Hannigan Trike Trunk Lock??????????
alwrmcusn replied to First_N_Last's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
I found this T-Bar lock while doing online searches. It will require drilling two small holes, one on either side of the shaft. Would that be advisable that close to the shaft? The price is right! http://www.sears.com/prime-line-product-locking-t-handle/p-SP102A19475S6247456106?prdNo=47 -
Hannigan Trike Trunk Lock??????????
alwrmcusn replied to First_N_Last's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
I spent about an hour or so removing the lock from my right saddle bag and found that there is no way for it to work in my Hannigan trikes trunk. I then spent another hour before I finally managed to get the #%$^&^ thing reinstalled. I'd be interested in knowing how that saddlebag lock is supposed to replace that piece of junk that Hannigan puts on the trunk door. Do you have photos? -
Hannigan Trike Trunk Lock??????????

With the Tri Wing T-bar that you used, do you have to enlarge the hole? If so, how much and what did you use? Also is there a price available to quote?? -

Not sure what mileage to expect (realistically). Before triking the bike I got 16K from the Dunlop OEM tires (D404's I believe). I would hope for 20K from a front tire on the trike. Is that too much??

I believe I'll have to answer my own questions 1. Radial puts more tire surface on the road and runs cooler according to my internet research. 2. Theoretically the radial is therefore the better choice. 3. Opinions received...now I have to choose which I want to purchase. I sure wish I had a true automobile tire choice however.

Before leaving for STAR days in July I will be replacing the front tire on my RSV Hannigan trike. I have several questions. 1. What are the actual differences in Bias ply and Radial ply? Is one better than the other on a trike? Why? 2. I've checked and find there are few tires that fit. I'm lead to believe that I should select a "rear" tire and mount it backwards. If I do that would I be better selecting a Bias or a Radial ply tire? 3. I'd be interested in any trikers specific opinions on the replacement tire.

I was on the USS Mount Whitney antenna crew for several months. Up the old RLPA a number of times but it sure was a lot shorter than that thing.

Good luck on that "seabeetom", I've been trying to sell mine for almost a year.

My "two cents worth" (somewhat tongue in cheek) 1. I believe that there should not be a mandated helmet law. A person of any age should be allowed to make that decision themselves. 2. Should a helmetless rider have an accident they should be denied medical attention and must seek medical help on their own, after all it was their decision.

Will you tolerate some tire noise to obtain longer tire mileage/life? Yes Will you tolerate harder steering to obtain longer tire mileage/life? Why would that make a difference in tire mileage/life?? What motorcycle or motorcycle trike are you riding? 2009 RSV with Hannigan kit How many miles do you want a good front tire to last? 20K How many years at most do you expect a front tire to last? 3-5 years

Mike, Thank you...enjoyed the Kennesaw ride for sure. That dealer said that the Venture was very likely no more. Dealer did not elaborate and has been pretty close to dead on in the past. The way it was put to our STAR members was that the Venture was going to be replaced by another touring machine. The name Venture was likely not going to be used. Again...just speculation. We were in your area a couple of weeks ago, checked your meeting times and we were not there during the meeting. Otherwise would have shown up for the meeting. Should be back in Blythewood around mid May. Coffee somewhere maybe.

Talking with a dealer this morning who seems pretty sure that the new Yamaha that is being teased in ad's is going to be a hot item. Also said that the current Venture is likely the last. Said that there would be a touring bike but not as a Venture. The new lineup may be displayed in Vegas at the big show there in a couple of months.

planes, trucks, and motorcycles (I could do this with a Venture!)

Holy Kasmolie!! Geez Loueez!! -
My two cents worth: XP was and still is a fairly stable system and is still quite popular. Outdated and easily hacked. Vista never gave me a problem but lots of others reported they had them. Windows 7 was and still is extremely stable, hackable but to a somewhat less degree. Windows 8 is (my opinion) Windows 7 with a much more refined update. It does have a learning curve but if you take the time it should be worth it. It boots up noticeably quicker. It also is hackable but slightly less so than Windows 7. All operating systems are hackable including Apple's and Linux variations. What makes them less of a hacking problem is that there are far less of them and far less users. Hackers want more bang for their efforts. Rather like us riders/bikes with our machines. Their are a couple of downloads that you can get and apply that will make the Windows 8 appear more like the Windows XP or Windows 7 desktop. That is they will "bring back" the START button and the appearance of the earlier OS's. These links may be what you need to bring back the old XP/Win7 look to your computer. Please note that the Start 8 program has a $5 price. Each of them allows various customizations that you can choose. http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/index.html https://www.pokki.com/windows-8-start-menu http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/

