  1. Did you take a picture? Usually if I see something on a Venture that I like and consider for my ride, I take a picture.
  2. Don't keep sunglasses or tinting glasses in the bub pocket. I did this last summer and the heat/humidity messed up the coating. I had to replace my prescription sunglasses.
  3. Not shown on a Venture and has one pocket... but my Hopnel is similar to this http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/hopnel-carbon-fiber-tuxedo-ties-yamaha-royal-star-venture/part/BBP-Y60-101CF Few other options here - http://www.westendmotorsports.com/tankfender-bibs-royal-star-venture-c-303_340_1219_3527.html

    Sad News

Here's the article - http://blog.al.com/breaking/2014/05/2_confirmed_dead_in_new_hope_w.html The bike pulled out in front of the car.
  5. Glad you got a tire on it before the weekend...hopefully weather is good for riding. Going to be partly cloudy and only 11C tomorrow, 15C on Sunday, and 18C on Monday. Frost warning tonight...2C overnight. Was 28C earlier in the week. Oh well.... Victoria Day weekend, can't expect perfect weather ! What tires are you riding on? Hopefully the tire that went flat was nearing end of its life. If you still had the OEM Bridgestones then it isn't much of a loss. Last couple tires I've used are Dunlop E3's and very happy with them.
  6. I would think even taking the VIN to a dealer they could look it up and cut a couple Yamaha keys
  7. If you have an '08...when was the bike originally purchased? Warranty is 5 years from date first sold.
  8. Anyone know where Chris is ? He hasn't updated this in almost 2 months.
  9. I'm missing something.... I thought rain was for washing the bike?
  10. Because the plastic is all ABS... use an ABS cement. I had a broken tab in my lower cowling and Crazy Glue didn't hold as well as ABS cement. For repairs... if the tab is reasonably intact then you can use abs cement to put it back in place. Some abs cement pushed into cracks will strengthen it. For filling in missing parts you can get some abs pipe from a hardware store and either shave or sand it to mix in with abs cement - making more of a putty - to fill in the gaps. If you've used loctite anywhere else on the bike, you should inspect plastic in the area. Even the fumes from loctite will eat away the abs.
  11. Did anyone see the video on CNN ? http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/us/2014/05/14/dnt-motorcycle-crashes-into-suv-caught-on-camera.kctv&hpt=hp_c3&from_homepage=yes&video_referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F%3Frefresh%3D1
  12. I've been with Riders Plus which uses Echelon for bike insurance. My rate this year is exactly the same as last year - to the penny. In Ontario, you can't insure a bike for the riding season (7-8 months) but have to pay for a 12 month policy. My insurance is $1,200 a year. No changing it to a "storage" policy.
  13. Nice when a company backs their product. Glad it worked out for you
  14. Sorry to see the mess. Sounds like you are on top of it and hopefully the water level goes down soon.
  15. Hope everything works out for you ! Good luck with the new job !
  16. Did a search in the forum and a couple things/posts stood out : => "improperly installed spacers in the final drive housing. Mine was found to have this issue. The tech pulled mine apart, found the grommets that hold the spacers were not seated correctly, liberally lubed everything and put it all back together." => related to "chirping" => "clean and lube the rear drive pins and one more thing that isn't usually done... align the rear axle by shimming the diff to left swingarm connection. Another member had his RSV in to a dealer and the tech had done this and I had wanted to try it. There is a bulletin HERE (http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=15576&postcount=1) on how to align the rear axle but at the point where it's aligned but before you tighten the 4 acorn nuts I measured the gap and made a shim. Otherwise, when you tighten the nuts it pulls the entire wheel/diff assembly to the left and puts it in a bind. Mine had almost a .040" gap. I can't say for sure the shimming fixed or helped the noise but it was all gone when I was done. May be worth the effort for someone else to try."
  17. Rotella T6 is a 5W-40 full synthetic. Rotella T is probably the 15W-40 you tried and I don't believe it is synthetic. Yamaha lists 20W-50 above 5C/40F and 10W-40 below 15C/60F Walmart (U.S.) lists T6 for $21 ($43 in Canada - can you believe that !) It won't fix your whine though. Best to try the "I" basket.
  18. If you are thinking of going with braided lines, check out SKU: STR-4XY48-10-SD Price: 96.95 (Yamaha Canada price) boats.net has them for $73
  19. This is from the delphiforums site : Yamaha "I" Clutch Basket #: 4XY-16150-09 http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/ya...150-09-00.html $282 A thread I started in 2012 - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=74730 See http://www.venturerider.org/modules/...threadid=20185 Note from this link : "Part # 4xy-16150-09-00 was on the box here is my sick part Number on the actual basket is 26H01 T-3." Along the outer area of the basket you'll see a letter stamped in the metal. You want the one that has an "I". ** good picture in this thread of a "G" basket http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=42428
  20. When was the coolant changed last on the Venture ? That might help. Could be your thermostat too. 1AE-12410-00 thermostat assy (parts catalogue - 05:water pump - item 26) As for synthetic oils... have you tried Rotella T6 ? Swapping the RSTD clutch basket - from what I've read, the letter on the basket changed pretty much every year. The "I" basket probably started with the 2008 models. Your RSTD is older than that so you'll probably find it is a "G" (or somewhere around there). Don't think swapping the two will do the trick.
  21. Congratulations !
  22. Another thread started the other day talking about clutch whine. I posted a link to one source and details on the clutch basket. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=86055
  23. Read thru this post too - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70866 Parts diagram -you want page 36:Steering Handle and Cables Cables are : 1D6-26311-00 Cable, Throttle 1 1D6-26312-00 Cable, Throttle 2 Edit - sorry... link to parts catalog won't work. You'll have to go to the Yamaha site and go to page 36 yourself.
  24. I did a search....there is a write up on installing throttle cables http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=698593#post698593 You might consider braided cables....
