  1. Nice looking bike ! Now time to dress it up ! You might want to take the flag off the antenna. I remember seeing somewhere that it can lead to a broken mount.
  2. Sorry to hear about your Cousin.
  3. Think I have a way to move the cargo box back about 4 1/4" towards the rear. Moving the cargo box back I measured how far I could go and have the front of the box even with the front part of the frame. Welding a couple L brackets in the new locations would allow me better adjustment on the tongue weight. BTW.... center to center on the wheels is 37 1/2". Center of ball to axle is 58". Per previous posts the tongue should be 1 1/2 times the wheel width... and the Tag Along meets this (slightly more) http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=478634&postcount=5
  4. One of my neighbours welded up a rack for me. To fasten bungie cords to it he welded on nuts.
  5. As for trouble shooting... keep in mind that the windscreen reflects lot of sound from the back end of the bike. If you can provide some details... 1) does it "rattle" when idling or when riding or both? 2) have you checked to make sure all bolts are tight? Check any safety chrome that has been added 3) if you are positive the sound is coming from the engine it would be good to identify if it is top or bottom end. If the sound only happens when the bike is moving I'd suspect the lower end of the motor (clutch?) or something to do with the drive shaft (if rear tire was replaced it is possible something wasn't done right) I have an '09 and only rattling that goes on while I'm riding is me !
  6. Isn't so much the weight of the cooler rack but the weight of the cooler with water/food in it. I've seen a of posts where people say the tongue is too short on the cargo trailer. This is the flatbed trailer that does not come with a cargo box. People narrow the trailer, buy a car roof carrier, and lengthen the tongue. http://www.harborfreight.com/870-lb-capacity-40-inch-x-49-inch-heavy-duty-utility-trailer-with-8-inch-wheels-and-tires-42708.html I have a Tag Along and other than the box not being far enough back to be able to move cargo around to adjust the tongue weight, the tongue length on this trailer doesn't seem to be an issue. I know there is a calculation for wheel to wheel distance vs tongue length (I'll take the measurement this afternoon). I don't have any sway but have had issues with tongue weight with the cooler mounted. http://www.harborfreight.com/600-lb-capacity-78-inch-tag-along-trailer-66771.html
  7. Congratulations on finding your new ride !
  8. The harness can be purchased from a member vendor - M61A1MECH http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4200&title=auxillary-tail-light-harness-for-royal-star-venture&cat=35 For the bike you'll need an isolator. Using Steve's harness is MUCH easier !
  9. Glad to hear you are recovering !
  10. Hey Bob... just saw a weather advisory that a Colorado low and a Canadian Arctic blast are going to merge directly over your house and stay stationary for about a week. Snow SNOW SNOW !!!! LOL - only kidding !
  11. Nice truck !
  12. On my way to work this morning at 6am (-4C/25F and light snow falling) I saw a guy on a bike with a sidecar. Roads are icy and yet he was out. Sorry.... won't catch me out until the roads have been washed by rain a few times to get rid of the salt and sand.
  13. NO better bike than the Venture !!!!
  14. Make sure you consider where you'll get a plate for the trailer. Each trailer has a vin number. I drilled out the rivets on the plate on mine and declared it as a "kit" build.... which essentially it is. If you get a plate before you leave home... the questions they asked me was : - number of axles = 1 - weight = 150lbs - color = black
  15. You could buy cheap tools at Harbor Freight and only buy what you need. Couple wrenches and you are done. Have you looked at the assembly manual? If not... let me know and I'll scan it and send it to you. EDIT - here is a link to the assembly manual - http://manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/66000-66999/66771.pdf
  16. Congratulations !
  17. Yes, assembly is required.
  18. I bought my 09 RSV "used" (was only 3 months old and had 2500km on it so it was practically new). The last two cars I bought were used as well. Sorry... but I don't think telling someone that is buying a new bike that they should buy used is good. There is nothing like a new car, a new bike, or a new house. Knowing that YOU are the first owner, that no one else has messed with it.... the smell of a new house/car.... sorry, but if you haven't had the pleasure then you are missing out. Sure... a car depreciates the minute you drive it off the lot. But who cares? No one plans on selling their car the moment they drive off the lot. And really... knowing that it is new and you are the only one .... priceless.
  19. If you move the axle back, it makes it harder to control/adjust the tongue weight since more would be in front of the axle. Add a cooler rack to the tongue and you need as much behind the axle as you can get. With the design of the Tag Along there isn't much room behind the axle to begin with.
  20. No problem.... happen to have the lid in my living room taping it up to paint. :-)
  21. The box measures 38 1/2" wide by 47" long. Holds 18 cubic feet of "stuff".
  22. I know what you mean Miles. Each of has interests whether it is motorcycles, golf, cruises, cars.... We spend money on what we like. Some over spend. Some when they get a little extra like to give back to charity. I commend you for that.
  23. Get well soon !
  24. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery !! Don & Nancy
  25. On the Clearview site it says : "GT X-Large 22" H 27" W Stock Height Measurement Location: Height is measured vertically from the dip just in front of the gas cap to the top edge of the shield." F4 says that their 17.5" h is the same height as stock. Yamaha says "Height is measured from top of headlight cut-out to top of windshield." From parts diagram of RSV - stock windscreen is 4XY-2837U-01. Doesn't give dimensions of the part though.
