So what you are saying is that all your kits are second hand. Well they are still a good price anyway. :stirthepot: Experience is priceless.

front fork problem, parts needed
camos replied to bald josh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I can only speak about the Virago, haven't gotten into the VR yet. When I changed to progressive springs I added an extra inch because I wanted more preload to better support my weight and reduce frontend dive. The spacer that came with the springs was 1" schedule 80 PVC and the same length as the stock one. The Venture probably would not be any different. -

If all else fails, when I changed my Virago to progressives I found there was only a washer sitting on top of the spring between it and the spacer. The washer looked like an ordinary one and was a loose fit inside the forks. That is a cheap solution that should work just as well on the Venture. -
Steering Head Bearing Nut Wrench (Fork Wrench) Shipping

Mine came to my mailbox yesterday but didn't get it until today. Nicely made little tool. It fits my Virago 1100 as well. Thanks a bunch for doing this for us Gary. -
Here is the link that works. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310201877399&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:MOTORS:1123

Need a bit of help
camos replied to Jason's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So 1 tank with Seafoam and 2 tanks of plain gas? The white smoke can't be caused by the Seafoam. I've never had the smoke last for more than 15 minutes although I suppose it could last for a bit longer than that. Check out this link for possible causes although it pretty much echos what has been said here. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_can_cause_white_smoke_from_the_exhaust -
Need a bit of help
camos replied to Jason's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Seafoam will cause white smoke, sometimes great clouds of it, as the crud it loosens gets burned. If this is the problem there is nothing to worry about and no need to drain the tank. If you can just go for a ride and it should clear up. -
Perhaps the problem is not so much the speaker but the enclosure. Putting a sound deadening foam around and behind the speaker can help get betterr sound out the front by reducing the bad sound from the fairing enclosure. Try some pillow foam which might work ok. Another thing that can affect the quality of sound from a speaker is using minimum 16 gauge wire rather than the 22 gauge wire that often comes in systems.

The small pedal will likely operate a "push button" type relief valve that could be stuck in the open position.
-
Is that the one about the master stonemason who wanted to build a cathedral? If it's the one I'm thinking of I read it 3 times and enjoyed it very much each time.
-
Just a wild guess but have you examined the small release pedal to see if the valve it activates is stuck in the open position?

Shot in the Dark

Mine does but it came with the bike so I don't know if it is a Yamaha part. -
I ran my own small business for 25 years. I did my own books using a double entry bookkeeping program which is auditable. Starting from scratch with no prior knowledge it did take a while to understand how it works and learn how to set it up so it did not choke. If you or your wife understand how that system works it wont be too difficult to do. You can also pay her a stipend for the work. Definitely get a good tax accountant, recommendations from people you know are best. Don't do it yourself because laws change every year and you probably won't keep up with them even if you understand what they mean. Good luck in your new enterprise.

What I was wondering was if you, or anyone else, had found super bright amber LED's. I like the idea of having D/R lights that can be kept on all the time and amber is my preference. Perhaps since I have not found any, no one makes any but it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks for the response Earl, looks like you have a good setup.

I've noticed a few bikes with headlight and passing lamp rigs that pretty much wash out the front turn signals at night. That would be a concern to me. Often thought the 2nd gen lower leg fairing, or whatever it is called, would be a good place to mount a set of daylight running lights. Might even be able to mount them flush. Course, I don't have a 2nd gen so it's just a thought.

The top white lights look like LED's. Ever seen similar but amber, anyone? I have amber fog lights but they are 55w so only run them at night or on the highway due to charging paranoia.

So it's like a live performance, not just music. Sorry, that went over my head. Just a shot in the dark: assuming the computer has one, have you put the DVD into your PC and looked at the files on it? They might be usable for iTunes to get the music from as it does handle video.
-
I can't speak to the Shuffle but I have the larger classic iPod and would expect the method to work the same. Use Itunes which is free and meant to be used to put music on the iPod, create playlists and take music from a CD and put it into iTunes on your PC. It's quite easy to use. With an Internet connection iTunes will connect to the online Apple store where music can be purchased and downloaded. Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and read about it.

1st an 2nd Genaration tell the different??
camos replied to ronjolly's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Knock off of what? I've never seen a stock Harley that looked like the Virago which was the first "factory" chopper style bike. That makes it original unlike the 1st gen that is knocked off the Gold Wing and the 2nd gen that is knocked off the Harley. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Imitation with improvements has got to be even better. I still like my Virago 1100, it's the best weeny bike going. -
Robert Ludlum spy series - fiction Jean M. Auel Earth Children series - historical fiction Louie L'Amour - I liked the Sackett series the best Wilbur Smith - historical fiction southern Africa - The Courtney and Ballantyne series. James A. Michener - Hawaii, The Source, Centennial, Chesapeake, Texas, Alaska, Caravans So many books, so little time. Here are a couple more I thought of: C.S. Forester - Hornblower series - historical fiction in the Admiral Nelson era. Ellis Peters - nom de plume of Edith Pargeter - Cadfael (monkish Sherlock, somewhat historical) mysteries in 12th century England. Many have been made into TV series and movies. Dudley Pope - Nicholas Ramage series of historical sea novels in the Napoleonic war era. Hmmm... seem to be a lot of historical novels there.

The incredibly cold blooded is more likely a symptom of the 5 Bikes carb mod than a stock bike. I live just across the pond and it is not cold here, a bit cool, mid 40's. Had a look through the thread and did not see any mention of when the popping occurs. If it is on decel there are a few possible causes other than or in addition to carbs, vacuum leaks, exhaust leaks and poor connections at the TCI. On a bike that has been sitting for a long time it is not unusual to have to clean the carbs more than twice before they are done right. There are some very small passages that will affect the pilot air mixture if they are not clean enough. Just a few more things to look at, as if you didn't have enough to do already.

The Google maps pix are better than Bing map pix, at least, they are newer. The Bing pix of my house are 2-3 years old while the Google pix are from last summer. The Google close-up view of my house caught me bending over my bike with my butt in the air, fortunately, in the shadows of the portico. With these eye-in-the-sky Peeping Toms, sunbathing on the decks in less than decent attire is probably not advisable.

bike will not start.
camos replied to BigBMattie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
A hotter plug will often work better with a less than perfect ignition system also better in colder temps. In very hot summer temps the hotter plug may cause pre-ignition. I've been running a 1 up hotter plug with no problems in my Virago for years because it is the only one available around here without a resistor.
