  1. This is one way to get familiar with the 2nd Gen !
  2. I use Rotella T6 for oil now. Canadian Tire price is $42... but at Walmart in Buffalo it is 1/2 that price. Seafoam is much cheaper in the States too - $13 here, $9 there. General stuff like plugs you can get anywhere. For air filters....I went to K&N's when my Yamaha dealer was out of stock on OEM but they had a set of K&N. Don't have to replace them, just clean and go. When I replaced my fuel filter I went OEM from the local dealer. Some people use an automotive filter. Keep in mind that we get a 15% discount from Pioneer Motorsport in Chaffee, NY (close to BongoBob's). Watch the exchange rate though because it can make the dealer pricing close enough to buy local.
  3. I second that I was worried that it might be a health issue for someone in your family. Although you were considering divorce, I'm glad that the two of you have resolved enough of the issues to renew your vows. Hopefully both of you have seen what could happen if you follow down the old road. Communication is key. As for MD.... if you hadn't said you want your vow renewal to include a handful of people... I would think renewing your vows during MD would be amazing ! Although.... a non-stressful summer is what the two of you could use.... get out on the boat and relax !
  4. Vicious Cycle in New Dundee has Stebel horns IN STOCK. For anyone in the area looking for a Stebel, give them a try. I picked up a couple today after ordering online last night. If you order something from them online, there is no option to pick up in store but fill in the comment at the end and put in that you want to pick up at their store. They won't charge your credit card until you pick up. $59 for black, add $4.50 for chrome. I am not affiliated with them but so far am a happy customer. http://aviciouscycle.ca/MainPages/Default.aspx
  5. Glad to hear things are coming together for you !
  6. On the 2nd Gen... what size and brand of tires are you running? I found the OEM Bridgestones were more affected than the Dunlop E3's. Some people have gone to a narrower front but have mentioned that it is affected by the road conditions. Tire pressures affect the handling as well (I run 36 front, 40 rear). If my front pressure drops to 34 it is a noticeable change in handling and feels like the front is wandering. Steering head needs to be checked too. Too loose and handling will be affected. Check the tech section on how to check and adjust. Okay.... back to the topic of the thread.... I have been using the stock windshield and I am 6' tall, Nancy is 5'3". She doesn't complain about wind buffeting... but then again she does say if she looks forward all she sees is the back of my helmet. You'll find a common comment for 2nd Gens is that the passenger often falls asleep. One of the reasons I got Carbon One's armrests is to make sure Nancy doesn't fall off ! I can't compare to a 1st Gen but know the 2nd Gen is very comfortable.
  7. I bought a pair of SWAT boots a couple of years ago and they have stood up very well and are definitely waterproof. Because of how comfortable they were, when I was due for new boots for work I got a pair of "green patch" SWAT boots. If you are looking for a quality, light weight boot that you can wear all day check out http://www.originalswat.com/us_en/products/by-feature/where/technology/safety-toe_waterproof_slip--to-resistant.html
  8. Happy birthday!!!!

    last day

    Congratulations !
  10. I have a Utopia back rest on my '09 RSV. Never had any problems with it.
  11. And another one bites the dust. Carl...anything you'd like to update us on ?
  12. But here's a great opportunity for someone to complete their set of 1st Gens. Anyone not have an 84 or 87 should be all over this !
  13. I just step thru, putting my right foot thru over top of the drivers seat - in front of the back rest. When I get off I do the same in reverse. When Nancy gets on the bike, she steps on the left passenger floorboard and steps thru behind the back rest. Getting off she pushes the backrest forward if I get off first, or reverses the way she mounts.
  14. Happy birthday !
  15. I have the Zumo 660 and the BuddyRich cable..... works great !
  16. I upgraded to the K&N"s as well. When it was time to replace my air filters the local Yamaha dealer didn't have the OEM filters but they did have the K&N....and the price wasn't that much more.
  17. Position of the clutch is important. Some people have posted that with leather wraps on them with the "streamers" that the cruise cuts out...wind puts pressure on the clutch and pushes it in enough to disengage. The other thing about cruise... it won't let you engage it if you are over a certain speed. If you were able to set it and then went down hill it might have put you over the "allowed" speed. I believe it is also engaged using a vacuum. If you were able to keep it engaged in 4th but it cuts out in 5th.... don't think a vacuum issue would be the cause.
  18. Don't know how this ended up under videos...could just be in the General Discussion area. Paint codes - http://www.venturerider.org/paint/PaintChartRef___00001.html (page 22 for '87) You'll see a Search drop down on the bar towards the top of the screen. Towards the bottom of the pop-up window you'll see "Google Search". Type in what you are looking for and click on the VentureRider radio button, then the Google Search button. That makes it easy to find what you are looking for.
  19. You didn't mention visiting Canada... but if you are in Upper NY State in the Buffalo area there are several members in that area plus many in South Western Ontario. Post your planned route with some dates and members will respond. A year touring.... lucky you !
  20. Wish you luck with the surgery.
  21. Its your fault Tom. If you hate snow so much, why do you live where you do ???
  22. Our condolences. Don and Nancy
  23. I think Wayne likes the MM's.
  24. I have a compressor and plug kit (both were recommended here - would have to look to see what brand). I've never used a plug kit and not sure I'd know what to do with it ... but I have it just in case. If you are going the air compressor route, you shouldn't use the accessory outlet on the fairing. Add a cigarette lighter outlet connected to the battery (with a proper size fuse) or splice into the accessory plug under the drivers seat (on 2nd Gen). There is a pop-out plug on the left side of the bike below the drivers seat. The lighter I put on the bike was only a few dollars and isn't waterproof but I've never had any issues with it. Where the plug is is in a relatively protected area.
