  1. Sorry to hear about her passing. Our condolences to the family. Don and Nancy
  2. Hope you, your wife, and the bike are unscathed.
  3. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/kuryakyn-clear-turn-signal-lens-replacements-yamaha-v-star-road-star-royal-star-models-99-11/part/KY-2266 Also... my '09 RSV has clear lenses that are OEM.
  4. Sorry to hear you sold your Venture. Did you replace it with something or just getting out of bikes ? Wish you luck in the future.
  5. That sounds like a really good deal. You could also take off the '99 anything you added that you want to keep. The new bike could look different than the '99 depending on how you bling it out. Or.... Rumour is that there is a new touring bike coming out from Yamaha next year, or the year after that, or the year after that. :-) Still... $14,900 is a good price. If a new model is released, you could probably sell the '12 for what you pay for it.
  6. Hope everyone in Mississippi (12 members), Alabama (34), and Tennessee (44) are and stay safe.
  7. Different GPS but... I have the Zumo and it comes with a RAM mount that has and electrical connection on it for the GPS. It also has cables built into it that you run into the fairing. The BuddyRich cable goes between GPS cables and the mic/input of the bike. I can bluetooth sync my phone to the Zumo and make/receive phone calls, listen to mp3's from the Zumo thru my headset... I only have to put the Zumo in the RAM mount and that is it. No cables to connect.
  8. Congratulations !
  9. Congratulations !
  10. When I sold my '99 Virago it went quickly too. It was pristine and I sold it for $3700. Shortly after I saw the same year going for $5000 but not in as good of shape (mind you, they sat unsold for a while). I could have second guessed my price, but I sold it for what I thought it was worth (and the money came in handy at the time). Price it too high and you have to wait for the right person to come along that will pay that much. If it goes quickly but you get what you think is a fair price, then be happy. Value is in the mind's eye. But don't sell it for less than you think it is worth. People will try to low ball you.
  11. From his profile try sending him an email rather than a PM or calling him. His phone number is listed in his profile. For his email address see http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=577399&postcount=4 . I'd contact him before sending money.
  12. If you haven't sync'ed the carbs, possible previous owner didn't either. As a suggestion, you should check your steering head too - won't affect the issue you posted about but will affect handling.
  13. Couple suggestions and questions.... - run a 1/2 can of Seafoam thru the gas as a starting point When was the last time you sync'ed your carbs? What gear are you in when you are doing 80 and trying to accelerate? What is your favourite colour ? (had to throw that in for the Monty Python fans)

  16. This is a manufactured hitch but you can see the parts. Click on the picture beside the "Yamaha Midnight Venture 2006" http://www.dmcsidecars.com/hitches/hitches-for-yamaha/ Consider where the safety chains connect to the hitch. You want them accessible and not tucked under the fender. The hitch above looks like it has an "eye" to attach the chains but I don't think one mounting point would be a good idea. If you spread them out or put them on either side of the receiver would probably be better for stability in event of a failure. I have an R-Mark hitch and when you remove the ball end there is very little visible of the receiver. http://r-markventures.blogspot.ca/2009/09/yamaha-royal-star-venture-tour-deluxe.html Larry (Carbon One) makes a lot of great products and has a hitch. If you look at the pictures you can see what little of the receiver shows on a "normal" hitch. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3919&title=rsv26amp-3b-rstd-trailer-hitch&cat=24
  17. I'd 2nd the vent in the windshield. They are adjustable so you can go from closed to fully open. That might change the "pocket". Are you going to MarCarl's in May ?
  18. Some of the deciding factors have been listed but the major deciding factor is..... are you riding solo ? I've gone to maintenance day before solo and stayed in a hotel and another time camped at Freebirds. Riding solo and hoteling it for a few days, the saddlebags/trunk/trunk bag is fine. When camping and carrying a tent/sleeping bag/ground mats/stove... best way is to pull a trailer and don't overload the bike. When the wife goes with you on a multi-day trip.... trailer is required without question. When Nancy and I did our four week trip West last summer I set the ground rule that we would each take five days worth of clothes and use laundry facilities every four or five days. That helped to keep things in perspective and limit how many clothes we carried. Put together what you think you will need.... then take out 10-20%. People always take too much. For riding gear, multiple types of gloves (cool weather, full leather, fingerless), comfortable riding boots that are water proof, and a jacket that has thermal and rain liners that are easily removed. We both have Tour Master jackets and not having to pack multiple jackets saves a lot of room.

  20. So... it was an average ride with Carl...

  22. I painted my Harbor Freight trailer. Roughen the surface before painting so that the paint bonds to the surface.
