain how to take the cowling off - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41310 You'll need this tool if you don't already have one - http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4258&title=steering-head-bearing-nut-wrench-&cat=6 Try this for getting at the bearings - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44668

  24. We can ask to use Bill 115 to put you back into a forced contract before they repeal it. Ask Swifty what that is like !
  25. Still... 1st Gen 1/4 mile at 12.6 sec / 165.0 km/h (102.5 mph), top speed - 198.7 km/h (123.47 mph)... 2nd Gen 1/4 mile at 13.58 sec / 95.25 mph (153.3 km/h), top speed 110 mph (177.03 km/h) I'll give that based on specs the 1st Gen was faster... Question is.... do you want an old bike that needs constant up keep if you can find parts, or a newer bike that you just ride ?
