Had a chat with Mary today about attending and it looks like we are both in. Motel 6 is more our speed. I've been thinking of taking an extra couple of days on either side of the rally to make a few stops on the way there and back. This is the route I have tentatively laid out. Anyone got any suggestions for interesting roads, places or things to see along the way?

May is too soon, the Beartooth might not even be open at that time. When we were there during the Cody International in July there was quite a bit of snow on the sides of the road past Red Lodge to the summit. When Mary and I went to Cruzen the Kootenays in June through the North Cascades we just about froze ourselves. During the trip to Cody the previous year in July the same area was just on the cool side. Quite a difference a month can make. I would also like to bring to your attention that Venture West will happen June 19th-21st in The Dalles Oregon. Hint, hint. As for 89 or 191 my choice would be 191 just because less of it is in a valley. Not being the navigator for the trip I can't remember which of the two we took. Either SilvrT or Sailor would be able to confirm which one we took though. Whichever it was a nice ride for a motorcycle.

That only works if there is someone around to help. Since I'm just me the preferred method is to duck-walk it for short distances or powered duck-walk for longer distances. Walking the bike just holding onto the handlebars does work OK too but if you get off balance to the off side there is little that can be done to stop it going over... unless your name happens to be Arnold. I don't mind going there, 57 is not old. Its a little older than 47 and not quite as old as 67. In 10 years when I get to 77 I'll let you know if there is much difference.

Great info Kevin, now if I can just get my CB to work. Now to find out if it will connect to a GPS with voice commands. Can't believe Garmin has not included that feature in their Zumo or even better in the Nuvi. That is unfortunately the case as I understood it in an email from a Sena tech.

I feel for you brother, literally. The fat man has the honour to be first on my naughty list which means he will get the bestest prize. We do need to put our heads together to come up with something suitably perfidious to permanently dissuade him from following his evil ways. Hope you feel better soon Paul.

So you saying you are too old to thrust on your own and need a gismo to help you out? I got the flu and a double dose of pink eye. Someone felt some sympathy and gave me a bottle of Tequila so I figure I came out ahead.

I bought two of these units too. They work for better than 8 hrs on a charge (max estimated at 12hrs) but came with a 12v charger and a wall charger and the sound is great. Come as a single or double pack. http://senabluetooth.com/product/intercoms/smh10/ http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-intercoms/sena-smh10-intercom/sena-smh10-part-2.htm

MarCarl beat me to it. Being a CanAm I can relate too.

Light-Pros used to be named HID Country which was a shoddy rip-off company then and it appears it still is one. What's in a name, must be the people who run it.

Battery question
camos replied to fixit3546's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thought I would chime in with this: I have been looking for a Deka ETX18L battery too and the best price I could find in Canada was $109.50 at Sask Battery which includes Canada wide free shipping. Seems like a good deal to me. -
Whoa!! Hold up there Mr. Self Centred, don't be trying to make money from other peoples misery. I too can enjoy $!%w in other parts of the country. OK, so I do admit to not being perfect... sometimes.

tune and tire time
camos replied to Black wing's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have been running E3's on my Venture and my Virago for two years and have found them to be excellent on wet roads. The tread pattern does seem to be minimal but the tires have variable density compounds with softer on either side of a harder center so they wear well on the highway and grip well in the corners. The tread pattern is similar to what I see on most modern sport bikes so I suspect that would also indicate that it grips OK. As for x-country, the Venture excels on the highway so that's where I keep it. The dirt bikes and dual sports can have the off road experience all to themselves. -
CLASS E1 Repair
camos replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I tried unsuccessfully to repair my CLASS a few times using a $10 soldering iron. While the cheapo soldering iron would eventually get hot enough the heat was so dispersed that it would start to melt everything in the near vicinity. I bought a $60 soldering iron, which is about mid-range for price, and Bada-Boom it worked with no muss, no fuss. I felt like an expert. Try it you will like it. -
Sena makes an adapter that will plug into a 5 pin audio system: http://senabluetooth.com/product/adapters/sm10/ They also have a new version that is made to connect to various FRS/GMRS radios: http://senabluetooth.com/product/adapters/sr10/

My Virago has buckhorn bars which some consider to be mini-apes or perhaps monkey bars. I angled them back so there is more pullback than rise which works better for me. There are bars available with whatever rise you might want. Take a look at this link for Bagger Bars which are not so high but still rather unique looking.

Possibly the tube is the overflow for the coolant bottle.

I used just the new gasket with no glue... no leaks so far. Around the plugs I used high temp RTV. Cleaned the area around the plugs with brake kleen because it leaves no residue. Dealer had the gasket for a bit less than online plus shipping.

Spark Plug Wires
camos replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Speaking of boots, do new ones come with new caps or do you have to get them from somewhere special? -
Not necessary but I like the idea of two relays because I mounted a Magnum inside the fairing paired with the OEM horn on each side which gives me 4 horns on two circuits. Lots of sound and a backup if one of the relays quits.
-
If the terminals are turned down the the terminal covers will be turned up and will probably collect more water. Better to keep them mounted the way they are and cover the terminals. On my bike I mounted the relays to the front face of the fairing pockets and ran just the wires down to the horn connectors. I've seen a rubber cup, like a bell, that would work very well to weatherproof the connectors but unfortunately I can't recall what it was actually for.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-usBDlyufs&feature=player_detailpage]Here is another 3 wheel car that is in development. [/ame] This vehicle is expected to get 92 miles per gallon and is very sporty looking but will probably cost more than the Elio.