Venture engine sound
alwrmcusn replied to alwrmcusn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Captainjoe: I have not figured it out yet. East Tennessee has been very cold, icy, rainy and snowy. Also trying to isolate sound while riding with a helmet is rather difficult. It does rise and fall as I go through the gears and again as I indicated before my best description is that (to me) it rather sounds as though there is an FJR matching my speed/gears but that the FJR is superimposed over my Venture. It is not very loud and it does not seem to be affecting operation of the Venture. -

I feel very sure that I'm able to tell the difference between windscreen/lowers noise and tire noise. So I'm positive I can rule those out. Weather here in east Tennessee has cleared so I'll be able to get the bike out over the next couple of days and try some things out. -

Thanks for the replies. I think you have to actually hear it to separate the various suggestions for possible causes. -
Rear Speaker wiring in front?
alwrmcusn replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My wiring diagrams show two wires going to the rear speakers. A red/yellow and a Brown/black. PDFs available for the full wiring diagram and the simplified wiring diagram if you need them. -
Venture engine sound
alwrmcusn replied to alwrmcusn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't think its transmission whine, though I could be wrong, I was once before (smile). It only started a couple of months ago. I'd have to take the bike and ride it to be sure, but I believe it maintains sound and volume at cruising speed, but I believe it dies when I roll off the throttle. Boomer lives close enough we might could meet and have hime listen to it if that would help. The east Tennessee area is getting ice/snow tomorrow (Fri) and I have a STAR meeting Saturday, but Sunday/Monday etc I'm available if he would like to give it a listen. -
Venture engine sound
alwrmcusn replied to alwrmcusn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not really, but it seems to be up front, perhaps between the front of the tank and the fairing. Of course the fairing will redirect the sound back to the rider. That's kinda why I think there might be a hose suckin' air somewhere. It isn't very loud but it is noticeable (at least to me). I'm not real sure how to describe it except to say it seems to me to sound like a sport bike that is very quiet accelerating, sort of a whining vrroommmm. It maintains the level of sound as I maintain speed. That is, as I speed up it sounds as though it is accelerating and when I reach cruising speed it holds that level of sound. I have not had any problems, have not been under the tank. It actually sounds rather nice as I'm riding but I fear something is not right and I'd like to find and fix it. -
My 2009 Venture (Hannigan triked) has started making an odd sound. This will surely cause some "witty" comments but here goes. As I accelerate and ride the bike makes a sound that I can only describe as emulating an FJR or and FZ6R (I've checked and I do still have the original Venture V-4 engine ) So it still has the normal Venture sound but there is also the other sound. I have no loss of power and gas mileage seems to remain the same. I'm guessing that I have an air leak somewhere maybe? It's not overly loud but it is noticeable to me.

I had the H2 750cc for about 9 months or so while stationed at NAS Jax. I got transferred to Little Creek, VA and had to decide. I'd have to ride it to Virginia while Hannah drove the car. I said "No way in h*ll would I ride this thing that far!". It was incredibly fast but after about 30-45 minutes on it, you'd have to stop and hug a tree to quit vibrating! I paid $905 for it and sold it for $905. I really did enjoy it but only for short rides.

True story: I first "learned" golf while stationed at NCS Rota in Spain. I was awful! After about two years of "playing" I gave it up on the 9th hole of the course on the base. I was with two other guys (about the same level of expertise as myself (smile)). I teed up on 9 and actually hit a pretty good shot down the fairway. When we all approached our respective second shots I found that I was up. I took out an iron (don't remember which), did the prerequisite waggle, gave a mighty swing and watched the ball rise rapidly up, higher, higher and veer right. Not just a little bit to the right but enough for the ball to actually land in the next fairway over to the right and considerably behind me! The other two guys hit their shots in the general direction of the green and we all walked on. I left that ball in the other fairway and strolled on. They asked me if I was going to go find and hit. I said "Nope, that's it, I quit". I kept walking past the green to the main gate area (just beyond the 9th green) where there was a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop. I had a banana split, walked up the street to the clubhouse put my clubs in the car and drove home. Sold the clubs, bag and pull cart for $10. All my golf is now watching it on TV or playing it on a PS3 (where I'm actually pretty good at it (smile)).
