  1. I'm not sure what brand it is, maybe Ponch will jump in and let us know. It works nicely, no needle bounce. Ron
  2. Woo Hoo! Got the gauges in yesterday, What a nice addition! Ron
  3. I had a 2000 Interstate, nice bike. Stick and the guys over on the Delphi Valkyrie website are a good knowledgeable group too. Ron
  4. Hi Larry, I did get the tach. I have one on the bike now on the handlebar made by Arlen Ness, however I wanted a cleaner look. I'll post a picture when I get everything installed. Ron:cool10:
  5. I ordered the gauge set that Ponch designed and sells to replace the cassette deck in our second gen Ventures. I just want to say to anyone considering it, ORDER IT NOW. It is a well thought out quality package with EVERYTHING you need to install. It comes with awesome instructions, should be a straight forward install. Thanks Ponch! Ron:bighug:
  6. You probably have a clutch problem unrelated to oil. My clutch slipped on aggressive shifts, I installed Skydoc 17's full disc and stronger clutch spring. I just got back from a 7400 Km trip to Arizona and back, pulls like a train, no slippage at all. I 've been running Rotella 5/40 synthetic for the last 23000 km. Regards, Ron:322:
  7. I put a pair of near new 2005 RK mufflers on my '06, they were definitely louder than stock, with a deeper tone. I've put about 20,000 Km on them, and they've burned out and have got progressively louder yet. They sound really nice now, mellow rumble at idle. I personally wouldn't want then any louder, and am happy I didn't drill them out originally. Regards, Ron
  8. Did they not offer you a customized shock with an upgraded spring? Ron:confused24:
  9. I'd be very interested how your fare with that shock, I've been in contact with him also. I used to ride a Honda ST1300, and some of the guys on that forum bought Hagon shocks for their bikes and were pretty happy with them. Ron
  10. Check under the Classified section under "Vendors" for Ponch. He makes the gauge set, they are very cool. I'm going to order myself one shortly. Ron:cool10:
  11. If my shock goes I think I will try the Hagon shock with the remote preload adjuster, looks like a good deal to me. Below is an E-mail I received from a U.S. distributor: Happy to help. Hagon makes shocks for 98 and up 1300 Venture Star with VIN prefix XVZ13TF or 4XY. Currently out of stock, can easily get, 2-4 weeks. Cost is $394 plus UPS at cost to you which will vary depending on your zip code. 'Off-the-shelf' shocks are assembled for an average rider- there is enough adjustability in the stock shock to cover a wide range of loading. It would be useful to know your weight, and whether you carry passengers (% of time? Passenger weight?) or luggage (saddlebags? tank bag? top box? loading in each?) and what your maximum loading (passenger/luggage) is likely to be. If Hagons determine that your loading exceeds the design parameters of the shock, they can supply to special order a shock with an uprated spring. Conversely if you are very light, Hagons can for some shocks supply a lighter spring. Softer and harder springs are available as custom built units only for $464 and will take between 4 and 6 weeks to get here. Shocks are also available to special order with a remote hydraulic spring preload adjuster- $554 for a stock spec shock and $624 for an upgraded spring model. Hagon monoshocks are fully rebuildable and feature straight weight spring with adjustable spring preload (threaded manual or hydraulic remote adjuster), adjustable 15 position LINKED compression and rebound damping (one adjuster for both) and a two year unlimited mileage warranty against failure due to manufacturing defect. Bent shocks due to accident, impact, dropped bike, improper installation or owner malfunction will not be warranteed. Shocks are not returnable once they have been fitted. All adjusting tools are included with the shock. You can see representative Hagon monoshocks online at http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/HAGON_MONOSHOCKS.html Shipping and insurance will be charged at cost and will vary depending on what you order, your zip code and any fuel surcharges in effect on the day your order ships. We ship by UPS in the continental USA, by Priority Mail to AK and HI and by US Mail Express International outside of the USA. For special orders we ask for a 50% good faith deposit when Hagons accept the order, with the balance due when we ship. Please note- Special orders are not returnable unless found to be defective. If you're interested in ordering, we accept VISA & Mastercard; we need: -name as it appears on your credit card -daytime phone number -billing address for the card -ship-to address if different -card number -expiration date. Call or Fax if you are uneasy about emailing credit card details. Let me know if I can offer you any other information. All the best, Maggie Dave Quinn Motorcycles 335 Litchfield Tpke Bethany CT 06524 USA 203-393-2651 FAX 203-393-1725 9-5 M T Th F 9-12 Sa

