Does platium or Iridium sparkplugs work better and/or give better mpg than regular sparkplugs?
  3. Hey guys, need info/help. I'm gonna split these up in seperate threads so as to not confuse anyone (myself). #1 Other than a dealer, what would be other good places to purchase bearsings (wheel, steering, swingarm), and gaskets for my 07 Venture?
  4. well, it was 2011. Still gettin used to signing 2012.
  5. I rode one this year at the Bikes, Blues, and BBQ in AK. Nice center of grav and manuvers nicely for the 20 min ride. But not enough power for what I need when going on long rides w/ my wife and trailer. Don't forget the mpg. When asking other owners about it, they seemed disappointed w/ only 35-37 mpg. I do agree Yamaha needs to stop sitting on their brains and update and correct the 13+ years of problems we have w/ the Venture. And STOP downgrading the org. power of the 1300. Or at least gear the second gear for more tq.
  6. Today must be my day to be on Venture Riders. I had this very problem happen when I was In Cody WY. I thought it happened from the Russian HD riders that parked next to me @ the hotel. Later, I was told it was from flexing. It is covered under warranty. Contact the Yamaha office in GA. and they'll give you specifics.
  7. I put on the riser adopters. I did use longer 2" stainless throttle cables from motion pro because the org. cables would bind up slightly and hold open the throttle when truning to the left. My cost was $42.00 incl shipping for both. As said before, the electrical wiring has enough for the adjustment. I think your'e doing the better option because my riser hits the ignition housing. Not enough to interfere w/ the steering because the housing flexes. I couldn't use the chrome housing because it won't flex like the org. black one when hit. I'm gonna order the stainless brake cable to match the look. Good luck and I'm looking foward to your instructional blog.
  8. So far only had my rear shock replaced once. Oil seal blew 50 from home coming in from Atlanta GA. Sorta scary when it happened because I was on a circle off ramp going for gas and the rear wheel started slipping. At the gas station I saw oil dripping friom the shock. Wasn't much but just enough to make my tire slippery for a moment.
  9. Well, I purchased the heavier clutch spring w/ the friction discs and I'm glad I did. I read before hand about doubling the stock spring and I had a concern with the springs moving around enough to do damage at the worst possible place and time. A single heavier spring just made more sense to me. You don't have to get the friction plates if you have a set that's not worn (my original set wasn't). I suggest buying a new set of bolts for the clutch spring. After removing them, I had 2 bent bolt heads and one other broke as I started to torque them in. Yamaha should have used higher strength bolts. After install, get ready for that new clutch grab again.
  10. Hey fellas, just a little advice from the ghostly one. Everyone is on the same line of advice. Always use your debit as a credit. Better yet, just use a credit card and pay it right away when you get home. I've found in my riding adventures even when it was just a $75.00 hold on debits, it took longer to erase the holds than adding the original amounts. There's times when both showed up. I always choose one credit card that I'll use the entire trip and let them know a couple days in advance about my travels. I also check credit limits and request to put "call in" verification on large purchases (for me it's $200.00 or more). Heck I also put "ask for I.D." instead of my signiture on the back of my credit cards. I know it's a pain, but it saved me the pain of fraud situations so far. I've had 2 fraud check calls from my credit card company. One I did and the other was happening in another state while they were talking to me. It's the helmet of protection for credit purches:322:
  11. I agree with the type of gas. Was there 10% ethenol or 99.9% gas (not much is 100%). Also, what octgane (84,87,93)? I'm sure interested and will assist in this experiment. I'm being sponsored to be a MSF Coach and have to drive appox. 145 miles round trip to and from the school for 3 days for 2 weekends following Mother's Day. I'll get back with my results before the Memorial Day weekend.
  12. Hopkins (Hoppy) manufacturing make a taillight converter (#48925) that works with my 4 wire trailer. I got mine from Northern Tools for about $17. Hopkins also have a cheaper model that works the same way for about $12.00. Both work the same. They didn't have the cheaper one in stock at the time so I bought the more expensive one. Colors are; Yellow-Brake, Blue-Tail/running, Green-Right, Brown-Left.
  13. He just got spooked. He pulled in the clutch as he aproched the top and never let it out again. Happened to me when I was on a steep hill in Branson waiting for a car to move at a 4way stop sign.
