Just received my new Teknic HiViz jacket from RevZilla.com and really like it. Never bought from RevZilla or heard anything about them before so thought I would bring this online retailer to your attention. The Freeway jacket is on clearance sale right now for US$159 which is about half price in the USA and way less than in Canada where I found it online for regular price CDN$429. They only have size 48 and 50 left. Those sizes don't seem to be used much so to give you an idea what they are about, I am 6' 3", 210 lb with a 40" waist I previously was wearing a Teknic jacket size 52 which was overly large. The jacket I purchased was 50 with a nice loose fit. Another reviewer of the jacket, who is about the same size as I am, purchased a size 48 and reported that it fit well. In my opinion the size 48 would also have been a good fit for me but more on the snug side. RevZilla has a promo video of the jacket so if anyone is interested in a warm waterproof jacket, they should check it out here.

Nice method of folding the chaps but isn't it a better idea to just wear them? I don't get the value of using the folded chaps as a pillow while riding. I bet you will never get them back on while crashing.

The pads are packaged in pairs so you will need 3 of them.

Thought I would mention: Just made my reservation at Motel 6 and the rate is $59.39 + tax for Thursday but goes up to $62.99 + tax for Friday and Saturday. Gonna have to work some overtime.

I know this is an old thread but it came up when I started to create a new thread so.... I ordered a Deka ETX18L AGM battery from saskbattery.com just before Christmas and it arrived at my post box just before or just after New Years Day. Not sure when exactly cuz it never got checked. Anyway, the cost was CDN$109.50 + $5.48 tax with no shipping cost. Seems that about US$95 + $50 from US retailer shipping to US address is around the norm so the price I paid would seem to be quite good for us Canucks. As an added bonus the Deka ETX18L just happens to be the model that also fits my 96 Virago 1100. Ain't it grand when something just falls into place for no good reason.

Had a chat with Mary today about attending and it looks like we are both in. Motel 6 is more our speed. I've been thinking of taking an extra couple of days on either side of the rally to make a few stops on the way there and back. This is the route I have tentatively laid out. Anyone got any suggestions for interesting roads, places or things to see along the way?

May is too soon, the Beartooth might not even be open at that time. When we were there during the Cody International in July there was quite a bit of snow on the sides of the road past Red Lodge to the summit. When Mary and I went to Cruzen the Kootenays in June through the North Cascades we just about froze ourselves. During the trip to Cody the previous year in July the same area was just on the cool side. Quite a difference a month can make. I would also like to bring to your attention that Venture West will happen June 19th-21st in The Dalles Oregon. Hint, hint. As for 89 or 191 my choice would be 191 just because less of it is in a valley. Not being the navigator for the trip I can't remember which of the two we took. Either SilvrT or Sailor would be able to confirm which one we took though. Whichever it was a nice ride for a motorcycle.

That only works if there is someone around to help. Since I'm just me the preferred method is to duck-walk it for short distances or powered duck-walk for longer distances. Walking the bike just holding onto the handlebars does work OK too but if you get off balance to the off side there is little that can be done to stop it going over... unless your name happens to be Arnold. I don't mind going there, 57 is not old. Its a little older than 47 and not quite as old as 67. In 10 years when I get to 77 I'll let you know if there is much difference.

Great info Kevin, now if I can just get my CB to work. Now to find out if it will connect to a GPS with voice commands. Can't believe Garmin has not included that feature in their Zumo or even better in the Nuvi. That is unfortunately the case as I understood it in an email from a Sena tech.

I bought two of these units too. They work for better than 8 hrs on a charge (max estimated at 12hrs) but came with a 12v charger and a wall charger and the sound is great. I have been running E3's on my Venture and my Virago for two years and have found them to be excellent on wet roads. The tread pattern does seem to be minimal but the tires have variable density compounds with softer on either side of a harder center so they wear well on the highway and grip well in the corners. The tread pattern is similar to what I see on most modern sport bikes so I suspect that would also indicate that it grips OK. As for x-country, the Venture excels on the highway so that's where I keep it. The dirt bikes and dual sports can have the off road experience all to themselves.

I tried unsuccessfully to repair my CLASS a few times using a $10 soldering iron. While the cheapo soldering iron would eventually get hot enough the heat was so dispersed that it would start to melt everything in the near vicinity. I bought a $60 soldering iron, which is about mid-range for price, and Bada-Boom it worked with no muss, no fuss. I felt like an expert. Try it you will like it.

My Virago has buckhorn bars which some consider to be mini-apes or perhaps monkey bars. I angled them back so there is more pullback than rise which works better for me. There are bars available with whatever rise you might want. Take a look at this link for Bagger Bars which are not so high but still rather unique looking.

Possibly the tube is the overflow for the coolant bottle.
