  1. I have often wondered the same thing. The angle of the dash seems to wrong for a lot of conditions. Have been thinking of trying to rotate the instrument panel so the face is more vertical. Don't know if that is possible, any thoughts on this?
  2. Left home at 10am and returned at 5pm, burned up a tank and a half of gas. Had a lovely lady following me around the whole time. First time riding two-up, Mary loved it. Looks like I now have a co-pilot and we will both be attending Kruzin the Kootenays in Nelson this Summer. Life is good.
  3. Do it first whether or not you intend on replacing components it will need to be done anyway or the new components may not work as well as they might... or at all. The charging system is after all a "system" and all parts of the system are equally important to it operating properly.
  4. No kidding. Was just reading another thread about the Tomtom 550 XXL. On amazon.com it was $104 and on amazon.ca it was $182. Sigh
  5. Ha, ha ha! You got it Brian. I was going to put quotes around "Eastern" but decided to play it straight. Didn't know CT was related to Part Source. I'll check them out.
  6. Part Source only has outlets in Eastern Canada. Bummer!
  7. Good to know about the upgraded zipper. There are several models of Frogg Toggs. Which one do you have and do you know what the differences are between them? The descriptions for each are fairly similar but there is quite a variation in price between the regular Frogg Toggs at the low end and the Elite Highway ones at the high end. I expect you probably know only about the model you have but thought you might know something about the other models. Just thought I would ask. Did you deal with a Canadian distributor American distributor or directly with Frogg Toggs? Mostly I am interested here in the difference between shipping costs. I recently bought a couple of items from LeatherUp which cost $51 shipping across the border instead of the free shipping in the lower 48.
  8. Gotcha. I'm guessing it's probably less fuss working the axle and nut out than taking off the left muffler if it is stuck like the right muffler is. Thanks.
  9. That's what I thought but working room for what? Looks to me like the only thing on the left side to deal with is the axle nut and pin. Of course, I have been wrong many times before.
  10. I've been looking for lightweight rain gear and thought the Frogg Toggs would be good but have been reading some user reviews that indicate some of them leak quite a bit while others don't. Also there have been several mentions of broken zippers as well. Since there are several models of Frogg Toggs does anyone know if one is better than the other? Getting a good suit seems somewhat hit or miss.
  11. To begin with I was prying with a small crowbar and the piston wasn't moving. After whining a bit, went back out and tried again also using a large flat blade screwdriver. The two together were able to make some progress when applied to each individual piston. Initially I was trying to separate the two old pads which meant pushing on two pistons at once. Probably managed to cant the piston with too much pressure applied on one side. I tried the C-clamp but the ones I have are all too big. Good idea though and before I do the brakes again I'll get the right sized one. Since the brakes were bled about 6 months ago decided to take the filler cap out of the master cylinder. Put a tissue in the hole to soak up the excess fluid which worked pretty well as what came out was used to clean around the pistons before they went all the way in. Did leave an air space for expansion. Thanks for the tips. Much appreciated. Will be working on getting that darned muffler clamp loose so I can get the rear wheel serviced before I go Kruzin the Kootenays. The manual suggests removing both mufflers before taking the rear wheel off but it looks like there is enough room to get the nut off the axle on the left side without removing the muffler. Is the manual right?
  12. I can't get a wrench on the backside of the clamp but was able to get a 12mm 1/4 inch drive socket on the bolt head. Unfortunately, while it will move a little, it won't undo. Rather than taking a chance of breaking the bolt just before the long weekend I have decided to just replace the brake pads today and leave pulling the wheel for a later date. I'll keep soaking it with WD40. I got the caliper off and the pads out but am having trouble pressing the pistons back in. Scraped gently and cleaned around the pistons as much as I could. Is there some trick to making room for the new pads?
  13. Best I can tell the bolt is a 12mm just tried the other sizes because the 12 wouldn't go on. Did try feeling on the other side for a nut but wasn't sure what there was up there. Thanks I'll have a look at the backside.
  14. I need to replace the rear brake pads so thought I may as well pull the wheel and grease the bearings and splines as well. Can't get a socket on the muffler clamp. Tried an 11mm, 12mm and 13mm but none will go on properly. Does it need a thin socket? I have a regular Craftsman set.
  15. I purchased some chaps and boots from them the day before yesterday paid by Visa with no problem. Did try a few days before the end of the month when the sale was on but it kept going to the login page. If I logged in again the cart was empty. Looks like they were having problems with their site. Cost $20 more than it should have... Oh well.
  16. About 6 months ago I ordered 2 ballasts from HID Country. The ballasts never came and they did not answer any of my emails. Sicced VISA on them to get my payment back. Won't be dealing with HID Country again.
  17. So did you manage to Wing it this weekend? It was two days of glorious weather here. So much nicer when riding on completely dry roads. Here in the Camelot of B.C., weather bad enough to prevent two wheeled traffic is against the law. That said, we did have a week this Winter when it was too chancy for me to be out on a bike.
  18. Perhaps you should take that thought seriously Rick. Was reading tonight that the next 3 months from Manitoba to the Maritimes is expected to be somewhat warmer than usual while for VI and the Mainland it will be cooler than usual. Similar to the way the Winter progressed. No word on what that means for the Summer season though since a warmer Summer might be a bit too, too much for comfort.
  19. My Venture pretty much lives in the rain for several months at a time so the clutch lever starts squeaking on a regular basis, every two to three of weeks or so. A little engine oil seems to fix it for a while. I think the lever pivot bushing on mine is somewhat worn and should be replaced since it will drop out of cruise control when we hit a bump. Also some times it is necessary to hold the lever out to get the cruise engaged.
  20. I would like one please.
  21. I disconnected the anti-dives at the connector in the fairing behind the headlight a couple of months ago and have not noticed any difference in handling. That could mean one of the previous owners had installed progressive springs but the person I purchased the bike from made no mention of such a feature. The reason I decided to disconnect them was to reduce the drain on the battery in stop and go traffic. Now when stopped with the brakes engaged the charging system sits at over 13v instead of 12v or less. Seems to be a good thing to do. Some day I may remove the anti-dive contraption on the forks.
  22. Very good idea, count me in too.
  23. That would be the symbol for brake fluid. There are two reservoirs, one on the right handlebar for the front brake and one located on the right side middle for the rear brake.
  24. I think credit cards are probably the safest form of currency exchange to use. At least the Canadian ones are because they are all insured, can't speak to the US bank cards. Always inform your CC issuer regarding your trip departure and return. Someone wants your card, give it to them. Call your CC company and cancel it. Keep an eye on the monthly invoice for false charges. Real money has no safeguards like electronic money. Regarding cash, use pesos and get them at your bank in Canada usually for a better rate than is available in Mexico. Not much point in buying USD then changing them into pesos for a double exchange payment. Also, when buying pesos in Mexico you could be at risk of either observation or tip off to robbers about your newly acquired wad of cash.
  25. I'm thinking a better solution is to install two HID lights which will add up to the same voltage as the original light. Shouldn't have a problem with the warning light then. Likely should disable the RLU though. That's what I am going to do when I get over my issues with HID Country.
