Didn't check the dates on my Avons. Probably will later, but they have between 9 and 10 K miles on them. Put them on in early May this year they are doing fine. No cracks showing and plenty of tread left. Gary B

My wife's leather jacket has a thinsulate liner and she finds it quite comfortable. It is a little pricey but as someone said, you do get what you pay for. Unfortunately, I can't give you a place to get it cause it's Canadian made for a chain up here. However, I'm positive that you can get jackets for women in the US with thinsulate as we've seen them when we were looking. The problem is that buying off a website is really risky, especially when it comes to fit. My wife tried many jackets in many places before she found one that fit her properly. If you can find a make and model that fits well, then it may be worth looking for that one on the webb but otherwise you run the risk of disappointment. I think that your best bet if you want leather, is to get a good electric vest, with or without sleeves depending on your needs. We have been out numerous times in below freezing temps and the jacket keeps the wind out but the vest puts the warmth inside Just my 2 cents. Good luck! Gary B

I had a hypercharger on my 02 VStar. There is a picture of it in my garage photo gallery. Kuryakyn makes them for a variety of bikes. Not the Venture. I put it on with straight pipes and rejeted. All combined I think the bike had a bit more power but not significant. I doubt if the hypercharger on the VStar would have added much power on its own even with rejetting. But it sure looked cool. Especially with butterflies that matched the candy apple red of the bike. Cheers, Gary B

I used to think that they would freeze also but now I think it has much more to do with wether they are properly charged. When we lived near North Bay, Ontario, it would hit minus 40 all too often. The Marina owner down the road had lived there all his life and told me that all the batteries from the boats he stored in his outdoor sheds were kept in the boats but disconected. He said that as long as he charged them up thoroughly when he winterized the boats that they would not freeze. He would guarantee that he would replace them if they did. I then started leaving my batteries for our boat and 5th wheel in an unheated garage all winter. Made sure they were well charged before and never had a problem. Maybe if they are not too good to begin with they will freeze. I do remember as a kid, may parents car battery freezing while in the car. Car was a piece of junk however so battery probably was too. Cheers, Gary B

Rear Shocks goin bad.
Black Ice replied to BuddyRich's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Eck. WE all know that the shock problem exists with ALL 2nd gens including 05 and newer and I'm sure this is common knowledge with practically all Venture owners. I love my bike and wouldn't want anything else but it drives me absolutely crazy that Yamaha ALWAYS says they aren't aware of a problem that everyone else knows about. I heard this about the leaking exhaust join too and one day, perhaps in a weaker moment when I was complaining about this ignorance on Yamaha's part, the owner of the dealership where I go admitted very quietly that Yamaha never admits to any problem. They will fix most things but perhaps because they don't want to issue recalls, always say "nope, never heard of that". Anyway, just needed to vent a little. I do think our posts and our numbers help us out a lot when dealing with these issues. Yamaha may not admit to things but they do know about these problems. Cheers, Gary B -

Turning left on a red when the light won't change.
Black Ice replied to juggler's topic in Safety and Education
This is interesting because I've done this a few times too after waiting through 2 or more lights. Haven't been pulled over though. Being that we travel on the bike alot in many states, I guess the best thing to do rather than learn all the state laws is to go straight through and then turn around and do a right turn? Really don't want to run afowl of the local law enforcement far away from home. -
RSV lift frame adapters - improved model

I like this alot. I'm away for a week or more but when I get back I'd like to look into this a bit more. Shipping to Canada might be a bit more. Have you looked at the cost to ship here? Good on ya! Cheers, Gary B -
For the rear shock, this will probably sound stupid but check to make sure the valve stem is tight. Sometimes its the little things that are the problem. The replacement shock I got installed under warranty wasn't holding air well either and when I checked the valve stem it was loose. Once tightened, no more problem with loosing air. Cheers, Gary B

Loosing your friends like this really leaves a void. Sorry to hear it. We too are seeing this coming in the near future and dreading it. Have done it twice before and it never gets easier. Gary B

Found your "musings" interesting. Thanks for sharing it. Learned something too as I had the Bridgestones before changing to the Avons and always thought that the awfull howl was from the front tire. Will be interested in the next installment. Cheers, Gary B

Well yes I love my Avons too. The smaller front definitely makes the bike feel lighter. Another thing I love about them is that they don't howl like those bleeping Bridgestones did. Very quiet. Very Happy! Gary B
