  1. Congratulations on making it to the first call. I work at the Toyota plant in Cambridge Ontario in the Information Systems department. Been here 23 years. Good luck with the hiring process !
  2. Only time I notice slipping with the E3's is if I lock up the rear. Front feels like it is skittering in corners when pressure is below 36psi. Handle road snakes extremely well, great in heavy rain. Next tire change I can't see putting anything other than E3's back on. I keep the front at 36-37psi, rear at 40psi. Rear shock 30psi (I'm 200lbs, Nancy about 120lbs), front at 3psi.
  3. For the iPod connection, as long as you have the cbus cable to the left saddlebag where the cd changer goes you can get an iSimple adapter from Yamaha (about $170). You can connect your iPod or iPhone and control it from the handle bar controls. I did a write up on it a while ago.
  4. What happens if you add it to your "cart"? What price is it then?
  5. Your setting a bad example ! Nancy wants a new house... if she sees this what am I going to do ?
  6. My first bike was a Kawasaki KZ305LTD. Was a good bike to learn on. Had a Wing pull up beside me at a light one time. In a condescending tone he said "nice little bike". By the time he caught up to me at the next light his tone changed and he said "that bike is pretty quick!".
  7. Accident in Toronto today that killed the motorcyclist. He struck a pedestrian that crossed mid-block. Early in the season. Car drivers aren't totally aware of us, pedestrians, kids, animals... Recheck your bike's nuts and bolts, tire pressures, brakes. Any new additions should be checked to make sure they are still secure. http://www.thestar.com/news/crime/2013/05/04/one_motorcyclist_dead_two_pedestrians_injured_in_downtown_collision.html This one is more for the information than finding a lawyer : http://www.motorcycleaccident.org/motorcycle-accidents-statistics-and-possible-causes/ Ontario stats - http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/orsar/orsar08/special-vehicles.shtml#motorcycles U.S. 2012 - http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/1225013 CDC report - http://www.cdc.gov/features/dsmotorcyclesafety/index.html Old report - http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-Safety/crash.htm
  8. Check the linkage underneath and make sure it is well greased. If you don't see oil leaking under the bike (check the bottom of the shock) then it might be the linkage and not the shock.
  9. I did that to a rear signal... just soldered it back on and works fine. Not much slack in the wire so I added about 3".
  10. Gary... do you have pictures of every part on the Ventures? Just lucky you had a picture already? Or have spare parts around you can take pictures of and post as questions come up?
  11. I know on the 2nd Gen there are two cables from the throttle. Don't know about a 1st Gen... but check to make sure your throttle cables aren't broken. If one is... I believe that would explain it.
  12. Glad he is continuing to improve !
  13. Here is a short write up at the release : http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/polaroid-xs7-xs20-xs100-hands-on/ Customer reviews - http://www.amazon.com/Polaroid-Extreme-Waterproof-Mounting-Included/product-reviews/B00A81SXHI
  14. I'm not looking to do it.... just curious what it would take. If someone else wanted to do it and had the $$$$.... this might be a good way to spur them on. :-)
  15. Don't know what we did before the Internet.....doing a search : Fixya : The carburetors are different, the cams (cam lobe/position) timing is different, the exhaust is restricted, I believe the CDI timing has been changed, and the counter balancer shaft in the main block of the motor has been removed causing more wear ,tear, and vibration in the motor. The spot in the motor is still in the motor for the counter balancer shaft in front of the crank shaft so it can be put in . there may be other changes but these are probably the most critical. It is not cost effective to upgrade a Royal Star unless you have a donor Vmax. He also claims "new style Royal Star (most restricted and self destructive). The motors have been so greatly detuned that they have lost some reliability." Another source (http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/) - "smaller cam with softer springs in it, smaller carbs, and higher transmission and rear gear ratios... carbs are 28 mm compared to the V-max having 35 mm carbs"
  16. Knowing that the RSV has a detuned 1300cc VMax motor in it... does anyone know what was "detuned"? Other than dropping in a VMax motor.... if one were to "tune" a Venture engine, what would one do ? I know we are always complaining that the Venture hasn't seen updates since its introduction in '99... but reading Wikipedia on the VMax, things could be worse. Until 2008, the original V-Max was offered for sale through the Star Motorcycles division of Yamaha Motorcycles. Apart from a minor freshening to the bike's specifications in 1993, when the bike gained a larger-diameter fork to minimize high-speed wobbling and drift, four-piston brake calipers, and other handling and safety related upgrades, the 2008 V-Max was almost the same as the original 1985 version. ...2009 ... features of the VMAX include an all aluminium frame with its 1,679 cc (102 cu in) liquid cooled V4 DOHC engine used as a stressed member of the chassis, an electroluminescent instrument readout, Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I), fully adjustable suspension, anti-lock brakes, slipper clutch, a fuel tank beneath the seat, and a distinctive key 23 years unchanged...think they'll run out of cassette players before then !
  17. Congratulations !
  18. Don't forget as the temperatures increases the fuel expands in the bowls. Consider that today hit 25 C (77 F).
  19. The pin striping is not my strong point. Get up close and the lines are a bit wavy... not perfect... but cruising down the road no one will notice.
  20. .... and with the number of people here that still ride 1st Gen's... think this group likes stable machinery rather than the latest "fad" or bells and whistles. If you want "up-to-date".... then wouldn't an e-bike be "current"?
  21. I know you aren't putting down the Venture, but.... I'll grant that a cassette player is outdated... but what is wrong with the rest of the bike? Fuel Injection vs carbs? Lot of positive reasons for having carbs. Does FI make the bike run differently? No... so what's wrong with carbs? Easier to maintain, less "overhead", less complicated. ABS ? Not all bikes have ABS. Mine stop me fine. Motor ? Give me a 4 cylinder over a twin any day. This motor is tried and true. Belt drive is probably "newer" than shaft drive, but I'll stick with shaft drive. Lights ? Incandescent bulbs work.... easy to personalize with LEDs or HID if you choose. Audio system ? AM/FM is still broadcast isn't it? CB is great for group rides. Has input for mp3 players, plus the interface for the iPhone/iPod works thru the controller, interfaces with my gps. It works fine... what is there to update other than the cassette? More lights and guages on the dash ? Don't really need 'em. As far as I know, all other bikes on the market have the same type of wheels, seats, exhaust.... nothing there to upgrade. So... only thing outdated is the cassette deck. Hmmmm....
  22. You have something against Canada ? Gotta share the free dinner with us Canucks !
  23. Even though the 2nd Gen has been the same since '99... can say the same thing about Yamaha dealers and Ventures. All because Yamaha doesn't market the Venture very well.
  24. One thing the HD and Victory don't have... is VentureRiders.org !
  25. I used Canadian prices.
