Yes you still need the key. The bike will crank over but not start, without the key. Mine was temperaray untill I got a new switch. The bypass is half the job in hot wiring the bike so I guess you would say it is easier to steal but I would assume anyone stealing it would just roll it away before trying to hot wire it in a parking lot. Steve, Brick and HalRSV99 live right here as well. Brick is in Waterloo (probably close to you), if you make it to the meet and eat you can ask them yourself (as they will be there). They will also be at Michigan meet for the rear end party on Saturday see this post. I am sure the Canadians will out number the Michigan crew. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30266 Brad

On the Virago, I slide the chrome shock of the bolt, then installed the plate (supplied with back rest), and then reinstalled the shock and nut. I did not think they made one for the Venture. Suggest sending them an email, or call them. I am sure they would send you the instructions just a simple page. They were real nice people and very helpful. Replaced the chrome bar on the backrest, without questions. Real quick to respond as well. Good luck Brad

I bought one for my wifes bike (Virago). The backrest comes with two brackets that mount to the bike. The bracket has pipe welded to it and the bar backrest slides into the pipe. Check out the web site and you can see the brackets if you look closely. http://www.protac.net/9243.html Regards, Brad

Buy a set of the 100 volt amplified Computer speakers, and use a 110 to 12volt converter to power them. Set the boom box in the back and smaller ones on the dash. Should be loud enough for you then, and the should have enough room van to fit all the speakers. Brad

Very cute great pics and so glad you three were able to get away. So are you gonna tell who the Famn Damily is ?? Or are we suppose to guess ? Brad

HAHA I rode all the way out West without finding this button, man I was pissed as I found it about 300 miles from home. I use a FM Modulater that plugs into the aux port on the side of the unit. I got from Walmart works real good and you can select any station you want. I have always had the prompts off I hate that person talking to me interupting the music. BRad

Steve sounds like the Corbin may be what your looking for. I never tried it but it is definetly different. Personally I like the pillow top which I paid over 400 bucks for as the 99 came with different seats. Anyway when you get that bike out lets get together for a ride and the carb tune. PS did you see this ? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=108&day=2009-1-24&c=1 We are having a meet and eat on the 24th out by the Price club. They have good food and there shoud be a pretty good turn out. Brad

Yeh that is what Don said, but I thought it had something to do with big brother watching I liked that feature as well, but appearantly it chewed up ots of space Brad -
Not hard to do real easy with a Car tune. Just for info the speedo's are out about 7% so at 70 you are only running at about 65 mph. Also I assume it was in 5th. Go ahead and drop it to 4th and see if the vibration is different or disappears. At that speed in 5th it is not lugging but is close. Brad
-
I do not think it is covered as it is normal maintanance, but it is real easy to do if you have the correct tool. Suggest getting to a meet and eat as someone will always have a carb tune handy. Then it is only 15 minutes work. Many members have the proper tools Brad

When I went to the 99 RSV from the 86, Rhonda also mentioned there was more vibration than the First gen. We played around a little with the gears and I found that if I changed to a lower gear with higher rpm the vibration was less. Vibration was greater the harder I accelerated, in a higher gear. So What I am saying is that maybe you are running the wrong gear and bogging the engine a little, and as you accelerate this is causing the vibration that is affecting her back. It is hard to tell the RPM on these bikes and you can rev them right up without hurting them, I would also suggest the Carb sync, and possibly the gel additionas to the seat. BRad

Welcome to the site. I see that you meet Hal at the show (please don't judge us all by him ). I would have thought steering bearing or a tire, but next I would look at the air pressure, or possible drag on the rotors. Brad

Steve Got your PM did not get a chance to answer. Can you advise what you do not like ? You should have the pillow top and I believe it is much more comfortable than the stock seats that came with the older RSV's and the older Midnights. Possible Rick's modifications to the seat would suffice. Or just adding a backrest will make the stock seat much more comfortable for long day rides, as it gives your lower back the support needed. Glad you had a great time and glad you made it back safely. Must a have a few miles on that van as the you replaced the intake gasket once, but must be shot again. Same thing happened to my Malibou at 130,000 miles intake went bad then the head gasket. I was topping antifreeze up but got so bad it ran dry and over heated. All the best on this one, Garages will charge a fortune if you have any to help it is not that bad of a price for parts. BRad
