There is one strip across each cowling and lines up with where the rear cowling contacts the front. It is above the screw from the back. Hope this helps... if not I'll take mine off again and send a picture.

Looks like mine is going out now too. Had problems starting the bike after oiling my K&N filters. Had noticed that the pump didn't "click" when I turned it on. Tonight as I accelerated out of town the engine started to stumble... ended up pulling over to the side and the engine died. Tried restarting it but it would turn over and not catch. Waited about 10 minutes and turned the key. The pump clicked many times and the engine started no problem. Rode home without issue. Going to call the dealer on Tuesday and see if they'll replace an intermittent problem. In the mean time... I'll run Seafoam thru the tank and check the contacts on the pump to see if spraying them with a cleaner will solve the problem. Don't like the idea of riding with an intermittent problem ... fear of it failing totally and leaving me stuck on the road somewhere.

That was my mistake... looked in the plumbing department to fix a motorcycle. DUH !

When Nancy and I did our trip West this year, the heat got to us too but like you we took breaks when we felt like it and didn't worry about how long we were stopped for. Better to do that than run into health/safety issues. Glad you made it home safely !

There is another Yamaha dealer in the KW area but I always use Performance Cycle for things. Great group of people. Pricing on things they sell is pretty standard but they don't gouge and they are personable. I work at the Toyota plant in Cambridge (in IT) and they are only 5 minutes away from work.

hazard blinkers not working!

The hazard light switch must have a short in it or the wiring going to it has been pinched somewhere. -
My cowlings do have the foam strip (one on each side) plus a white coloured pad towards the top. Just checked the glue... seems to be holding pretty tight.

Princess Auto has something similar but requires a heat gun to activate it. I think Plastix has to be ordered online. http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/Solder-Paste/Auto-Plastic-Weld-Repair-Paste/8127029.p

I used ABS cement on the tab and letting it sit over night. Do the fumes from the ABS cement "eat" the nearby ABS ? I had put the cowl on the floor to set (with forward side up) and when I checked to see how well it was setting noticed some roughness on the cowling in the area near where I had applied the glue. I've since turned the cowling so that the inside is up.

Even though the bike is running fine... I pulled the filters and cleaned up the excess oil.

Performance Cycle on Beaverdale in Cambridge.

Model paint is for ABS.... can it be used for tab repair or would specific "ABS Cement" be best?

Check the read only section on installing passing lights and check your wiring for the passing lights. Could be a bad connection. Also... could be a problem with your hazard light switch. Might have to take it apart and clean the contacts. ...and throw this out.... take your turn signal bulbs out (front and back) and reseat/clean the contacts. Could test one at a time as well to see if you have a bulb that is going bad. -
Did you look at : http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=775910#post775910 or http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=80742 Mr. Gasket seems to be the "standard" replacement but also read somewhere that the Yamaha pump is different in that you might have an issue with vapor lock on a cylinder if you don't turn off your petcock when the bike is sitting. Someone else might be able to confirm this. Funny.... I just got back from a trip and my bike was doing exactly the same thing. Difference though is that I also cleaned and (over) oiled my K&N filters. Think this was cutting off air to the carbs and ran as you described. I waited a few more hours and the bike started fine. As for the clicking.... did you turn the fuel petcock back on before turning the key? This makes a difference.

As seems to be fairly common... the tab on my lower left cowling that holds the nut for the bolt that comes from the rear of the cowling has broken off. I have the two pieces that came off and am looking at repairing it. Talked to the dealer yesterday and he said Yamaha Canada wouldn't warranty it. I mentioned about U.S. members having it replaced and he said Yamaha Canada isn't as generous. From an old thread : I checked with Home Depot and Lowes in Canada and got really funny looks when I asked for ABS cement in black. All they carry is yellow. On the mehyline cloride ... did a search and breathing the fumes can cause problems with the nervous system.... hence I'm nervous to use it and wouldn't know where to find it. Since the repair is on the inside of the cowling and only visible when you take it apart, I'll go with the yellow ABS cement. Black instead of yellow would have been nice but will try to keep the repair nice and clean without a lot of excess glue.

