  1. Reminder....back-ups are your friend. Take a back-up before you begin !
  2. That is really cool. Looking forward to following your build. Can't help you with your wiring but definitely like to see your progress.
  3. No matter where you are in the world....when someone helps another pick up their bike, does it matter if the bike is leaning to the left or right? Hmmmmm I tend to follow a wide range of news from Canada, U.S., and the U.K. The numbers are only those that have been tested, there are more untested people wandering the streets - with any test they aren't perfect and some have shown to lean toward giving a positive result, others more to the negative. I practice social distancing and glad that work has put in overkill measures to keep us safe. Here...everyone wears masks in stores and public places without complaining of our rights as an individual. It's the new norm and protects everyone.
  4. Larry ( @Carbon_One) used to make and sell them. You can check with him if he has any left.
  5. You know what they say about kids and pets....when they are quiet....they are up to something.
  6. Wasn't there a recall on the early 2nd Gen Ventures? They added more support under the bottom. Not sure if it would help 20 years later but you could ask a Yamaha dealer to check if yours was part of the recall and if it had been "fixed".
  7. Good choice. They are difficult to find used since people keep them.
  8. Happy birthday !
  9. With the trailer you don't even notice it is back there. Check specs on trailers though and get something like the Leisure-Lite. Full size tent trailer can be pulled but they are quite heavy. Go for one of the smaller ones. Gives you a good amount of storage and gets you off the ground.
  10. Were you able to get at the bolt? Easiest way....loosen the trunk and move it back one hole. Will also give your passenger a little more room. For two of the bolts you'll need nuts for them....but one time move and accomplish a lot !
  11. With my Clearview....I believe they are slightly thicker than the OEM. Even with the OEM the screws tend to loosen. What I have done is go to a slightly longer screw. Seems to stay tighter and not loosen.
  12. Changing the coolant is almost as easy as doing an oil change. And...if removing the tank to refill with new coolant....check/change plugs
  13. I do my coolant every 3 years. Have had the bike 10 years and have not changed the cap or thermostat... As for what coolant to use... (I use the Prestone 50/50 mix) https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?84331-coolant https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?136643-Recommend-coolant-for-motorcycles Might want to skim thru this thread on maintenance : https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?116678-Quick-initial-maintenance-question-for-new-RSV-owner
  14. Plugs have been discussed many times. This thread from 2012 was good - https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?44449-Which-spark-plugs-to-use&highlight=iridium One comment in that thread was "rumour" that the iridium tips could break off.
  15. Just noticed you put this in the 1st Gen section. What year is your bike?
  16. Fuel filter or pump. If you don't hear clicking when you turn the key on it is the pump. If it clicks when you start the bike but while riding under load it is "starving" for fuel or the engine cuts out then it could still be your fuel pump. For pump - one "fix" is to replace the points. Other is to replace. For filter, there is a write-up in the read only section. It is in an awkward location.
  17. I certainly hope so !
  18. From https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?103948-2nd-Gen-main-fuse-location....djh3 - "Main fuse is located left side under the side cover and behind the left floorboard. Dont just visual the fuse, check it with an OHM meter." From Vzuden - "Pull off the left passenger foot board and the plastic cover behind it. The starter solenoid and fuse are located there." Further from djh3 - "When you get the floorboard off and that plastic cover off the fuse is sort of hidden behind the solinoid."
  19. Old enough to remember singing God Save the Queen ?
  20. If you want to see what and when updates were applied... - beside the Windows icon bottom left, type "windows updates" in the search field - click on "View update history" - click on "Uninstall updates" You can sort by "Installed On" date. The list is sorted by application. Scroll to the bottom to see what Windows updates have been applied and when. If you do a Google search for the KB (eg KB4565351) you can see what that patch was for. Left click on the one you want to uninstall, then right click on it and choose "Uninstall". It is rare for an update to cause an issue so I think there is some other underlying issue. Some times it will replace a vendor's drivers with a Microsoft version and I have seen this cause issues with printer drivers. You can also run the Windows troubleshooter...see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028430/windows-10-use-a-fix-it-tool#:~:text=Instead%20of%20fix-it%20tools%2C%20Windows%2010%20uses%20troubleshooters,want%20to%20do%2C%20then%20select%20Run%20the%20troubleshooter. To stop auto updates see https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-updates-installing-automatically-windows-10
  21. Depending on how your network is set up..... Check the ip address of the server and the workstation. They should all be pretty close....eg 192.168.2.###. IF you have a network that is segmented (using vlans - and if you don't understand what I'm referring to then you probably don't) might be a different issue. On the workstations....go into the computer properties and look at the "Domain". Should match with the domain the server is on. From the workstations, can you "ping" the server? .... and server to workstations? Just a start.....
  22. Carl....it is your fault. Don't ass-ume that they do what you would do!
  23. Canadians don't approve or condone the way he has treated people or his attitude. I directed people to VR.org and got banned. If people that come here from "his" facebook page it is up to them if they want to join and pay $12USD for the camaraderie, technical articles and assistance, and the opportunity to banter with the likes of Marcarl and Cowpuc. I wasn't trying to lessen the number of members he has in his group but if the info isn't available there to help out other RSTD/RSV riders you direct them where it is. Get banned for this ?? And the way he has attacked people for disagreeing with him.....NOT the Canadian way.
  24. I work at the Toyota plant in Cambridge and Woodstock Ontario where we make the RAV4 (previously also made the Corolla) and Lexus RX350. I work in the I.S. department, not on the floor. When you look at the list of defects per 100 vehicles, Genesis (Hyundai) is at the top of the list (as in best, not worst). Kia/Hyundai beat Nissan, Acura, Honda, Mercedes..... Big difference from when they introduced the Pony. https://www.autonews.com/retail/genesis-buick-tops-vehicle-dependability-jd-power-survey-says I'll admit I am biased but my choice in brands would be Toyota - for quality, dependability, resale value.
  25. Hopefully this thread has been a good reminder to everyone to be careful out there and hopefully someone learned from the tips posted. Remember you can't be too careful. Be careful, observe everything, don't assume people see you, have an escape route at all times, prepare to hit the brakes hard (be wary of the surface you are on), expect the unexpected.
