GOOD OIL FILTER a 1st Gen Venture?
buddy replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Popeye, Before my cycle dealer -Eddie retired, I used HifloFiltro #HF 146. So I went with Wix #24933 also comes with both oil rings if needed.Get it from O'Reilly Auto Parts for about 6.99 When I need one ,I call the guys and tell them to get me one and its there the next day. Each time I change the filter it still in good shape. Switched back to Castrol 20w50/summer 10w40/winter, so far doing great. buddy -
Hey Thom, I have the same thing here, looked at some of the stuff from Tx. not to long ago and Said I was about 45mi away.RedRiver from my house is 75mi.?Guess Tx moved across the river. buddy

Bill if I had the money I would buy it from you .I loved the way you set it up - NICE.And it did great up in Eureka Springs too,WOW you handled it like a racing bike.... Anybody looking for a Excellent cared bike here's your chance at one.Bill you still have your other toys as well. Anybody that knows Bill knows his bikes are in top shape from the get go,I'd drive it across country with not a worry in the world. Think I'll go cry now. buddy

I been wondering how the Second Gen. would handle curves and hairpin roads and I have to say I was really impressed with their handling when we were in Eureka Springs. These bikes did great hanging with the First Gen. in the curves, heck some of them were even making sparks fly, COOL. And not one lost control of these big beast. So I have to say is when it comes time when I able to buy another bike it will be a Second Gen. Then I'll have the First & Second Gen.Ventures in the garage. buddy

rear diff questions
buddy replied to RustyRecycledToy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The vibration is due to the wheel being off the floor, angle of the swingarm is putting a load on your u-joint.So at high rpm's you will get a slight shimmy or vibration. Was the drive line lubed on both ends ? What type of gear oil was used in the final drive? As for your whining from your final drive? sounds as if you have something in a bind, loosen up all your bolts - axle nut -final drive nuts turn the wheel by hand several times while the system is loose and see if this helps you.Tighten everything back up,But tighten the final drive unit to the swingarm last, then see how it does.over tightening the axle will also cause a whining sound. As for your brake pads,do as Squeeze said sand down your brake pads,it won't take much and it will save your rotor from over heating. Also make sure your washer/spacer on your axle is between the wheel and caliper bracket if it is not this will cause the brakes to drag too. Don't ask me how I know that part:whistling: buddy -
Jim, Sorry for your crash and crushed leg. We're glad your still here with us big Jim. Your in our prayer's and keep us up todate on your status. Thanks for letting us know, and if you need anything give us a shout. buddy

If you have a Harbor freight store in your area, get one from there around $4.99-$6.99 mine is yellow in color.I been using it for my Venture plus I keep it in the tool kit on trips.Works great and does the same service as the high dollar ones. buddy

Welcome Nonextant, As for your sway? What brand of tire you have, some brand of tires are junk when it comes to groves in the road or road snakes, best tires for this is Avon am41 am42 - Dunlop Elite 3 -Michellin Commanders - Dunlop Elite 2 if any left-are the Ones I love most. Also check your swingarm bearings,if not adjusted right the swingarm will allow the rear tire to roam around like a drunk peson sitting behind you.The adjuster for this is behind the right passenger foot bracket assembly. You will see a big nut with a allen head bolt, loosen nut up and turn the bolt in untill you get a snug fit, retighten nut and see if this helps any. Being a 84 might be best to go in and regrease all you swingarm beargings - bushings - check wheel bearings - lube drive line assembly. As for being fast The 83-85 Venture's jump right out there with the others real easy.My 83 if I push it really hard I could easily pull the front tire off the ground,0-70 in a heart beat.Plus being a bullet proof motor ,these babies will go over 200,000 miles if taken care of. Your carbs. sounds as if you have a vacuum leak ,best thing is to pull them out and clean them out good also check your gas tank for rust this will cause the carbs to leak fuel too. list goes on and you will get pleanty of help here too. Welcome to the Family. I know it does not sound good maintance that is,but its worth it really it is. We just came back from Eureka Springs Ark. meet, and the bike did excellent for us.Best ride I ever had.Two up pulling a trailer doing 75mph down freeway 40-42 mpg. buddy

Rate of failure?
buddy replied to RustyRecycledToy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Only time I ever heard of the middle gear going out is when younger guys tring to burn the tires like racing bikes or running high rpm on the engine then popping the clutch.other than that these engine will run forever if taken care of,myself i would not worry about it. buddy -
rear diff questions
buddy replied to RustyRecycledToy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ed keep us up to date on your Gold Beast. If your doing your own tire use (Lemon pledge spray) for setting the tire on rim works great plus no mess either, also keeps bead from sticking to rim on next tire change too.Sorry I'll be quite now. buddy -
rear diff questions
buddy replied to RustyRecycledToy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Forgot to add, The rear caliper bracket - on mine the bracket was sticking on the sliding pin causing a bind on the wheel which caused it to drag and get sorry gas mileage too. buddy
