Exhaust pipes
Vonwolf replied to titansedriver's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Great question titansedriver thanks. I know a hole in automotive exhausts will cause a popping back fire when you let off the gas and thats one problem I'm having with my 87. I thought I found the problem with these holes but they did look too uniform to be a coincidence so not the problem I guess, I'll have to look elswere. Thanks Pete -
Repair 8 Pin Amp/Radio Connector @ Wire Harness
Vonwolf replied to Vonwolf's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Ya that looks like the only way to go, I can get the crimped part at the insulation off OK but there is no way I'll ever get the wire un-crimped? it's just too tight. So soldering is the only way to go. It's just so hot out I doubt I'll need a soldering iron. I still have to try Radio Shack to see if I can buy the small connector's individually who knows I might get lucky. Pete -
Repair 8 Pin Amp/Radio Connector @ Wire Harness
Vonwolf replied to Vonwolf's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I knew there had to be a way to get the individual wire connectors out of the larger plastic housing. The small metal connectors plug unto the housing and have a 1 way catch. You just stick a tooth pick in the end between the plastic latch and the metal connector and it pulls right out. Now all I need to do is try to reuse the small wire connectors by some how undoing the factory crimping or finding new ones. -
My 87 RSV project is close to winding down, as you all know it'll never end but it looks acceptable and run's good so I'm happy. I got the Bike kinda cheap but it was missing allot of the electronics and never owning a Touring bike before I figured who Needs a radio, it's a bike? Well I need help with the radio actually the female 8 pin main audio connector in the left side Faring. The white plastic female 8 pin connector on the bikes Wiring harness was cut off. I have the connector but I don't know if there is a way to reuse it or if I can get one from some where that will plug into the male 8 pin connector from the Tuner/Amp unit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I still have lots of questions about this electronics that I find I just can't live with out but one thing at a time. Thanks Pete (I reposted this here in hope that a answer will come from a electronic form)

Any chance of finding these parts?
Vonwolf replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
They turn up on Ebay all the time I got one for around $15 -
I can't tell you how great it will be to have this .pdf, great Idea SaltyDog! I've been trying to put a Royal back together after the previous owner parted out most of the electronics. I've never even seen a Venture or owned a touring bike so I'm kind of flying blind so like I said big help. Thanks Pete

Sinc. carbs but have problem
Vonwolf replied to Vonwolf's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have 3 of the cut off valves but didn't know what they were for, makes sense now, I'll try to get a 4th valve and hope for the best. Thanks for the great advise -
Hi; I haven't seen this problem before so here goes. I got a cheap 87 VR 1300, the bike runs OK but rough ran Seafome thru it changed plugs. It helped a Little but still very rough Idle and back firing some manly on deceleration. I decided to sync. the carbs. Problem is the bike runs so rough the vacuum gages bounce so fast you cant see then, they just vibrate in a range of about 1/3 the gage blindingly fast? I have a sinking feeling its the valves are out of adjustment some thing fierce but thats just a guess. I'm hoping some one here is familiar with this condition and can give me a hand, any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Pete

Starter Switch
Vonwolf replied to clint_1985's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi clint_1985; I'm having the same problem, can you give me a hint how you got to the switch, I guess I have to take the whole throttle assembly apart (yuk). Were you able to get the throttle cables with out taking the throttle cables off the carbs? Any tips would be appreciated. Looks like I'm in the market for a new Rt. Throttle assembly for a 87 Venture mines kind of faded so if anyone has one let me know. Thanks Pete -
scoot covers
Vonwolf replied to painterman67's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I live in SW Florida and unfortunately no garage. The sun burnt through a cheap E-bay cover in 3 or 4 month's. I got one of the heavy 2 layer ones with silver on the top twords the sun and I really like it, the cheap black ones don't last very long. But like Condor said they are light and good for the road. 1st Gen parts
Vonwolf replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Bob; I need a control unit for a 87 cruise control, a CLASS control unit and the left faring panel insert, just the base piece that holds the speaker, vent and radio. If you have any of these let me know. Thanks Pete -
I have a 87 and the worst noise I have is from the Rear Brake Disk, the rivets are loose as all get out and it makes a lot of rattling noise. Its a strange sound so you might want to check the rivets and make sure they aren't rattling around on you. Pete

That is a great site! I wish I lived closer because I could use a lot of those parts. Most of that bike looks better than mine when I first naively bought it. Thanks to this site I'm learning more about these touring bikes, I like it much more than I thought I would. Now I want my bike to have all these bell's & whistles that I thought were useless a fue month's ago. -
Hi Randy; I don't want to steal this thread but on both Rotors outer disks can move side to side from the Hub. It quite loose at the rivets and just kind of flops side to side about 1/8 of a inch, their tight front to back. Oh well back to topic, their hard to find on Ebay. The front rotors are all over but the rear rotors are hard to find, if you do find on their usually cheap like $60 to $70. Make sure the rivets are tight, mine stop the bike OK but the rattling is very irritating and for all I know they might come apart when I really need them. Seem like a really poor design. Good Luck, Pete

Hi; Is this normal? I got a 2nd one off Ebay and it rattles too. It seem to work ok but is this the begining of the end for the Disks or is this no big deal? Anyway if this is normal I can sell my Backup cheap. Let me Know Thanke Pete

Then the snow birds come down and use us for target Practice. But who cares there slow and easy to confuse so its kinda entertaining. One other thing is the States long so it takes forever to get to the South Parts where everythings at but its worth the ride. Come On Down Vonwolf
