Almost took two riders out in the Moto GP race
-
Little too close to home and my first concern was for local members. https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/two-people-killed-another-airlifted-to-hospital-after-crash-in-brant-county-1.5066513 This is a two lane country road. Speed limit is 80kph/50mph. Intersection where the pick-up truck pulled in front of the bikes is clear, no view obstructions at all. No reason that the driver couldn't see two bikes. https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1236888,-80.019905,3a,75y,22.57h,107.38t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sj-yiCExBzfNLX4DQ_fLSTw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 Even when you think the other vehicles at intersections can see you, don't count on it. I ride with passing lights and high beam on all the time and coming up to an intersection where I see vehicles stopped I'll swerve back and forth in my lane to hopefully be seen. Be careful !

This is from our Parliament site and has a 10 pt comparison with the U.S. government https://lop.parl.ca/About/Parliament/senatoreugeneforsey/inside_view/canada_usa-e.html

Broken down.... In 1982, it (Canada) adopted its own constitution - true ...and became a completely independent country. - true ...Although it's still part of the British Commonwealth—a constitutional monarchy that accepts the British monarch as its own. - true but only because of tradition and being a parliamentary system of government - someone has to have final signature. In our case our Governor General signs in place of the Queen (at the Federal level) but is selected by our government in place at the time (current one is a piece of work though - abusive work environment, she had changes made to the official residence (lots of $$$$) and still doesn't live there)...Elizabeth II is Queen of Canada. - true but as said more because of tradition and parliamentary system of government. Even at the provincial level we have a lieutenant-governor of the province who acts as the Crown's representative in all areas of provincial jurisdiction See the following for info on our system of government -https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/provincial-government

That link prompted me to sign in with my Facebook ID. I'm already logged into Facebook so...sorry....not going there. I trust you Cowpuc....just not the Internet. I work in computers and try to be careful where I go. That is different when following Carl on a ride though - Him I trust to take me new and interesting places....and following him I'll go where he goes. Marca would't let him wander too far off the safe path. I take it from your post Puc that he has copied files from here. I think there were a couple posts early in the days of VR.org that came from Venturers but as I recall they were posted with permission. And if someone posts a link to another site, no one on here seems to mind. As Don said....enough said on this subject. These aren't the droids you are looking for.
-
Hope this was only a severe scare....be more careful in the future Don....which I'm sure your wife has told you already.
-
He may not have sold the calendars but did he copy the tech documents?
-
Here Sonny admits to taking the documents on VR.org and putting them on his Facebook page. I take exception to this as I have written and submitted "how to" documents TO VR.org....NOT to his Facebook page. I would think that the documents in the tech section BELONG to VR.org and are not free to the world to repost or take credit for them. Sonny...if you are reading this I ask that you remove any document I wrote and posted on VR.org from your Facebook page. Anything I wrote I have NOT given you permission to use on your Facebook page. As the author of those tech articles I own or gave ownership to VR.org.....NOT to you.

...and.... https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?37271-My-RSTD-custom-project-(Caution-nekkidness-inside)&highlight=sonny+facebook He had 231 posts on vr.org....and was here yesterday even though he is an expired member : Join Date - 05-16-2007 Last Activity - yesterday (08-14-2020) Last Post - 01-10-2010 Doesn't like us helping people by referring to articles here but still checks out VR.org. Sorry Sonny....but we are here to support other riders of Ventures and RSTD. Doesn't matter what site you refer people to whether here or your facebook page. Gotta help each other.

Also see https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?44230-vr-org-facebook&highlight=sonny+facebook post 13 from the "Sunman" in 2010 where he says he "The goal of the facebook page, is two fold, first to give all Venture and RSTD riders and fans, a page and presence on facebook, and secondly to introduce them to this site." (meaning VR.org).

I've heard others say the same thing about his attitude. He is quick to jump all over people who don't share his opinions.
-
I had a "run in" with him when I posted a link to VR.org to answer a question for someone on his site. I don't find Facebook to be very friendly to doing searches on a forum. You try to help someone and he reacts that way.

2nd gen relays and fuses
XV1100SE replied to OutKast's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
From my memory....one of the reasons for the manual switch is based on laws in various regions. Think in some places you can't have them on at certain times. -
2nd gen relays and fuses
XV1100SE replied to OutKast's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have added two 6 gang fuse blocks to my bike and relays. One fuse block is in the front fairing/cowl, the other inside the passenger back rest (there is a hollow area in the backrest). From the gang box in the cowl.... - I wired my gps so it is live all the time. I just make sure I don't leave the gps mounted for long periods of time with the bike shut down. - Have a relay for the passing lights, wired as per instructions in the read only area. Active with high and low beam with waterproof switch in the back of the cowl to turn off if necessary Coming off the fuse block in the passenger back rest I have : - trailer powered converter - don't recall how the relay activates - 2 Stebel airhorns (each has there own fuse and relay and controlled by horn button - pre-existing horn wires) - USB outlet for charging devices inside the trunk (relay activated by running lights - one connection to relay tapped into running lights, other to ground) If you go the route I did, you don't need to use the white aux connector near the battery to trigger this relay. Tying into the running lights and ground does the same thing. Because I couldn't find a connector to plug into the white wire (and didn't want to cut off the connector if I ever found one) when I installed an Aux plug (cigarette lighter) I powered it directly to the battery and an inline fuse so it would be live all the time - so I didn't have to start the bike to inflate air mattress. -
I don't have that issue with my 2nd GEN. I moved my trunk back one bolt hole to give the passenger more room. You'd have to use nuts on two for the four bolts to do this. But....if you don't want to move the trunk back, loosen the four bolts in the trunk and move the trunk back a little bit to access the handrail bolts.