Had my front tire changed at the dealer yesterday and while waiting for them to run it thru the cash I was looking over a table of "parts" they they were selling.... lot of chrome for different bikes. On the table was a sign that read "make an offer". Happened to notice a chrome oil filler cap for the RSV. MSRP said $25. Took it to the counter and said "sign says make an offer....how about throwing it in with the tire change ?". He laughed.... and said "ok". My '09 is not the "S" version so the original oil fill cap was a brushed aluminum. Having the chrome version now blends in better with the chrome on the bike. Like I said... if you don't ask for a deal, you won't get one. Anyone looking for the ball milled chrome caliper covers... they had a set on the table too. I don't have any ball milled chrome so I didn't pick them up. Did the same when I bought my tank bag in Billings Montana at the Honda dealer. Told him I came all the way from Toronto just to visit them and asked for a discount. 10%. In Winnipeg at the Yamaha dealer... bought a Star coffee mug, windshield cleaner, and Yamaha cap and gave them the same line. They gave me two free dealer caps.

I was thinking for the next time I'd use a pump bottle but hadn't considered how thick it might be. At the time I didn't think I was putting it on too heavy. Just ran a bead across the pleats with light pressure on the bottle to dispense it. Would "slightly" too much oil on the K&N do any harm or should I pull the filters and try to soak some up on a cloth?

What brand is it? We are looking for a Lees-ure Lite for next year.

Dropped the bike off at the dealer this morning for the front tire replacement (E3 $179 + $40 install)...and by the time I got there I had some oil dripping from the air intakes. The mechanic commented that I had put too much on. 1st time I've done the filters so will try to get some extra off when I get the bike tonight.

Bike started fine this morning. Just have just been too much oil on the filter. I'll keep an eye on the fuel pump. Seemed to work fine this morning. Thanks as always to the input received.

Just went out and turned the key and no clicking from the fuel pump. Bumped the side cover and nothing. Didn't try starting the bike. It is about 80F outside and humid and wasn't that long ago that I ran the bike. I'll try it again in the morning before I go to work.

I don't have LED's but since the narrow/wide applies to both... I have GE H7616 bulbs in my passing lights... haven't seen anything brighter. They are narrow beam. I aim them at the same height as my low beam with the left one aimed slightly in (but still left of the headlight beam) and the right one slightly out (towards the shoulder of the road). Very rarely does someone flash their lights at me (and I have them on day and night).

Thanks for the suggestions. Went out, put choke on, turned the key, heard the pump clicking, hit the start... and it started. I had put a Battery Tender on the bike tonight after trying to start it earlier and it showed that it was charging the battery. After our trip I had given the bike a good cleaning and I always run the bike after washing to make sure there is no moisture/condensation in the pipes. The day after washing the bike I also changed the oil so started the bike and let it run for 5 minutes to warm up the oil, changed the oil, then started the bike to make sure the level was okay (only changed oil, not filter). Thinking that these short start/run drained the battery a bit. I don't think I heard the pump earlier and I believe a low battery will prevent the pump from running. So, once I got the bike started, I turned the fuel petcock off and ran the bike until it died. Put the petcock in the ON position and turned key off/on.... didn't hear the pump. I "bumped" the cover over the pump and it started clicking. So... the possible reasons for the bike not starting earlier (even though it was turning over) are : 1) battery was too low to crank the pump => don't think it was this because it had enough juice to turn over the bike and eventually start but ran rough 2) too much oil on air filters => "blocked" air flow may have caused rough running 3) fuel pump on its way out => had no problems during our trip or on the weekend when I washed the bike and changed the oil. The pump not "clicking" tonight still bothers me though The bike is an '09 and I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow to change the front tire (E3 150/80). Was going to see if my left outer/front lower cowling is covered under warranty since the plastic holding the nut for the screw from the inner cowling is broken. May as well test the fuel pump again in a bit and see if it is causing a problem and if it is, will raise that with the dealer as well. Will update again after another test. I will leave the Battery Tender on overnight to make sure I have a full charge and see if the pump is working properly.

The oil bottle I have is not a spray. Instructions say to leave a bead across the ridge of each pleat, which I did.

Turns over and will "barely" catch but dies shortly after. Pipes are getting warm, has fuel in the tank (less than 1/2 tank). Put the battery on a charger to make sure I have a full charge.
