  3. What would you look for in a new (or used touring bike) to replace your Venture/Wing/etc ?
  4. I take it you moved the post by Loren to the 1st gen questions... still shows as a post to the new member welcome. Is there a way to fix the new member notice? Sometimes it doesn't include where they are from. Also... was going to send it via pm or email but no option to attach a file.
  5. Lets all take out our cassette decks and ship them in bulk to Yamaha. That way they can continue production of the Venture. We all know that is why they discontinued it - they ran out !
  6. Welcome back. We haven't met yet but wish you luck in finding a 2nd Gen. Best of the Ventures ! Hully Gully lists a 2009. Seems a bit pricey at $14k but think you can talk them down. U.S. bike with 23k miles. http://hullygully.com/2009-YAMAHA-ROYAL%20STAR%20VENTURE%20XVZ13TFYR-/tabid/75/Default.aspx?vID=1327 Several listed in autotrader - http://www.autotrader.ca/a/motorcycles_atvs/Used/Yamaha/all/Yamaha%20ROYAL%20STAR%20VENTURE/?prx=100&cty=KITCHENER&prv=Ontario&r=40&loc=n2e4a6 A few on Yakaz - http://ca.yakaz.com/motorbikes/yamaha-royal-star-venture-for-sale-canada#cc=CA&cname=Type&gbin=mQTj_YR57&gid=current&htopics=1&univ=motorbikes&v=txt&what=yamaha%20royal%20star%20venture%20for%20sale&zm=9
  7. That might be a good idea. How many people would be interested in going down on the Saturday of the long weekend (or Sunday if I get Bob to pick up the parts)... or Monday July 1 ? Only issue is the border crossing and how busy it might be considering it would be a long weekend. Let me know who would be in for the Canada Long weekend
  8. Probably took the photo of Marissa with you when you were cutting the grass. No wonder it took you so long !
  9. We know you were referring to a different bunch of clowns.
  10. Now that I've ordered chrome air intakes from Pioneer Motorsport... how do I get them home? One option is to have them shipped (USPS of course).... or spend the same amount on gas and ride down there instead? Throwing this out there... anyone up for a ride to Chaffee next Saturday (June 22nd) ? They should have it in by then. Could cross in Niagara Falls or Erie.... depends on if Carl comes. :-) Figured we could hook up with the WNY people if they are available... lunch or ice cream.
  11. Sorry Tom... but I did say snow would be worse than rain !
  12. Glad you finally found your problem. On the wire/tie wrap... I work in networking and we got away from using tie wraps. They do "cut" into the cables. We only use velcro ties in our network closets now. If you open my fairing you'll see velcro ties. I also used velcro to fasten my passing light relay to the inside fairing piece.
  13. With the RSV now officially discontinued and some of the OEM parts having already been discontinued.... if you are looking for a Yamaha part that is no longer on the yamaha-motor.ca site, check yamaha-motor.com. I've wanted the chrome air intakes but they are not available from Yamaha Canada. They are however, available in the U.S.. I checked pricing online (Cruiser Customizing has them for $347 vs Yamaha list price of $449) and then contacted Chad at Pioneer Motorsport. He can order them and will match the lowest price. (for those that haven't dealt with Pioneer... great family to deal with - and we get a 15% discount off list). Just a heads up for those that haven't thought of it... with the RSV production stopped, so too will be the OEM accessories. Even Yamaha U.S. no longer has the ball milled air intakes. You can only get the smooth ones (which is what I ordered). Pricing between U.S. and Canada are pretty even for list prices with some Canadian prices being lower than U.S.. But if what you want isn't available here... go thru the U.S.
  14. When I was looking for a long distance bike I test rode the Wing, HD Ultra Classic Electra Glide, and Venture. I then went with this criteria : - how the riding position fit me - how well the bike rode (the vibration of the HD turned me off it right away) - liquid cooled (for riding in hot temperatures) - shaft drive (I was coming from a '99 Virago 1100 and knew that shaft drive was low maintenance) - styling of the bike - trunk/saddle bag space - dealer locations/# in North America Like trying on shoes, the Wing didn't fit, Ultra was less than ultra, and the RSV fit like a glove. And the 5 year warranty ! Not many Kawasaki or Suzuki dealers in my area... so I ruled them out.
