  1. The Touring Hogs site looks "pretty" but as you said, it doesn't really give us anything extra here. I'm for leaving this forum the way it is, mainly so you don't have to go thru a lot of work rewriting customizations. Updating the software doesn't change the way we interact here.
  2. Had a '99 Virago 1100 SE up until about 2 years ago (hence my handle of XV1100SE which is the Virago model). Miss that bike but after riding the Venture it felt like a toy. Never had a problem with it. Would like to find a Virago like you have for Nancy. Would be perfect for her as a first bike.
  3. Since you've already been thru this once before you know this low is only short term. Getting out of a marriage that you weren't happy in is always the positive. Keep your attitude positive, go with the flow, and around the next corner is your pot of gold.
  4. Best of luck with the surgery!
  5. I checked the OP's profile - listed as a 1992 Venture Can a moderator move this to 1st Gen section?

    Shim Tool

I have a shim tool as well. I'm usually in Oshweken for breakfast Sunday mornings so could meet you and let you borrow mine.
  7. I let my wife get on the bike with the kick stand down. That way you don't worry about your footing or the weight shift as the passenger gets on. I also have the front brake on when she gets on the bike. With the kick stand down and front brake on, the bike isn't going to move on me. If the bike is parked with very little lean on the kick stand I also make sure my feet are well planted. Once she says she is ready (hooked into the intercom, comfortable and settled), then I bring the bike straight up and raise the kick stand.
  8. Might not make a difference but Noel's profile shows that he rides a 1983 venture royale. Noel - you posted this in the 2nd Gen tech area. Either post year/model of bike in your posts or update your signature to include what you ride. See http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58880 for info on how to do it
  9. Somehow I don't think he'll park it in the pond. More than likely moor it on Lake Erie. Easy...ride the bike to the boat. Mind you, owning a HD... he might be used to trailering "things" to where he wants to go. He might end up trailering the boat from home to the lake every time he wants to go out on it.
  10. I tell any passengers that when the bike is moving slow to keep still. I don't take the bike off the side stand until Nancy says that she is ready and she knows to not move around after that until the bike is rolling. I'm lucky, she is light.
  11. This year there was a draw for the cottage at your place for MD...will there be a second draw for the boat for the weekend? :-) Seriously... nice boat !
  12. Freebird should have kept the RSV just to prevent the kidding about Harleys. Been looking at the new site but surprised I haven't seen any articles or posts about how to trailer a Harley. I mean, "touring hog" and "trailer your bike" go together. Sorry Freebird...just kidding with you. The new site looks good and wish you success with it.
  13. Now that I understood.
  14. Double check on restrictions. According to the Auto Train site, there is a maximum of 102 inches in length from front to rear tire edges. 2nd Gen length is 104.5"
  15. Been hearing of more accidents involving bikes. With Fall setting in, be a little more careful out there. - ride with passing lights on and high beam during the day - when stopped or slowing down flash your brakes when vehicles are behind you - pay attention to the position of the sun early in the morning and in the evening. If you are between another vehicle (coming towards you or turning) and the sun they won't see you - as temperatures fall tire pressures fall too. Check your tire pressures - drive within limits of what you can see either during the day or at night. Animals are out and farmers are tracking mud (and other things) onto the roads with farm vehicles Just a friendly reminder to be careful riding.
  16. No experience with them, but as a suggestion check out aerostich.com. Heard about them when we were near Deluth. I haven't bought anything from them but depending on what you are looking for might give you some options.
  17. I'm expecting that there will still be a one day maintenance day for VR.org... just wondering how many days a Harley maintenance day will be. Takes time to trouble shoot leaks and rebuild motors.
  18. "Welcome to Touring Hogs by freebird Published on 11-06-2009 01:00 AM Categories: CMS, Article" So you've been thinking about going to Harley the last 4 years ?
  19. Can we join the new forum and poke fun at the HD riders? Maybe try to convert them? :-) Congratulations on the new forum Don. I'll point some of my Harley friends to the new site. Good luck with it !
  20. May his service in Afghanistan be safe.
