  1. If the pistons on the new calipers will not press into the caliper there is a good possibility they may get sticky on your trip. If that happens the pads could wear out before the end of the trip. It may not be necessary to replace the pads immediately but before starting an extended trip it would be a good idea to make sure the pistons are working freely otherwise you might find yourself doing the job on the road.
  2. Moved my Venture from the driveway into the back yard so I could get my neighbours truck in to load the remains of the hedge that came down during the snow event we had last winter. It took me almost a month to sort out and cut the branches that came down. Well, I only worked at it for about 3 hours per day. It took almost a whole day to pull the brush from the pile then cut and load it into the truck and that was only the half of it. Was a beautiful day for riding but since I got to enjoy the sight of my Gen 1 while doing the job, all was not lost. Another load tomorrow and it will be done then back to riding on my days off.

    2018

And then in 2020 Yamaha will realize they made a mistake and produce it as a Gen 3 with the Max'ed V4. Unfortunately that won't be available until 2025.
  4. Really? There in nothing on the new Yamaharley that came from either a Gen 1 or a Gen 2. It's a ploy, the evil low life Yamaha mad men harvested the name for its creds. Not a very honest thing for Yamaha to do.
  5. Because when you push a bike it will lean to the left and get dirt on the left side of the tire. Of course you may not have pushed it so that was just a guess.
  6. Sure if the dirt was on the left side of the tire.
  7. They work so well that both of the ones I had were stolen so I don't bother with them anymore. They are not meant to allow you to take your hand off the throttle so they are not in any way a cruise control. The best benefit is your finger grip can be relaxed and the pressure transferred to the heel of your hand.
  8. Decided Bob had covered this well enough so removed it.
  9. Yea on the Bluetooth. Headsets are the only way to go if you like good sound while on the highway. The rest of it looks good too. Might have to try to get a ride on one to see how it fits me.
  10. Lately I've been thinking about a lighter bike but there is nothing style wise that really grabs me. The CTX 1300 comes the closest in looks but only with the larger windshield, the OEM one is just stupid. The side bags are kinda small and the bike is only about 100 pounds lighter than my VR. It's likely less top heavy though so would probably be quite a bit easier to handle. There don't seem to be many around here and certainly no significantly discounted ones. Found a new one in Vancouver asking CAD $14,000 and a few in WA for about USD $9200. Been scratching my head about the sense of spending a bunch of dollars on a bike that is so much less than my USD $1800 89 VR. In any case, I've probably got 2 or 3 more years before I will need to downsize. One thing I have been wondering is whether the Bluetooth system will transmit to a head set. I expect the answer is probably not but would like to know.
  11. Oh Canada.

    Anemic??

Seems to me the higher RPM engines tend to develop their output at the upper end so they would experience a "punch" once the RPMs get up there. The Yamaharley would be not so likely to have much extra to give a "punch" at the higher RPMs because it is already putting out what it can. Had a look for the torque specs on the Venture and failed. I know I've seen them but it would seem torque and hp specs are not considered important enough for general distribution. I do remember the Venture does not come close to 126 lbs though. The only main steam v-twin I have ridden was a loaner 900 Vulcan and that was just putting around town. My 1100 Virago is a v-twin but it is more like half a Venture engine with the same red line but without the water cooling and acts more like the Venture when accelerating. Of course it has only 60 hp so the punch isn't quite as dramatic as the 90 hp Venture but it does have half the weight so that helps. Anyway, the Vulcan seemed to be a little bit peppier than my Virago at town speeds and off the line.
  13. Exactly my thoughts too although it seems there are always some negatives that come to light after someone purchases one. Anyway, it always confounded me that Honda chose to discontinue the CTX 1300 so quickly. I see that the E3 comes in 130/70R 18 for the front but don't have a 17" tire for the rear. Too bad. Seems to me you could run bias ply instead of radial if there was a benefit to doing so.

    Anemic??

But the torque is way more than the Gen 1 and that is your go-power measurement. Saw a You Tube video with a really old guy on a really old Harley consistently blow away a young guy on a 4 cyl hot rod sport bike in a from stop street drag. The young guy couldn't believe it and came back for a re-try three times.
  15. Not so good depending on how much they cost. I get close to 20,000 miles on my Venture's E3's, $164 front and $155 rear from fortnine.ca. The Metzlers looked to be more expensive than the Dunlops on fortnine but didn't find the actual tire sizes you mentioned. How do you like the CTX1300? It is the closest to what I would like if I were to replace my 89 VR except for the fact that they are not being made anymore.

    Anemic??

Seems to me the Yamaharley should be able to smoke a Gen 1 all the up to as fast as you dare to go. More displacement = more hp and more torque (126 ft/lb up to red line) plus an extra overdrive gear. The V-4 Motus 1700 has 126 ft/lb torque and 180 hp with no heat problems. Too bad Yamaha bailed on the 3G Venture, could have been totally awesome. Perhaps Motus will build the touring bike that should have been.
  17. Reminds me of the time my youngest son, who was 16 at the time, was very irate at getting a lecture from a LEO for doing the same thing. The cop said the speed limit is 80 and it doesn't matter how you achieve it. Took him a while to get over it. Not sure if it was about the lecture or about coming up with such a lame excuse instead of admitting to his mistake.
  18. I have the enhanced licence and it works just fine for crossing into the USA by road but apparently may not work at airports.
  19. Any thoughts on also using the MMO in the crankcase/transmission? I occasionally have run Seafoam in the engine for a short period before doing an oil change.
  20. Nailed it. The Yamaharley is gorgeous but it is not a Venture. I'll keep grinning while I ride my Venture Royale.
  21. Rather than buying a new ancient bike like the Kawasaki Voyager, my preference is to stick with the best ancient bike, a Yamaha Venture Royale. That saves me another $15,600 on top of the $10,000 I didn't spend on the Yamaharley.
  22. The design looks like a Photoshop merge of a 1st gen and a 2nd gen which is the closest it will ever get to being a Venture because they forgot to put in the important bits. To me the side scoops are slightly too large and the trunk is a little too pointy, however all considered, I think it is simply gorgeous. Too bad is is about $20,000 beyond my budget or I would have one v-twin and all.
  23. Sadly, this is just lame. The easiest way to drive a v4 is not drive it like a v-twin. So what has happened is a Japanese company has just built the best Harley ever, a Yamaharley Venture... so to speak.
  24. That's just fake news from the Yamaha promotion department. Just because they are marketing it as a Venture does not make it a Venture. Seems likely there will never be a true 3rd Gen Venture. Too bad such a brand new design and a beautiful bike in its own right has been consigned to the void without a valid name.
