WOOHOO Glad you made it home OK Bill, I know you will love your new ride and Your better half will Love it even more due to the seating and back rest. Peg said its like sitting in a Lazy Boy for her on Long trips, but she has not went to sleep riding yet . I talked to few Ladys who have fallen asleep on the back seat of the Wing while going on long trips. Once you get the chance give us some photos of both of you with your new ride. Hope to see you soon untill then have fun Bill. Buddy

Who has the highest mileage 1st Gen?
buddy replied to safetyguy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The motors in these Ventures are by far the most famous motors around. The V4 motor made the famous and deadly V-Max!!!!.Has the best warranty in the motorcycle world 5yrs unlimited mileage warranty. The Motor is not consider broken in untill it reaches 100,000 miles, also been known to reach 260,000 miles!!!!. the more you push the motor in the red zone the stronger they get!!!!. known world wide as the bullet proof motor. Nick name for the Venture is THE BEAST or the Terminator. Reason being is in 1983 Yamaha made the first and the deadliest Venture to date the 83's have no rev limit allowing the motor to smoke the touring world in its day. Its a danger zone for other motorcycles once the V4 motor opens up and hits the red when it does there's no stopping it.!!!!! 1983 Venture 88,688 miles Buddy -
Your photos is the set I have on my 83 venture. the boards in the photo must have the cross bar or they will not work at all!!! The cross bar is what holds the front half of the board in place as where the Yamaha boards bolts right on the crash bars I think and the rear half uses the bolts from your foot peg assembly. The last photo shows the unit all together, The cross bar uses the same bolt that holds the crash bars in place and the rear half uses the bolts from your foot peg assembly all direct fit will only work one way.. 83-85 Venture models can use the 86-up boards by adding spacers and longer bolts for direct fit. But the 83-85 model boards will not fit the 86-up model. Buddy

WooHoo Dan, I knew you could do it!!! Glad things are doing good on your end. Hope to see you and your bike soon my friend...Wish I could make it to Freebird's this June but work is in the way. So I hope you get to make it for us instead, eat plenty for me and give Wildhair39 a big hug for me too:). Boy I sure do miss see everybody... P.S. Photos please.... Buddy -
One thing Bill, Make sure you use the cruise control... If not you will find yourself doing 85-90mph easy... This engine is so smooth you will not know it untill you look at the speedometer.... I have to use the cruise or I'll be doing 80 real easy.... And be careful on the throttle. I know you have racing bikes - that would eat up most anything around!!, So Don't be fooled because this is a touring bike. This Wing will make you loose your grip real quick if your not careful. You also might be surprised to see that your new Wing will be pretty close to your Yamaha's in the curves as well, I sure was. My Wing does just as good as my 83 beast!!! Don't get me wrong I love my 83 beast very much and its staying for good!!!!!But these Newer Wings are way better than the older models. OK enough said will See you soon my friend but untill then send us some photos..... P.S. Bill check your coolant over flow bottle when you get there. On the left side of bike behind the side cover by driver foot peg. After getting home I found mine to be empty and found out later from the dealer that they come that way from the factory, my dealer droped the ball on that part but not major. Buddy

Last I talked to Cindi in Eureka Springs she had 9 rooms left but that was back in April. So if anybody is planing on staying with us? best bet is to get a room set this week. Tell them your with venturerider.org to get the discount rate.... Dandy1 tell Cindy we said Hi.... Hope to see you both soon. Buddy

For someone who has not been on a motorcycle in some time I would say 400mi per day would be the max - before asking someone to help pry yourself off the motorcycle seat. Take your time and enjoy the ride and listen to your motorcycle as it runs down the hwy , one of the best sounds around is the road singing under your feet. Have fun and don't get in a hurry or you will not enjoy the ride at all. Take some monkeys butt powder or regular baby powder and use it on your legs and back side this will help on the butt burn. Buddy

Seems you & me will be riding twins in Eureka Springs , Same color and package. But I will wait about putting on any chrome for now. The Venture has the chrome package and just about burned out keeping it all chromed up. Living here in the country on a gravel does not help keeping the chrome nice and shiny. With hardy any chrome on the Wing its a lot easier to keep clean. Yes the Wing has a low center of gravity and turning in parking lots are a breeze. your going to Love it I sure do, and the Wing should be a breeze on those Eureka Springs roads too.... I can go 210mi before the low fuel light comes on. I'm getting around 40-42 MPG at 70mph. Peg loves the seating and I love the handling of the bike. Don't get us wrong we love the venture very much, but due to our bodies we had to go with something that would benefit the both of us on long trips. Pegs back and my Knees... Buddy