Supposed to rain today so last night I took the time to give the bike a wash (2nd time this year). For the first time in 10 years I noticed one of the bolts holding the trunk brace to the rear fender had backed out about 1/4". One of the benefits of washing the bike occasionally is to inspect for issues. Went over the bike and snugged up a couple other bolts. I do periodically check the bolts on the back of the cowl and remove the chrome strip below the windscreen to check the windscreen bolts. Just a reminder...around mid season... give your bike a once over.

Got over the 100,000 km number today (nice working from home). Last weekend it rained most of the weekend.

Now you dun(g) it ! Now he knows my plans !

I joined VentureRider.org on June 30, 2009 when I was in the process of deciding what touring bike I was going to purchased. Joined other sites as well to see what people were saying about the different brands and models, see what known issues there were. Rode some of the prospects and decided on the Venture. Took a year before I found my ride, a 2009 Venture that was used (3 months with only 2500km) in July 2010. Of the Venture forums out there, VR.org was the most friendly....none of the "that's a stupid question" or abuse that I saw on other brands of bikes. Became a paid member Aug 8, 2010. In those ten years, I've learned a lot from current and past members, have been able to provide assistance and even a "read only" document along the way. Have been active in attending maintenance day (been a few years since I've been able to go though), annual rallies, even helped organize the Ontario rallies, and provide support to local members (carb tunes, technical knowledge). And not to mention Canadian t-shirts for members, and met a lot of good people. Even got involved in a couple political and gun control discussions that ruffled a few feathers. So cheers to another year as a member...stay safe, keep the rubber side down, and to being one of the best forums on the Internet.

Glad you had the test. Hopefully not covid but best not to mess around.

Did some riding yesterday but still short of 100k. Supposed to rain all day today and Monday. Have to expect that for a long weekend! I started having some issues with my Shoei RF1000....foam from the liner coming apart. Had been thinking I'd wait until fall sales to replace it...figured it was coming up on 7 years. Found the date code on the helmet and discovered that my memory wasn't so good on how old the helmet is. Was manufactured in 2009 so 11 years old and I've probably been riding with it for 10 years. Trip to Royal Distributing in Guelph and got a Shoei RF-SR. Used it yesterday for the ride and felt great. Moving my headset over to it today. Was strange riding yesterday and not being able to talk with Reni during the ride.

I bought my 2009 RSV in July of 2010. Got it used...it had been on the road for 3 months and had 2,500km. List price for new at the time was almost $20,000 but being "used" I paid $14,000 (CDN). As you can see from the picture, I'm nearing the 100,000km mark and should reach this milestone this weekend. Got me thinking.... I got my motorcycle license in August 1990 thru a motorcycle safety course. At the time I was riding a Kawasaki KZ305 cruiser. Rode it for three or four years years and put about 25,000km on it. I remember being at a stop light and a GoldWing rider pulled up next to me and said "nice little bike". When he caught up to me at the next light he said "your bike can really move!". Dropped this bike once on a country road where I over reacted on a curve with gravel and locked the front wheel and ended up in the ditch with a scraped up arm. Couple bikers stopped and helped me get the bike on the road and I rode it home. I rebuilt the motor myself on this one and remember the dealer telling me that I only had to replace three of the four valves after taking them in to get them lapped...and of course riding to work one day the one they told me I didn't need to replace was the one that failed. Ended up replacing the motor. My next bike was a brand new 1999 Yamaha Virago 1100 LTD which I rode from 1999 until 2010 when I got my Venture. Put about 55,000km on the Virago. Only ticket I've ever gotten on a bike was on the Virago and dropped it once when on the street I lived on at the time a car turned in front of me to enter a driveway - again, locked the front wheel and down I went. Great bike, very reliable, and quick. Fastest I had it going was 190kph on a straight stretch of highway. When I got the Venture I was thinking of using the Virago as my daily rider but after riding the Venture the Virago felt small and like a toy. Sold the Virago about 2 months after getting the Venture. In my 30 years and 180,000km of riding as with all riders there have been some close calls but I've learned from my mistakes...those being not anticipating the things other drivers in cars would do. As long as you learn from your experiences...be prepared for the things you would never think would happen....have an escape plan every second of the ride. Longest trip on the Venture was in 2013 when I did 10,000km round trip to Wyoming and Saskatchewan. Going out for a coffee average about 150km ride. I have picked up the Venture one time when at a traffic circle I thought a car approaching from the other direction was going straight thru. Locked up the wheels when they started making the turn in front of me. Brought the bike to a full stop where the angle of the bike was too much for me to keep it up. Was easier to pick up the downed bike than I thought it would be and only took a few seconds. I've had four warranty replacements done on the Venture : - one rear speaker that developed a rattle - fork wind deflector broke at the bracket (I put on the SS fork deflectors and still have the OEM as spares) - fuel pump - rear shock Other than this...oil, coolant, clutch and brake fluid changes, brake pads, and tires... At 100,000km... bike is just "broken in". This Winter I should check valve clearances but other than that, normal maintenance. At 61 years old....hopefully many more miles to go on me and the bike. Have made a lot of friends thru VR.org...and looking forward to seeing everyone again.

1999 Royal Star Venture No Power
XV1100SE replied to Barnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)

If your battery tests as good...double check your grounds.
