  1. Ok - just went out a looked at the box (was sealed new from Odyssey). It is a PC545MJ - which is interesting cause I asked for the plain one (guess he gave me what he had for the same prices). Now there are no dates on the box - so I will have to pull my seat to get the mfg date, but he stated that the battery would be good until 10/09 - so I would assume that means a mfg date of 10/07 (since according to the manual - they have a 2 year shelf life). But I will confirm later today when I pull the seat (I am assuming its on the battery). Stuart
  2. I just purchased on e for $115.00 in Pompton Plains in New Jersey (walked in and bought it - Electro-Battery - he is on the web). He has some in stock (PC545). I was reading in the manual, it clearly states for Powersports applications that the battery is warranteed for 2 years only (longer for other applications). Its a bit lower than a Yusua - but fits nicely. The specs seem impressive. Stuart
  3. Dude, that is gonna be one hot bike when your done. Looking awesome. Stu

Dude - very cool. Where did you get the LED's from? I did similar to mine today. Added a signal dynamics brake / run light and a Kissan License plate frame with Brake and Running/Turn Signals - the turn signals are sequential like the old thunderbirds were. Also replaced all the bulbs (8 years old). Changed out the 1157 for a 2357 LL (higher lumens brake light). Stu
  5. It may legally be a motorcycle - but they say "steers like a car"...this is like the stallion - if it has a "steering wheel" - sorry - its getting to close to a car (automatic transmissions, enclosed roofs, air conditioning ... please). Stuart
  6. Your gonna laugh, but this winter picked up an 97' XT225 and I am having a blast with it. Its a perfect compliment to the Venture - 250lbs, single, quick, 85 mpg - Great for running around town, back roads, and I know guys who actually race them on the dirt. I am not that aggressive. 31" Seat height is confidence inspiring - and was CHEAP!. Got it with only 1300 miles on it, and almost mint condition. I put a little rack and tail pack on it. Good luck with whatever you choose. Stu
  7. The folks at www.myradiostore.com also sell a hard wire kit for 17.99. Works great. But there is a large black box (3" X 1.5" X 1.25") that is with it that needs to be attached under the fairing or on the side of the battery. Stu
  8. I have a Saddleman Road Sofa, its awesome. Rick Butler on this forum re-worked it for me a bit - and it ROCKS! Stu
  9. Correct Freebird - I hardwired the XM. The MP3 player I have also would fit (barely too), however no way to charge it or realistically replace the music. I also checked Sirus - but could not find a radio as small as the Sportscaster. The actual inside dimensions are 1 3/4" by 4 7/8" however it narrows slightly smaller in the front due to the over-engineered flip front door - of which their are two latches and a gear mechanism (for the slow open ??) and a spring. Rick, if you can find gauges with an od of 1.6" or less - you could get two - maybe three - or maybe - a nice alternative - A digital tack and volt meter - both really needed as well? Like I said - most pragmatic solution - rebuild the box - and come up with an alternative to the door gear latch mechanism. Stu
  10. During this past December I had opprotunity to work at the Jacob Javits Center in the Yamaha booth as part of our STAR Touring group. The STAR Touring booth was located right between the 2 Ventures and the VSTAR 250/650. While there I talked to many possible future Venture owners about the bike. And everyone one of them spoke of the embarrassment of the cassette deck. So I decided that their had to be something better (MP3/ SAT Radio / Nav) than that old deck. On Venture site, someone had removed the Cassette player and replaced it with a glove box. So I decided that something was definately possible. I saw another user had replaced theirs with a Graphic EQ, but still thought something more useful. So I began to search. One criteria I was trying to maintain was not to modify the external portions of the fairing and if all possible retain the door to the cassette deck. The dimensions - are tiny. Now I found an MP3 player (Sansa) this would fit. Problem is I would only get about 4 hours out of the battery and it had no car power offered to it. Tried to see if any GPS would fit, no luck (smallest is a Garmin - 2.2" X 5"). Then I found it - a Satellite Radio - the AGT - Sportscaster - 1.6" High - 4.75" Wide. Now it still took quite a bit of modifications - but it works. I tried to make it look as factory as possible. Also at the same time - made a modifcation to my Hoppnel pouch to move my TomTom 720 to sit dead center (like the Gold Wing). This is also wired into the Aux. Now I have MP3, Bluetooth Phone and Spoke Navigation working in conjuction with the SAT Radio (via a splitter). Now - is it a perfect solution - probably not. Is it a better solution - I think so. Thought I would share it with you all. Stu
  11. I have a Dell XPS 1330 that I tote on mine, and I have never had a problem at all with it. I use a laptop backpack and just throw it in the trunk or Saddlebag. I would recommend some sorta padded case for it. When I am not using the laptop, I use my Samsung Blackjack PDA/Phone - takes pics, surfs internet, gets my email - etc. I am in the process of having this tied into my audio system. Stuart.
