Kerry, not saying it can't be a virus but presumably you have an anti-virus program installed and yet you find it necessary to search the Internet for information. Your resident and up-to-date AV prog should have identified a virus as soon as it showed up. That's curious don't you think?

Having been laid up for 7 days after 2 days of sunshine and 3 days of dry roads I got to ride to work today. Woo-Hoo!!! There is still 3" of snow in the back yard but the rest of it is mostly green. Should be 2 more days of sun before getting back to our normal Wet Coast weather.

Some photo viewers act like a database and will display the same pic as multiples if that pic is in several different dirs which makes the same pic uniquely named. It is not necessary to uninstall the Lenovo photo viewer to use Win PicViewer. Just open the PicViewer, navigate to the dir your pix are in and open them directly. Even easier, open Windows File Explorer and go to your Pic dir and view the files as thumbnails. If there are multiple copies in the same dir that would indicate an oopsie but if there are only individual pix then that would indicate what you are seeing is just the way Lenovo photo viewer works. Knowing where the multiple copies of the pix are located will be helpful in sleuthing what is going on.

When you have multiple instances of a pic in the same dir they will all need a unique name. If you check the names it is likely you will see one with the original name and all the rest will have Copy 1 of...Copy 2 of... etc. This can easily happen in several ways the most common is to mis-mouse when selecting and accidentally dragging which will copy a file to the same dir it was already in ending up with Copy of.... That is likely a Win10 sort thing which I am not familiar with other than trying it for a week on my old school PC and not liking it.

1986 Free the Venture Restoration
camos replied to Asher1877's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes, it was only the Royale that had the CLASS. @asher: I have the Schrader valve fork attachment for a Standard Venture and I'm pretty sure I know where it is. I'll send it to you if it will help. -
Have to admit that I could not find part 25 on the layout but suspect it is part of the anti-dive mechanism. Anti-dives are a convenience not a necessity. The one proviso is that both forks work the same. If the missing pieces are actually part of the anti-dive then both sides should be disabled. You will be better off finding a set of MkII forks than spending money on refurbishing the MkI anti-dives. Assuming you are taking pix with your phone, I expect they can be easily rotated in the gallery edit feature before uploading them.

1986 Free the Venture Restoration

If your debate is "do I want a bike and can I afford it or not" then only you can decide. Nothing in life is free so if you want to ride then $150 or even $500 is pretty much as close to free as you will get, no matter what you ride. If the engine, transmission, clutch, shocks and charging system are operational then you can make this bike workable without investing a lot of money. The air ride is not a must have. I have ridden both my 89 and 90 with no air pressure in the suspension and they worked well, even on a Costco trip. The only time pressuring up the suspension is at all necessary is when fully loaded for a trip with two up. Take note of the several bobber threads where almost every non-essential thing has been removed. Do not despair too quickly. -
Boy oh boy Snyper, this has all the Hallmarks of a great Canadian whine - a super sob story with no substantive substance. This is not the only thread where the merits of Rotella have been described. Along with several others, I know that I have mentioned it on more than one occasion in more than one thread during the time you have been on this board. It's a well entrenched part of the "Great Oil Debate".

Could just be part of the general banking rules. About ten years ago I got into a dispute with Visa over some triviality and told them I would never use their card again. Totally unplanned, I had a balance of -$0.52. Visa has been sending me a statement every month telling me I have a credit of 52 cents. I don't think they can close the account without paying me the $0.52 and I have the intention of never using that account or of closing it. Every month it costs Visa far more than the value owing in the account to send me a statement.

Problems with the Trike.
camos replied to Brenda H's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Before blaming the starter, have you checked that the battery is fully charged and the terminals are clean. The easiest way to check is to run jumpers from a car battery. Car should not be running at the time. If the engine starts and runs then the problem is either the battery its or connections including the one from the neg terminal to the engine. If it doesn't start then there is possibly a problem with the starter or the starter solenoid. Check the inexpensive things before tackling a new starter or solenoid. -
Thank goodness we don't have that much Kretz. We do now have a foot of snow. I was amazed today to see a pair of snow plows running in tandem down the main road near my house. Didn't think the municipality had any equipment like that. When it snows I have to take the bus part way to work then walk for a couple of miles. Trudging through snow and ice at 11:00 pm or 7:30 am is not my idea of fun. Can't wait for the rain so I can get back on the bike. I'm a Wet Coaster not an Eskimo.

