First time I really FULLY tested the 83 Venture I had. Was riding with a friend of mine he has the 03 VTX1800 Honda. We left from a dead stop he got the jump on me but once I hit second gear he was history. I gave the motor full throttle and let it loose,he said he could see day light under the front tire when I went by him. He never thought a touring bike could do that. These XVZ1300 motors LOVE it when you let them have FULL THROTTLE....... Oh the 83 had no rev. limiter either...Sure do miss that bike... Now my RSTD I have now can move on out as well, BUT I find the rev. Limiter is keeping this motor from being what its best known .........................THE BEAST........................ When you let this motor have full throttle you will soon find out why their called the "Bullet Proof Motor".. the more throttle you give it the more it wants!!!! Find you a long straightaway and let it loose, you Wont hurt the motor one bit!!! Heck it will be begging you for more throttle....... I guarantee it..........

A few maintenance questions
buddy replied to Karl C.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First off welcome to the family.... Rotella T 15w40 is rated for motorcycles and will not break you pocket book either , a lot the folks here have used Rotella T 15w40 well over 50,000miles on their bikes I like it very much myself.. I used Amsoil in the past as well Mobil 1 10w40 motorcycle oil too but I rather save money and use Rotella T 15w40 instead. Also use wallie world ST 7317 oil filter as well. I always had better luck buying my parts from www.flatoutmotorcycles.com for my cycle parts. http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/fiche_select.asp -

Sorry but True... When I worked at the dealer I would get a bad taste in my mouth when I see a Cadi drive in. Always had ghost in the wiring system,Transmissions slipping,Blown head gaskets, oil leaks every where on most of them, motor mounts are fun too...NOT Helping your friend out is the right thing to do:innocent:. I also helped a few friends out myself in the past. But there were times I wished I dint.

Thanks for the info. Boss, most places give you no warning and do it anyway. And I'm sorry your are having to this up grade. We all know its been a pain a time or too for you, and for that I'm sorry. And it has not been asked yet so I will.... $$ Does the venturerider.org have enough money to cover this up grade? as we all know you have given a lot of your time & personal money up for us and I want to make sure this does not happen again. I don't have much but what I have its yours to use for this site. Don, Peg & I also want to Thank You for all your time and sweat you put into this site, You really have a big family here, we're here if you need us (VentureriderFamily) in one way or another Please ask! if you need anything. Would someone know the paint code for a 2006 RSTD? The paint is Pearl White. Had the O'reilly's man use his paint scanner on the saddle bag and it came up with White Gold?? he said it was not the right color? He said I have the Two stage paint $$. He also used his little color folder as well trying to see if he had a color match No luck so far:(. he said he would keep this on file and see what he can come up with later?. Also asked The local Yamaha dealer for help as well, and they could care less.. one reason why I do not buy from them anymore...... So anybody have a Good Paint Code I can give him?? he said an automotive paint code would be better?? He said motorcycle paint codes do him no good?? I don't now why he said that?? Guess his computer doesn't carry Motorcycle Paint codes?? Reason I'm asking is my Mom bought me a new after market H.D. Fairing for my Birthday last month. And I have a Venture trunk I been saving, glad I dint sell it now. Anyway I want to add these to the RSTD and I hope I get a good color match?

http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=JMCB-2003-DU&PF=24 If you read the fine print, it does not include the head sets-wiring-brackets-CB antenna or coax cable ETC. So your looking at more $$$$.. I too am looking at this package deal as well..

I ran both sets Venom & Elite3. Both handle the dry roads, tire noise about the same. pretty close on tire wear as well. But the Venom can take the curves better than the Elite3 and when it comes to wet roads the elite3 give me some movement on tar snakes to where the Venom stuck like glue. So I have to lean toward the Venom for better grip & wet traction...hope this helps.. just wish the $$ was not so high....

I use the ST7317 long filter so far I been very pleased with it. I have cut several open after each oil change so far everything inside held up really good, unlike fram which seems to split and fall apart over time... I used Wix 51358 & napa 1358 filter which are both the same filter just different labeling, good filter never had any problems using it on my cycles . But I stayed with ST7317 filter just as good and half the price too. cant beat that..

I had the 88 GL1500 model. nice bike at times I wish I kept it.. it was payed off LOL. Anyway main reason I sold it was due to the knee's, the 88 model dint have much leg room and the way the crash bars are set up on the 88 model the foot pegs put my legs way apart I mean way apart. But it was very smooth riding bike very easy to handle and the GL1500 motor was bullet proof too. Really Loved that motor. GL1500 is a slower bike but it has a smoother ride, more load capacity and more luggage room than the GL1800. he will have many of miles of enjoyment on that GL1500......