Congratulations on the new ride. I had a 2000 Interstate, was a nice bike. Ron:080402gudl_prv:
  13. I went from a 2006 ST1300 to my Royal Star Venture and have no regrets. I rode my ST1300 for approximately 20000 Kms and enjoyed it, however my wife never really warmed up to it, as we had a Valkyrie Interstate prior to the ST. She felt much more secure and comfortable. Personally for me, the ST is a refined, almost "appliance like" like in character. The powerband is so linear, and the engine so smooth, with the "outboard from hell engine exhaust note", the best way I could describe it is efficient. The Venture has a more old school hot rod feel to it, that more in tune with how I feel a motorcycle should feel. I have to say that even with a stock seat, it's the most comfortable motorcycle I've ever been on, Wings included. Pump the suspension up, put on a set of E-3's or Avons, and it has decent handling characteristics and good clearance before dragging bits in the twisties. Hope that helps, Ron:080402gudl_prv: P.S. the cruise works up to about 80 MPH, and it cruises fine at that.
  14. 35,000 MILES????? If I ever got that out of a tire I'd erect a monument to the manufacturer!
  15. I'm about to put on my second set of E-3's, the first set were great. They wore evenly with no flatspotting. I ride primarily on mountain roads in hot weather and like to twist the throttle, and I still managed to get 15,000 Kms from my present set. I could probably squeeze a few more thousand out of them, but am planning some longer trips and will just replace them. Best tires I've ever had. Ron
  16. I knew someone would chime in with the answer. Thanks very much! Ron:lightbulb:
  17. That does look interesting with only a 2.5 amp draw on low beam. I wonder how that compares with the standard 55 watt bulb, I don't know how to convert that to amps for comparison. Ron
  18. I have unmodifiied RK mufflers, and they have a nice mellow sound. I have put about 15000 Kms on them, and don't find them tiresome at all. When I first put them on I thought they didn't provide enough difference from stock. Someone posted on here to ride with them for awhile before modifying, and I'm sure glad I did. I love 'em. Ron
  19. On the Royal Star Venture page on Delphi forums there is a fellow named Chuck who makes those, he's a great guy, and makes really nice stuff. His handle there is Slowroll. cheers, Ron:080402gudl_prv:
  20. +1 on the Custom Dynamics taillight, and it's "plug and play"!
  21. I don't get them, might be useful if I had gout in my toe.......
  22. Islandmech, I normally buy mine from Phat Performance. You can get a pair of Elite 3's for 349.90 U.S. delivered, or Michelin Commander's for 289.90 delivered. They are great to deal with, I have bought 4 sets of tires from them. Recently I found a Canadian company from Ottawa called www.dreamcycles.net that will sell Elite 3's for 376.06 Can Delivered. That's the best pricing I have found in Canada, But I haven't dealt with them, might give them a try this time as delivery would be faster without going through customs.
  23. My bike came with 404's, I found they really followed rain grooves and pavement imperfections, and I was constantly having to provide input in corners. I put on E-3's and it was like a different bike, stable, and once you got your line in a curve, it's like it's on rails. The E-3's hold their pressure well too. I have about 15000 Km and they're pretty much done. I live and ride in the mountains, and most of my riding is in very hot weather, usually 80 degrees or more. I think I'm going to try Michelin Commanders next as I've heard a lot of good things. Ron:thumbsup2:
  24. I have the Symtec heaters under my stock grips, less than 50.00, work great!:dancefool:Ron