We are in the middle of receiving 4 inches on top of the 4 inches we got the day before yesterday and it's still coming down. I know, it's sad, but I'm used to being spoiled and like it. Totally not ready to give it up.

Cracked and broken plastic is one of the things you will need to deal with. There are a few different methods of repairing ABS plastic and have been explained quite well in quite a few threads. Doing a search for plastic repair should find what you need to know. Repairing ABS is actually quite easy once you get onto it. Radio and CB parts can be purchased on eBay but they are all old parts that may or may not work so it is questionable whether they are worth buying. Rather than chasing after old technology there are a few small marine stereos that can be fit into the area available on the Venture. As for CB's, I don't recall mention of any that will fit easily in the dash. There is one that can be clamped to the handlebar. Quite a few riders are using the Bluetooth headset instead. They only have a range of a mile or two but are adequate for group rides.

When I get these kind of messages I mark them as spam or junk mail which then bans anything sent from the poster for ever and also deletes the message. As already mentioned, never ever click on a link. I've had a few purportedly from PayPal and Amazon that looked very authentic but weren't. If at all concerned about the message logging into the account separately from the email is the safest way to check it out. Also previously mentioned... great advice from those in the know on here.

This page might be helpful in you quest for ideas: http://www.kloppenberg.us/chopper.html This links to zaggers Venture chopper but all the pix are missing. Perhaps they can be recovered by the boss or one of his elves.

What is it about displacement that gets guys excited? I've mentioned this before, in my opinion the FJR 1300 would make a good baseline for a new touring bike. If you are reasonably happy with The Venture which has only 90 HP then how much better would you like it with 145 HP? Not to mention a lower center of gravity and all the necessities for a good touring bike... except that it's too short and has crappy seating and and even worse storage. Yamaha could take the front half of the FJR and attach the rear end of a MkII and create a new touring bike with everything needed. Wouldn't be too difficult to lower the seat a bit to fit the inseam challenged. Not too much new engineering needed to produce that hybrid. Probably the biggest negative to doing this is it would not have cruiser styling. Yamaha has the Star brand which offers cruiser styling and a V-twin so they would be covered on both fronts. On another front, too bad Motus doesn't put their engine into a cruiser for either cruising or touring. Listen to that 1650 cc 160 HP bad boy on the link just below the pic of the engine. It even gets my worn out old heart going pitter-patter. For the adventurous, Motus sells crated engines. Wonder how hard they would be to put into an RSV? Yamaha has done a good job in the past building motorcycles from a parts bin so why not build a modern touring bike from the left over bits from the Venture.

Rotella T 15W-40 (Dino) is also being successfully used in many bikes. It appears Shell has revamped the Rotella lineup and it looks like what used to be known as Rotella T is now Rotella T4. Diesels are dirty and require heavy duty cleaning properties. They also are high torque so more pressure on moving parts. Perfect specs for motorcycles and at a really good price.

The banjo bold should definitely never be sealed using a joint compound of any kind. It has copper washers to handle sealing. Any time Teflon tape or any other joint compound is used, anywhere, the last thread on the inside should be left bare. Another point that is sometimes missed is when wrapping threads, apply the wrap in the direction that will tighten it up when snugging down the bolt or nut. One more thing when using Teflon, don't over tighten. It's easy to split things due to the reduced friction. Who knew something so simple could be made so complicated.

You are right on the mark Puc. I wasn't sure from the description in the post whether any extra disassembly was required in order to get to the "L" piece. Seems it should be reasonably open to access though. That's an old post so kudos to the boss for keeping track of these small but important items.

So......? Spaceships use Rotella as well?
-
Very useful post Puck. Had no idea where the rear master relief vent was. How hard is it to get that L-part out? I read somewhere the fluid level on the rear reservoir should be about 1/8" below the filler hole. That's what I aim for and have not had the rear brakes seize due to overheating.... except for once when I misadjusted the pedal play.

Cleaning and Bleeding Brakes
camos replied to camos's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Good to know, thanks Bob. I've been dealing with sticky pistons on all three calipers and have spent way too many hours cleaning them by sliding them in and out so I figure popping the pistons is probably what should be done now. Do you know if the O-rings are special and are they available in sets? -
Cleaning and Bleeding Brakes
camos replied to camos's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Perhaps "rebuilding" wasn't what I had in mind then. What I was thinking was just cleaning the bore and replacing the piston o-rings. The pistons do pop out individually don't they?