Reason I bought the Wing is due to my wifes back!!! The Wing gives a full back suport for my wife and thats the main reason, yes we Love the Venture as well but it is some what top heavy for me and my knees to where the Wing is more balanced. If it was not for my wifes back the Venture would be in our garage. I ride the 83 Beast to work every night, but there are times I need to take break and use the Wing to rest my knees but the beast is staying in my garage for sure. To each his own for what motorcycle he or she wants... I donot care what ride you have just as long you feel good and have fun ridding!!! Buddy

A fellow worker has a V-Star 1300 fuel injection silver/gray for sale with only 1,300mi for 9,850.00 . So I posted it in classified for him he has no Internet at this time. Motorcycle is in excellent shape and still looks new. Reason for selling it is due to the wife not liking the seating for long trips he loves the ride but to please the wife he needs to sell it and buy another motorcycle for long trips. If your looking for a fairly new motorcycle at a good price this is the one!!! buddy

Yep been there done that. Peg sat on the Goldwing and the rest is history. She loves the seating and I Love the handling. We bought the basic Goldwing package dint want the payments to be too high. We will add the CB before the Eureka Springs meet. We went to my familys get together yesterday and I asked Peg which bike she wanted to ride?GoldWing or Venture. Peg said she will not ride the Venture on long rides anymore. We love the Venture but the Wing offers more room and full back suport for Peggys back which is the main thing to me right now!.Giving Peggy the best ride - Goldwing won it hands down. After installing the Highway Pegs on the Wing I have no trouble going all day if need be, best ride I had in a very long time. Bill go for it if thats what you want besides you need to make Momma happy too!!! Buddy

WOW, 5,000 coming up. Just think where we were 2yrs ago, Or before the crash WOW. Yep we must be good, to be getting this many new members. Freebird see what you started!!!!!!! Instead of selling your place due to the yard being to big you might want to buy a town to hold all of our new members when they come up for your maintenance day.. Who would've thought the family getting this big? WOW Nice very Nice......... Won't be long our road side help list will be turned into a book.. Yep this is the best forum on the Internet for sure.... First off we do not mind what brand of bike you have, as long your having fun with us. Yes we tease each other a lot about our bikes but its all in fun..When it all comes right down to it we're here for each other through thick & thin or when one of our family members are in need of help on the road we're all there ready to help in some way or another . Yep Freebird The good Lord blessed you when you started this Venture site. Buddy

I talked to Cindy today and checked on how things are going. So far we have 10 members & family set up with Edelweiss Inn. Cindy said for the week of Sept 10-13 she only has 9 rooms left so this kinda tells how good this hotel is. So if your planing on staying at Edelweiss Inn might be best to get a room reservation soon. Cindy said if any body needs to cancel please do so within 2 days of the reservation to avoid a charge. There are plenty of Hotels & motels in Eureka Springs to stay at. And there will be a lot of motorcycles there as well. But since Edelweiss Inn is our headquarters we would like to have as many members as possible there. Cindy & Bryan are really nice couple to meet plus they ride motorcycles as well that is when Cindy is not stuck behind the counter. Plus they set out clean towels for us to clean our bikes and when we return from our group rides our rooms are ready as well. May not be big like the Hilton or Best western but you will get better service and cleaner rooms!!! The Gold Wing group will be there a week ahead of us so we lucked out on staying with Cindy at Edelweiss Inn as this is one of their places to stay as well. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody there... Buddy

Congratulations and remember we need photos of your new ride.... And yes I here silver is very popular this year... Peg & I was with Michael & Teri (heatonmt) in McAlester not to along and we stopped at the local Yamaha dealer, Michael was looking for a Silver Venture but they had none in stock other than a 06 dark red color which looked like it came in from the rain, nasty looking and the salesman was telling Michael it was a 08 model.. yeah right .. Anyway If they had a Silver one in stock, I figured Michael would have driven it home that day. I think Teri was happy to go home on Big Blue instead. Good Luck and hope to see a photo soon..... buddy

Yes checking gap is from the bottom side of your lobes not from the tip...Forget about the timing marks as you check the gap on the lifters.. Timing has nothing to do with the gap on your shims. Just go around your motor and check each set of lobes exhaust or intake using your gauge & tool. Once you have done your check and changed any shims. Then you can worry about your cam & timing marks...
-
Dan If your tool looks like mine? (shape of a letter "J" ) it fits between the cam lobes. The tool hooks around the bottom side of the cam lobes with the straight part pointing the the same direction as the leading edge of the cam lobe. Rotate the cam with the bottom side toward the lifters as you rotate it the tool will catch the edge of the lifters and push them down giving you just enough room to check your gap. The leading edge of the cam lobe when checking your gap should be pointing in the up direction. as you look at your lifter or lifters you will see a slot where you can remove your shims out of the lifter. When rotating the cam make sure to place the lifter in a spot to where you can get a pick or small screwdriver in the slot on your lifter to remove the shim once the tool is engaged. Buddy