  15. 2015... by then they'll have had 15 years to redesign and build one hell of a bike ! (since nothing but the seat and colours have changed since '99)
  16. The rumour on vr.org was that a 3rd Gen would be released next year... then the next year.... then the next year.
  17. Would you rather have snow?
  18. For some that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
  19. Check out a 2nd Gen with the oem rack and compare it to what Carl can get you. If we get together sometime you can check mine out.
  20. Harley was reported to be discontinuing models as well (Apr 30, 2013) http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news--general-news/harley-to-discontinue-six-models-for-2014/22687.html. From http://forums.cycleworld.com/showthread.php?t=253038 "The 4 H-D models which sold in insufficient numbers are: the Sportster XR1200X, the Softail Blackline, the Electra Glide Classic FLHTC and the Road King FLHR. However, the Road King's versions have different destinies: the FLHRC will no longer be sold in the US, while the FLHR will be abandoned outside the US. Two Road Glides will no longer be available for 2014: the Custom FLTRX and the Ultra FLTRU. These are said to be completely redesigned and manufacturing them requires new tooling and parts, but Harley-Davidson does not specify when will they be available again."
  21. On a positive note.... maybe it will start a run on Ventures. Just like what happened to the "Twinkie" when they went bankrupt. Watch for pricing on EBay to triple for a Venture ! People will start hoarding them !
  22. I don't know if it would make a difference but one thing we could do is let Yamaha know that they have abandoned a great bike. I've sent Yamaha Canada an email and asked that they forward it to Yamaha Corporate... you never know... it might help resurrect a 3rd Gen . Certainly can't hurt. Copy of what I sent : I see that Yamaha has discontinued the RS Venture after the 2013 model year. As a satisfied owner of one of the best touring bikes on the market that met a price point below the Gold Wing and Harley touring bike, I am disappointed that Yamaha discontinued the model rather than update it. Leaving the model unchanged for 14 years (and still including a cassette deck in the 2013 model) hasn't hurt the strong following of the RSV as a bike that met all the requirements for a touring bike - large fuel tank, liquid cooled, large trunk and saddle bags, low maintenance shaft drive.... Parked among Harley's, Wings, and Victory's, my RSV catches the attention of the other bikers and future riders for its looks and features. Only thing Yamaha had to do was minor updates such as ABS, remove the cassette deck and add guages, fix the notorious clutch basket whine... and it would still be one of the best TOURING bikes on the market. A Feb 2013 refers to the Venture as one of the "Best Used Bikes" despite being unchanged. http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/02/22/yamaha-star-royal-star-venture-best-used-bikes/ By discontinuing the Venture, Yamaha has left the touring market. What is listed as a 2014 Yamaha "Touring" model is nothing but v-twin, belt drive "baggers". For those of us ride and want an updated TOURING bike but don't like the looks of the Victory Cross Country, the "tupperware" of the Gold Wing, or the unreliability of the Harley.... you've left us without a true Yamaha TOURING bike. Unless Yamaha brings back the Venture in the future with the things that a touring bike should have... this will be my last Yamaha even though I've been a loyal Yamaha customer for years. I ask you to forward my disappointment to Yamaha Corporate (Japan) as I'm sure a number of other Venture owners will be voicing their thoughts on the loss of a great motorcycle.
  23. Motorcycle web page that lists the new models, status of the Venture - http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcycles/2014models/2014-Yamaha.htm 2014 Touring class : Stratoliner Deluxe - no trunk, air cooled, vtwin, belt drive. Silverado - back rest, no trunk, air cooled, vtwin, belt drive V-Star 1300 Deluxe - liquid cooled, vtwin, belt drive V-Star 1300 Tourer - blah blah blah V-Star 950 Tourer - blah blah blah Full baggers is what they are, NOT touring bikes. Yamaha has left the true touring bike market. They go from having one of the best, unique in its class bikes, to "discontinued".
  24. Feb 2013 article on "Best Used Bikes"... guess what they say is one of the best used bikes? http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/02/22/yamaha-star-royal-star-venture-best-used-bikes/
  25. With the bike on Accessory... put on a head set and wiggle the cables. Try the drivers cable, then the passenger. Test with both helmets. Possible it is just your cord. Another question.... does the music cut out too when playing the radio or ACC or just the intercom? As suggested....check to see if your cb is turned on and at what squelch setting. This would affect music.
