I have never had my Venture in my dealers shop but they test drove it before turning it over to me. I think (just my opinion) that should be a requirement.

Thanks for the replies from everyone. You pretty much confirmed what I have found searching around the various forums. JFI...the conversion I have in mind does include the extra fuel tank and the full weight bearing boards. But I have a couple of questions that I forgot to ask... 1. Does the extra fuel tank kick in automatically or do you need to manually do something to utilize it? 2. Would an auto tire on the front be safe and worthwhile? Safety would be my primary choice, longevity would be secondary. Is there even an auto tire that can normally be found for use on the front?

I am considering having my 2009 Venture "triked" next year (Hannigan). I have done a bit of research and price checking and I have some questions. 1. I currently average about 45 MPG with 2 up and normal legal speeds. What sort of mileage am I likely to get after the conversion? 2. My OEM front tire was still fairly good at 15K, what sort of tire life should I expect after the conversion. I also heard/read that using a rear tire installed to rotate in the opposite direction would extend the front tire life. The explanation was that it had something to do with the belts/plies compressions (beyond my understanding however).

I currently have three. One on either side of the front wheel (brake line guides) and one under the trunk. I probably will add a couple more if I find a design that I really like. What can I say, I like gadgets (smile).

Just my opinion.....I say no.

I can't offer much in the way of help for this situation, but I can say I am truly pleased at the Venture/Yamaha riders going to the aid of a fellow rider. There is a STAR chapter in Greenville, TN, Jerry Mefford is Pres and there is a dealer there also. I hope everything works out ok.

Re: Garmin GPS StreetPilot 2720 Please Explain
alwrmcusn replied to E-Fishin-C's topic in Watering Hole
Not sure if this is truly accurate or not, but I was told by a Garmin rep that I called with a different question, that..... the GPS is accurate to within about 5-6 feet and that the difference in riding/driving/turning lanes going and coming from the same place can be sufficient to cause the GPS to default to a different route coming and going to the same place. I know that both my GPS's have taken me the same route for the last two miles of the way to a relatives home in Blythewood, SC. The same two GPS's take me a slightly different route when I leave their housing community and begin the return home to Tennessee. There may well be a GPS that can be programed to select specific roads for all or part of a trip. I would like to have one that does that, but I already have one for the car and one for the bike and the $$ for yet another is a little scare for an old retired swabbie! -
Are there any places to buy one here in the U.S., My MP3 player has already allowed me to remove the CD changer. I'd rather like to try this gadget as it would allow me to close the cassette door. I'm not all that keen on mail ordering and waiting, I'd rather just walk in and plunk down my $$.

Installing Kuryakyn ISO grips
alwrmcusn replied to alwrmcusn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Kuryakyn bar weights are scheduled for delivery tomorrow. I've put about 150 miles on without the weights and have not noticed any vibration. I have noticed that my hands have been cramp free, I'm attributing that to the slightly larger size of the new grips. Once again, thanks to everyone for the encouragement, the video links and the general comments. -

Success!! I used the video to bolster my confidence. Noted the slight difference between the bike in the video and my Venture and..... This morning I removed the OEM grips, installed the Kuryakyn ISO grips (6235) and the Throttle Boss. Fired it up, everything seemed to work ok, took it for a test ride and found the following: 1. The very slight throttle hesitation as I twisted the throttle was gone. I guess I got the adjustment just right (??) 2. I find no vibration/buzz at all without the end weights. I am going to order and install them anyway, just because I like the way the grips look in pictures with them installed. 3. The money saved by doing it myself more than paid for my VRO subscription!! :) -
Installing Kuryakyn ISO grips

There are instructions in the package (confusing instructions). I also have verbal instructions from friends and I have also just found out that possibly these are the wrong grips #6240 but should be #6235. I think I have to exchange them. -
Ordered the Kuryakyn grips #6240 for my 2009 Venture along with the Throttle Boss gadget that goes with them. Dealer just called and they have arrived. My mechanical expertise is not that great and I ain't just being modest Is this removal of the old and installation of the new grips something that I might attempt or should I have the service department do it? Back in the '60's it was so easy to change cables, grips, exhaust systems etc. :backinmyday:Heck back then I could, and did, even de-carbon my H2 triple. But this Venture ain't nothing like my old Matchless, R.E., Triumph, Kawasaki or even the Honda GL-500 I had. I sure don't want to get started on something I can't finish I searched for pictorials here on the job and did not find anything.

I'm fairly new here, is there a price/S&H list for these Venture patches? I did not see a listing. Thanks.

I've never ridden that loop, but I've lived, driven and ridden most of that area at one time or another. 3 days should be enough time to do that. As for lodging, the larger cities/towns should have the usual amenities. Hannah and I stayed in Johnson City, TN a couple of months back as we returned from MerleFest in Wilkseboro, NC. Thats a nice drive BTW, especially if you enjoy the curvy two laners.
