  1. Thanks Bucfan11. I just finished installing the lower deflectors and highway pegs today and I will have more fun tomorrow installing the trailer harness that includes installing the 5 to 4 wire converter, the 2" handlebar risers and play w/ the Freewire. The snow is melting nicely here in Milwaukee. I even took a short ride on my winter cycle today.
  2. Hey Bucfan, how was the install? I do understand what Freebird was saying about winter. The frozen rain in WI don't go down the drain that fast either. W/ a detached garage (the wife calls it my toy box), it gets pretty cold, even w/ a propane heater, when working on my toys.
  3. Lookin good! I'm thinking about trading up and getting another RSV or Tour Delux!
  4. Hey Freebird, how simple is it to install the wire harness? I do have a 5 to 4 converter attached to my trailer, but would rather loose the large box attached to the hitch coupler. The cleaner, the better. I also like tight concealed trailer connector. Any photos would be greatly accepted
  5. The service manual states the Venture has hydraulic lifters. It also states "However, there are times when the valve clearance needs to be adjusted manually. If this is the case, adjust the valves using the adjusting screw on the rocker arm.". What does Yamaha mean "...there are times."? I don't think it would be any worst than my previous RSV. I like performing tasks on my cycle because I'm sorta anal about it being put together and done correctly, and I like knowing how to and doing it. I've had bad experiences w/ dealer service departments returning my cycle with missing and incorrectly fastened parts (including my current 2018 Venture... another story).
  6. I'll find out more today. I do hope your correct American, but when I called yesterday, I was told there were 49 state & California CARB makes of SV/SVTC.
  7. What's up guys! I usually read instead of posting. Everyone that chimes in usually post something I'd reply myself. In all the great info here, I haven't seen this posted yet. I just found out I have a California CARB (8th character in my VIN is "Y". "E" is 49 states) & I ordered it from a dealer in WI. My SVTC was the 331st unit. I received it April 30th. I called the Yamaha hotline and they told me there were both 49 state and CA. CARB makes. I was wondering who has the 49 state and who has CA. CARB they received outside of CA.? Is there a difference? If so what are they? I'll call the hotline again this morn to get more info and relay what info I received (had me on hold too long last time I called).
  8. Thanks. I'm in the yellow pages now.
  9. Yep. Not a good thing when sparks fly. Thanks for the info.
  10. Good evening guy/gals. I had a little miss fortune on the way back from Sturgis. I was at a severe slant (high to low, left to right) on a roadside and when a semi passed, the wind blast tipped over my RSV & my helmet was in a perfect position for the lower part of the tank to make contact, leaving a nice dent on the lower rt side of it. Not much paint was damaged, but the dent is a nice size. Does anyone know of a cycle tank body/repair shop in S.E. Wisconsin?
  11. Thank for the advice and help. The Barnett set up seem to be about tension over friction adjustment. I like the feel even during slow skills practice. Just looking for more zone. Back to 1/2 plate it is.
  12. That also was my second choice. I think it'll become my first. When changing to braided steel hoses on my Honda Shadow, the brakes became more sensitive. I change both brake and clutch w/ dot 4 fluid every spring so changing the hose may be a good upgrade.
  13. Hey guys, I need your help and/or comment about getting more friction zone from my 07 RSV. I'm doing maintenance (valve adjust, fork oil change, and clutch replacement) & since I need new plates (I have the clutch spring upgrade) from 2 up +trailer pulling, I'm looking for a way to give me more friction zone. I use my cycle to practice and demo MSF slow skills demos & the zone on my cycle is at the very end and less than an inch. Would a Barnett clutch basket give me more friction zone? Are there any other adjustments or devices I can use? Any help is as always appreciated.
  14. The rep at the Bikes, Blues, and BBQ told me Oct 15 for the new model reviews that I may, or, may not like. On the Yamaha website, the 2015s don't include a RSV.
  15. Prayers are out & the healing has begun.
  16. I checked the rear of the button on the switch itself. I never thought or looked to see if it was sealed the first time I checked. Thanks for the info. I know I'll need it for future use.
  17. well, while checking a 2nd time for continunity, I saw 2 screws holding the talk button and took them out. To my surprise the contacts weren't sealed and green stuff (corrosion) was on the contacts. I cleaned w/ fine sanding paper and va la, a clean contact and a working talk button. Lesson I learned, "Just when you wanna give up, dig a little deeper.":cool10:
  18. Hey guys. I usually find a post that would help me in any previous problems here, but don't see one for this prob. My rider talk button doesn't work/transmit on my CB. I receive fine, just can't respond, not even a ping or "TX". I did a ohm test and it seems to remain open when I close the button/lever. I'll check again in a few. Where can I go for this part? It's sodered, but no prob. I can just heat and remove. Any suggestions other than replacing? In other words "HELP, PLEEEAAASE!"
  19. Great idea! If you're lookin for road support people, add my # to the list.
  20. You're going to a great time! I've been going for 3+ years. It gets bigger and better each year. I'm coming from WI. Though I wouldn't be able to ride w/ you from Houston, We could meet up. I got a hotel in Van Buren which is appox 50 miles away. I'm looking for a hotel/motel closer to the fun. Here's a few pics I took from 2011. A rider's dream rally. Venders, dealer parties, Ozark mountains, RIDES, FOOD, etc... If you don't have fun here, there's no place on this planet you could.
  21. Nothing should pop out at you. Both the throttle & cruise control cables are attached by a bracket on each end inside the throttle rotor. Each bracket is held by a philips screw. Just loosen the throttle side and remember what number and side/route the cable came from. The rotor is numbered. The upper cable goes to position 4 on the rotor & the lower cable goes to position 3. You shouldn't have to take anything to the workbench. It could be done on the RSV. Just remember to organize your cables in the same way when installing or you'll have a problem w/ putting on the side cover. Yamaha didn't give us much room under the cover.
  22. My wife and I took the HF trailer along for a 2 week trip to Vegas. The pay load was appox. 300lbs (suitcases, camp gear, cooler, a few extra cycle & trailer parts/tools). In 5000 miles, the only problem we had was w/ the 4 to 5 wire converter. The trailer pulled very well in the desert @ 85mph, in the 85mph test areas of Nevada. We ran into a fellow rider that changed his wheels to 12". He didn't change the finders, just the wheels. He didn't use a offset hitch, so the trailer slanted down tward the cycle. I greased the wheel bearings before we left. HF doesn't put much grease in them.
  23. Hey Dano, get well soon. I'm in. Hope this helps. Haven't been on email, so I'm a little late. Besides, a trailer sounds like a nice plus:322:.
  24. Earl, Its nice to know that sometimes you need our help instead of alway bugging you. Everyone is asking the basic question to help you. Voltage phase (single or 2-3 phase), voltage and current (amps), size of shaft, or better yet, photos of name plate w/ info and motor itself. I think we're all glad that we can finally help you. At least I am:lightbulb:
  25. No problem w/ the front wheel bearings and will have the forks off to inspect the steering head bearings tommorw. Put on a few miles this year (over 12,000) and started getting a little shimmy in the front.
