trunk/luggage rack and others
XV1100SE replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I didn't have a chance to measure the width on my trunk this morning...but the Honda spoiler is 20.5" wide. Would this fit as a replacement to the Yamaha wing? -
Other options for Freebird's new site : exventurerider.org is available! partsfalloff.com is available! hdwardrobe.com is available!

Sorry, my mistake....it has been taken since 2012.

Congratulations !

Let me throw this out...something that has been mentioned before. With fork mounted fairing the wind catches the fairing and acts like push steering. The lower deflectors mounted on the forks does help a bit in stabilizing the front. People have mentioned that the 1st Gen's aren't as affected by wind because they have a frame mounted fairing. And yes... the size of the bike from a side profile does catch side winds and will act like a sail.

Was over 3 years old and got 55,000km out of it - 34,000 miles. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see if they have the old one.

Sorry to hear about Sonny. He was a very good cat ! Don and Nancy

Since mine was under warranty I didn't get the pump back. Hope someone can give you one to use. My point was that when the pump starts failing, don't count on it getting you where you want to go. Replace it before it leaves you stranded. Good thing is Dogman's bike showed him there was a problem before he got out of his driveway. Mine restarted after letting it "cool" down and I got it to the shop for replacement. As for a replacement pump, if mine were out of warranty I would consider alternatives. Several people have recommended the Mr Gasket 42S (electronic pump that doesn't let fuel go thru it when key is off). I would consider the aircraft pump but before deciding on which one to go with I'd want to see a long term report on them. Do they out last the OEM pump?

Maybe that is his entire wardrobe? He might have a closet full of them. (keeps his tent poles there too)

I found that it happened again within a couple rides. Once you have a problem...I wouldn't trust it.

Took the bike for a nice ride last night including highway driving... no issues.

Performance Cycle on Beaverdale in Cambridge. After they brought the bike around I spoke with the mechanic (Sam) for about 20 minutes. Nice thing is... he has worked on Yamaha's for 23 years and knows the 1st/2nd Gens.

15 lbs pressure in front tire
XV1100SE replied to bngarner's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Considering the pressure on the front should be 34psi and you were 20psi low.... I'd say yes. Back pressure should be 36psi. (I run 36 front and 40 rear on my RSV) -
That is a very good point. Do you trust the keeper of the data? Could be misused say when a government change occurs...who did you support? Are you Left or Right leaning? etc.

This isn't about a merger of VR.org and a Spyder forum. Its about one rally where to reduce costs of the band/event for people another group might join in for the fun. Chance to meet other people and possibly "convert" them to Ventures. I'm getting the impression that a mix isn't going over too well but this is a WNY function so whatever that group decides is fine with me. If we are free the time the event is held we'll attend whether there are Spyders there or not. This isn't a fraternity either. Yes, the WNY group and the Canadian's in South Western Ontario know each other because of VR.org but who is to say that the WNY and SW Canadian group have to exclude all other non-Venture riders? Lets say that the WNY group becomes a combination of 1st/2nd Gens and Spyders.... is that wrong? I don't think so. I know that group rides often include other Yamaha models, Wings... even Beemer's and Harleys. Nothing wrong with that. VR.org is for Ventures, Tour Deluxe, and Royal Stars. As a resource it should remain FOCUSED on that subject area. There is a Wing section with 7 pages of posts....if an HD section was added it would appeal to members (and site moderators) who own an HD but wouldn't mean that this becomes a HD forum. The Wing section is a way for members who've switched bikes to stay "in the family" and talk about issues with Wing's. I'm sure if they have major issues they go to the Wing site. Thats my comments on this.... up to the WNY group to do whatever they feel like doing. Spyders or not...we'll probably attend either way.

You forgot to say "BOOM!" Almost 3 hours since my post and no comments. This is NOT political, no one has come to interrogate me, VR.org was not shut down (maybe posts to this thread are being blocked by the NSA ?) This isn't about American agencies monitoring all communication. ALL governments do it whether British, Russian, Chinese.... even Canadian ! http://rabble.ca/news/2012/02/threat-big-brother-internet-monitoring-canada http://www.internetsociety.ca/2013/06/11/canadians-need-debate-on-monitoring-of-phone-and-internet/ http://www.ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/how-canadian-internet-users-may-be-getting-caught-in-u-s-surveillance-1.1318910 These are interesting articles to read. I would think that most of us are okay with "them" monitoring communications since most of us are innocent and have nothing to hide. That said...remember that any pictures you post or info you put on sites like Facebook are floating around the Internet forever. Any email you send could be flagged based on content or read by other people.

Changed the filter over the winter....but thanks for the suggestion. I took the bike to the dealer yesterday and they confirmed that the points were unevenly worn and were placing the order with Yamaha Canada to get a new fuel pump. Got a call from the dealer this morning at 10:30 that the bike was done. Took them less than 24 hours and that is with having to order a new pump. I like my dealer ! Picked up the bike at noon and runs great !

For anyone that thinks encryption protects their data or messages, read the article on Wired. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2013/09/nsa-backdoored-and-stole-keys/ Granted that it is the Government (several) that intercepts Internet traffic and for those of us that are law abiding most of us don't really care....but be aware that anything you send or any site you visit can be captured "somewhere" and read by "someone". No wonder they have no problem intercepting messages between terrorists. Back doors built into chips that they can use to access your files, track your movements/gps, listen to your phone calls.....no need to steam open envelopes anymore. George Orwell was years ahead of his time - need to re-read his book 1984. Per Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Brother_(Nineteen_Eighty-Four) ) : In the society that Orwell describes, everyone is under complete surveillance by the authorities, mainly by telescreens. The people are constantly reminded of this by the phrase "Big Brother is watching you", which is the core "truth" of the propaganda system in this state.

Hankook has been developing a new integrated wheel/tire (no tire on the new design) http://www.wired.com/autopia/2013/09/hankook-i-flex/ http://www.worldcarfans.com/113090962648/hankook-introduces-i-flex-airless-wheel-and-tire ...concept of an airless wheel and tire all-in-one. This new type of non-pneumatic tire is made from polyurethane synthetics with its tire being manufactured in conjunction with the rim as a one-piece. Hankook mentions it's considerably lighter than usual wheel + tire combos and does not need air at all. Fuel consumption and noise emissions are down compared to conventional setups, while vehicle safety is increased.... According to Hankook, 95 percent of the i-Flex's construction is recyclable. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1086811_hankook-is-latest-to-roll-out-airless-tire-concept Note, Hankook is working on even more advanced tire technology. Working with researchers from the University of Cincinnati, Hankook has developed an eMembrane tire concept that is capable of transforming its profile through internal structure changes in accordance with different driving conditions, such as in a busy city or on a race track. For instance, when driving at high-speeds, the tire’s tread center extends to generate maximum ground friction through wider ground contact area, aiding grip. Conversely, when driving at low-speeds, the tread is designed to produce minimal road contact area and ground friction, whereby the tire's fuel efficiency is enhanced by reducing rolling resistance. Hope they look at doing motorcycle tires.

From personal experience and as everyone knows.... the Armstrong's are great people.

There has been a post that replacement points MAY be available. Someone was going to replace theirs and test them. For others with pump problems, take a look at your points and see if you are getting uneven wear.
