  1. Hey Dano: My original order was for one but I bumped it up to two and that was what I paid you for. The list here only shows one for me. Just wanted to make sure the second one did not get lost in all the paperwork you have to keep track of. Thanks.
  2. Or, when was the last time you cleaned the terminal connections? Dirty or corroded terminals add resistance which increases the circuit load which equals more amperage for each cruddy connection. Not just on the high side but could also be the ground end.
  3. Well that's a bit disappointing, the article mentioned getting better breathing so I was hoping to get a bit more growl out of the stock exhaust too. I might do it this Winter anyway just to see what happens. Thanks Clay.
  4. What does removing the baffles from the collector do to the sound of the exhaust?
  5. When it comes to pilot screw adjustments, 2 1/2 turns out is not a particularly magic number. That number of turns out is only broadly meant to get the motor running. Fine tuning by 1/4 or 1/8 turns from there to find the sweet spot. Do one carb at a time turning in or out as it may require until hearing a roughness in the engine then turn it back 1/8 turn should get to the right spot. The pilot jet sets the air/fuel mix for the idle circuit. For this adjustment to be most effective the carbs need to be in sync and clean with no gobbed up o-rings. If the adjustment is way off the 2 1/2 turns then there are at the very least, minor problems with the air or fuel delivery. I think more often than not, some crud and somewhat degraded o-rings cause over compensation when adjusting the pilot jets. Cheers Clive
  6. Dano: Don't forget us Canucks still need a shipping price.
  7. Looks to me like the left hand ones are good while the right hand ones are not. Light tan is a good colour, white usually means lean. Assuming that is, you are burning gasoline and not alcohol. I haven't come to terms yet with a high percentage of alcohol.
  8. I still have a lot to learn about Ventures, thanks for setting me straight randya. If that is the case then I have no ideas on why anyone would overfill a brake reservoir.
  9. When I got my VR The M/C was filled to above the window so no level could be seen. It was very clear and looked like there may have been no fluid in it. The day after getting it home, I started the bike and the brake warning light came on so I opened up the M/C and it was indeed over full. Turned out the rear reservoir was down. My suspicion is that when the warning came on the PO added fluid to the front system which may have bled through to the rear enough to turn off the warning. I wonder how often that happens. If the M/C is level, there is no point in adding fluid above 1/2 - 2/3 up the window.
  10. From what I have heard this situation can easily occur if the M/C is over filled. There is a flexible reservour gasket that give some space for expansion and after that is used up the system begins to pressurize. Without the dramatic event you endured, it can just wear the brakes out in half the time.
  11. Thanks for the pn. I had to get the first filtre for my Virago from the dealer for almost $18 cuz non of the other outlets listed one for motorcycles. Been using Rotella-T from Walmart, seems to be a decent oil for a reasonable price.
  12. OK, you have me curious enough to ask about a right side lean stand. I've never heard of that. Is it your invention? Inquiring minds want to know.
  13. I have heard the epoxy gas tank sealer from Caswell Electroplating works better than Kreem. I have never used either, just passing it on.
  14. While on the subject of changing the 1st gen oil filtre, I have not changed mine yet. Is there a good place to get them for a reasonable price and what would the part number be?
  15. I have the Stebel Magnums on my Virago. They are plastic and do not weigh very much. I'm going to assume I have the stock horns in their original position on my VR and there should be no problem installing the Magnums in their place. I'm planning on putting some on this Winter. Oh yes, they sound good and I like them. Here is a pic of them on my Virago: http://viragotechforum.com/phpBB/album_pic.php?pic_id=5278
  16. I understand your point, this bike is the first one I have had to deal with the complexities of a computer and all the other gadjets and comcomitant wiring. It's kinda overwhelming. I'm in the process of inspecting all the wiring and cleaning connections. Haven't gotten to the computer and don't have any known issues so did not want to pull it although probably should to make sure the harness sockets are clean. This headlight issue caught my attention and it seems to be more complicated than necessary and thought a few questions now might be useful in the future if, or is it when, something related comes up. Thanks for the reply, guess I'll just hang on, keep cleaning and perhaps have a look at it when working in the area.
  17. When bolts or shafts are seized some careful heat around the perimeter first before applying some penetrating oil often helps. If a hammer is required to provide more pursuasion, using a brass drift to hammer on is much safer.
  18. Hmm, just remembered 87a is normally closed wihen the relay powers up 87. In any event running a lead to the coil from 87 would do as intended. Is this topic not of much interest or is everyone who knows something about the way the computer monitor works out touring?
  19. I'm sure there are lots of competent guys on here. I'm just asking questions so I can understand better how my new to me Venture operates. I was not thinking of messing with the PCB. If all the current to the light goes through the coil, presumeably coming from the switch, then I was thinking the supply from the switch to the coil could energize a relay with 87 going to the light and 87a going to the coil with the original supply line from the coil to the light going to ground. Perhaps that won't work but from the description you gave it is a possibility worth exploring.
  20. Before dismantling anything I would first spray some WD40 in the linkage to wash out any crud in there then put some better oil in it. If that doesn't work then consider more intrusive checks.
  21. Oh, so the sensor coil needs to be in series with the headlight to work. The coil and reed switch setup seems like it might be a basic relay, keep in mind I don't know much about my VR yet. If that is the case then wiring the coil to the relay and then to ground should activate the sensor. Is that possible?
  22. My VR is not roadworthy yet so I've only ridden it around a parking lot a few times. My xv1100 has a rather large windshield/fairing on it which should be just as relevant. The top of the windshield is even with my lips so I can see over it just fine and there is no buffeting experienced. While adjusting the height, when the top was closer to the level of my chin there was some buffeting. Seems there is a small window of opportunity available to look over without getting battered. Oh yes, I should add that I usually ride with my face shield up and only need to put it down when it's raining.
  23. Building on what Gary said, where does the sensor hook up to tell the computer the headlight is on? Could the sensor be hooked up to the power side of the relay?
