Yep - about 1 hour. Was 38-40 degrees. Decided to take the dual sport (XT225 Serow) and my new Arai XD3 helmet. What a great helmet and ride. Stuart

I have the Tom Tom 720 GPS, I use this with a RAM Mount, and custom bracket (sits flat against the brake master cylinder on the handlebars). Nice thing about this is it has an IPOD interface. So I keep my IPOD in the Hopnel Tuxedo pounch - but can control it through the interface on the GPS, while at the same time getting instructions. This coupled with a balence between the XMRadio mounted where the cassette was, and a splitter on the AUX, allows me the best of both worlds. Now .. all I need is a DVD player and I will be set :-) Stuart

I replaced my Cassette player with an XM Radio unit. Its not easy - the space if very tight. You could concievably replace it with an MP3 player - but it will have to be very small as you would want to remove it and replace the music on it. Also - think about how your going to power it. Most of the smaller players recharge from your PC, you need to get a car adapter to convert the 5v to mini USB (in most cases) charge the device. Not trying to discourage you, just some food for thought prior to starting. Have fun and enjoy. Take pics and post when your done. Stuart

Early bulletin from Honda on the 2009 Models: http://powersports.honda.com/motorcycles/touring_sport_touring/model.asp?ModelName=2009+Gold+Wing+Audio%2FComfort%2FNavi%2FXM&ModelYear=2009&ModelId=GL18HPNM9 See if you can tell by looking at the link what they added to the 2009 Goldwing. Other new news from Honda – the DN01 (Cool looking Automatic bike) is coming to the US. That’s about it (besides a few new dirt bikes – fuel injected). Honda’s official announcement is next week. Also – the new Suzuki’s are out. There is a new Boulevard M90 and a smaller Boulevard M50 (Black and Limited models as well) and new colors. The GXR1000 has been redone and there is a new standard model called the Gladius. Stuart

I was over your way on Sunday (Pen Argyl) for the STAR Chapter 208 Pocono Picnic. But not on Wednesday. Might have been some of the other guys from that chapter. I know 1 drives a Black Cherry 2006 and another dirves an 2005 Midnight. Stuart

Hello Fellow Morristowner - I live here too. Ok - There is East Hanover Powersports - not great - but not bad either. I have used them serveral times. A bit impersonal - but they are honest. Lou Kosco and RT 15 Powersports is just about out of business (at least that what the signs on his door say). The best I have found is FW Speer, they smaller guys off Rt 3 (near Hoffman LaRoche). You can find them on the web at http://www.speeryamaha.com/. They have taken great care of both my 2000 RSV and my XT 225. Great bunch of guys, very trust-worthy. A bit of a drive from Morristown - but worth it, you will not be dissappointed. There is also Yamaha of Ramsey - a number of our guys in the STAR Chapter 218 use them as well without complaints. Apparently his service department is good. Once your bike is up and running - if your interested - please feel free to contact me if you like to join the STAR Touring North Jersey Group (Chapter 218). We meet the 3rd sunday of every month. Would love to have you in the group. You can visit us at www.startouring218.com. If you have further questions - please don't hesitate to PM me. Stuart

WANT TO TALK TO ANOTHER BIKE w/o AUDIO
seforeman replied to TESchoener's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Tom, The IMC setup I believe uses a Firewire connection to the plug. But Sierra also sells a version (think you have to call them) that uses the 5 PIN DIN connection. Also the Airrider site (second link) sells the 5 pin connection as well. Stu -

You can also find a comparable product here - again you have to buy the components separately (CB, Push to Talk Button, Patch Cable, Handlebar mount[if you do not want to use a windsheild bag and external attenna]). http://www.airrider.com/store/product.php?id=477 Stuart -

Here is a link to the product that includes an IMC Headset - I believe they also sell the same kit without it. http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SIE%2DCOBRA%2DIMCKIT You can also buy all the components separately. Stuart -
WANT TO TALK TO ANOTHER BIKE w/o AUDIO
seforeman replied to TESchoener's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I got my wife a inexpensive CB setup from Sierra - it consists of a Cobra handheld CB and a mount with a push to talk button, and 5 Pin DIN plug. This allows her to use the same helmet mic setup as the one on the Venture (so she does not need an additional mic or helmet). I purchased and additional external mounted attenna for this as well. Total cost of the setup was around 250.00. It works quite well for just CB. Not quite the quality of the JM - but the JM will set you back a lot more. The CB can run for 20 hours on 8 "AA" or has a hard wire kit. We put the CB in a windsheild bag for her. Stuart -
I would look for a used Honda Big Rukus :-) Stu

If you get a chance to do some of Rt 6 in PA - its a beautiful ride (along the top of the state). I believe its listed as one of the top touring roads in America. Rt 30 (out of Lancaster and beyond York) can be quite pretty and historic (to Gettysburg). However - there are a fair amount of lights and traffic - but not too bad. Also - Williamsport PA has some great riding around it. If you have or can get a copy of Road Runner - Motorcycle Tour and Travel Magazine from Feb 08, it has a what appears to be a wonderful ride around that area. Our STAR touring group did a ride with the Central PA group last year and it was amazing scenery and wonderful roads. Stuart

Rick, Hope you have a safe a wonderful trip. I just got back from doing about 1800 miles on the Roadsofa you re-worked for me down from NJ to Va to W Va and then to North Carolina and back. Both the Wife and myself were extatic. The seat performed amazingly well. And I can tell you, I don't miss the gel at all, and considering some days the heat index was 105, I didn't miss the heat of the seats at all either. Prior to that we did 600+ miles to and from Rolling Thunder in DC on Memorial day. I feel like after riding 6-7 hours - I could ride a lot longer still. Now, the only part of my bod that is fatigued is my wrists. I have the Barons risers, but thinking I need to switch to the Flanders bars instead. We are off to the Grey Ghost Inn in Vermont second weekend in July, will be putting in another 700+ miles then too, and looking forward to it. You rock dude. Keep the shiny side up. Stu

I did the same thing - but installed and XM Radio in its place. I too have a used cassette deck for sale..but no cassettes to go with it. Maybe you could find some - at an antique store :-) Stuart
-
BEER30, I saw your bike there. That thing looks awesome dude. I too was in the first 100 or so. I was a Gold Star Escort and had a wonderful woman (named Norma) on the back. I have to say (being my first time) it was the most wonderful and emotional experience of my life. It was a true honor for me to do this for Rolling Thunder and the Gold Star Mothers. I was toward the rear near the trailing duece and half. It was an amazing time and I hope to do it again next year.

I am heading to Rolling Thunder in DC with our Star Touring Group. Should be a good time. Everyone have a safe weekend .. Stu

21 This past April, better today then it was in the beginning. Looking forward to the next 30 or 40 together. Stuart

Ok - Check the mfg date - 10/07 and called the dealer. The two year warrantee is from date of purchase, not date of mfg. So keep your reciepts ;-) Stu
-
Actually - the comment the dealer made was in regard to charging the battery - not the warrantee. I had simply asked - did the battery need to be charged, and he stated no, that the battery would hold its charget till Halloween 09. I believe the battery is fully under warrantee from sale date, not from shelf date. I will get the information on the mfg date. Stu