  12. Wow - sorry to hear you have had difficulty with them. I have ordered a bunch of stuff from them via the Internet, and never had a problem (including the side rails). The only thing that was an issue once (and they told me in advance) was Carb covers. Were out of stock in the entire US (and I checked) last year around July - Aug. Had to wait 8 weeks for them to come in. Wish you luck. Stu
  13. I have ordered from them. They are good - however the one part I ordered was on backorder (by every dealer in the nation) - can you guess which one ;-) - Carb Covers. I ordered them then 2nd week of July, and I got them the last week of August. Now that stated - I don't believe this was their fault - as no dealer anywhere had them or could get them any faster. And to their credit, they offered to me twice if I wanted to cancel the order, and they were exceptionally responsive to my emails. I wish you luck. I would order from them or South Seatle Power Sports. I have yet to beat any of their prices. Stu
  14. I purchased a new ignition switch to replace my old one. However - I cannot figure out how to remove the 2 bolts that hold the ignition switch on !!! The bolt heads are smooth with a flat top in the center - and they are threaded into a base witch is welded to the frame. Is there a special tool I need to remove these - or is this a drill the bolt out and replace them? I am hoping someone knows the secret to this? Thanks in advance.. Stuart
  15. Thanks for the heads up, yes - brand new battery in Aug of this year. Imagine that the original gave up the ghost after 7 years ;-) . Thinking it might be the ignition switch. Not sure whether it needs cleaning or replacement all together. Also - realized my passing lamps are wired in from by the factory instructions. Going to switch them over to the "relay" method of wiring them as that might have lead to the demise of the ignition switch.
  16. Was out on the bike this weekend. Ran a couple of errands (maybe 35 miles - 2 / 3 Stops). Then came home, picked up the wife and went out for some lunch. We came out, and the bike would not start. Turning the ignition switch cause the gauges (fuel etc) to flash for a second then shut off. No lights at all on the bike, no netural indicator. Oddly enough the radio still works? Could this be a blown fuse? or ignition switch failure? We tried jump starting it, not even a click from the starter. Would a short in either the passing lights (have the switch off) or the brake lights (have a back off installed) be causing such a failure? Thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Stu
  17. Just curious, is that the October 07' issue or the November/December issue you are referring to? Thanks in advance. Stu
  18. Congrats on your new ride. I am only a little way from you in Morristown. Let me know if you ever want to hook up for a ride. Mine is a two tone Red 2000. Enjoy riding - and be safe. Stu
  19. Polk Audio also makes a set. I am not sure of the model or how well they sound, I seem to think they were either 89 or 99 bucks. Stu
  20. Junkyarddog53, Sorry to hear of your problems. I agree its a shame, East Hanover Yamaha, Speer, Rt 15 Powersports - none of them have a Venture in stock. I will tell you this, about 1 hour west of here (Northern NJ) in an area called (I believe) Quakertown PA, there is a place called Scotts Powersports (take Rt 78 West to 309 South, he is on the left maybe 5-8 miles down). He had a blue and black one in stock about 1 month ago (have not been there since, so I would call first). If your in North Jersey, your welcome to come and sit on my 2000, however I have had the level links (raises the back about 3/4") installed, not sure if that would affect your purchase decision or not. Good Luck. Stuart
  21. As a consultant/solutions implementer - I travel all over. Mostly up and down the east coast. I do alot of work in the Detroit and Chicago areas as well. However, right now I am in the Netherlands. In April, will probably be in Russia. Stuart
  22. I saw on a website somewhere (I think another trailer site) that someone used inexpensive thin plastic used in shower construction. Its available at Home Depot / Lowes for bathroom remodels. You also might try formica - its pretty durable and light weight. Stu
  23. You know - not sure - but doesn't the cable below the box (separate from the ad) for 49.95 look like a "C" Bus to IPOD interface? Stu
  24. I had the same problem - I just cut them off. Was easier. They say to use "krazy glue" to hold them in place - any of you use that? I was thinking of using the same stuff they sent with the grips? Thoughts? Stu
  25. I tried the narrow front tire (Dunlop D404 - about the same measure 5.5"), and it helped alot. Bear in mind, keep an eye on TIRE PRESSURE, very important (use tire mfg, Yamaha's is wrong). But still heard a lot of strong arguments for the links, decided to give them a try in conjunction with the narrow tire (heard others really liked it). And I must say - the combo is awesome. I was pulling into a parking space at like .5 mph, and the bike turned effortlessly. So much lighter in the front end. Now the narrow tire is great in the twisties - had no problem on the dragon and thats about as twisty as it gets. By the way, the kick stand work around (turn the wheel hard lock left) works great. I will be damned - couldn't believe it was that simple. Stu
