Windshield Advice Needed
OldBear replied to BG Hawks's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
What he said! I cut mine down as well-used it that way in hot weather and then used the Yamaha TALL shield when it got cold. No problems with delaminating and both worked very well for me! -
If you have any problems, ask to speak to the Patient Services Representative. Their job is to help resolve issues. Also check with the Veterans Service Organizations. You "may" be entitle to a VA pension benefit based on income. Good Luck!

I love mine as well. Feels like a MUCH smaller machine when you're at low speeds OR when you're really "cooking" out on the road. It's my first Honda after many multiples of Yam, Suz, Kaw, Duc and BMW, and at this point I'm still VERY impressed and pleased. I've just had mine for a few weeks (and have been away from home for 4 of those so I couldn't ride!!) and I've already busted 2k miles. Mileage so far is a touch over 40 and that includes a good bit of high speed interstate miles. We've got N-43 helmets with J&M headsets and I put a set of Kury highway pegs and passenger armrests on it. Congrats and enjoy your new ride!

You may want to check out the Nolen N-43 as well. These can be either 3/4 or, if you wish, full face (by adding the chin bar). We got ours from J&M with the headsets installed and are VERY pleased with them. Seems to me that they have more "peripheral vision" than most other helmets I've tried (though in all fairness, I'm used to full face types which have more restrictive vision than 3/4's typically do.) Anyway, the 43's are very light weight and quite comfortable. Good luck with whatever you go with!

Having owned an FJR, I can tell you that answer is "too fast"..... The Feejer is a SERIOUSLY fast touring machine...
-
What he said! I saw an indicated 110 on mine ONCE and it still was accelerating pretty hard....
-
Yeah, I hit some pretty good rain and wind the other day myself, and the Wing handled "VERY" well. My worst MPG thus far is 38, best is 43.4. I really am enjoying the Wing so far...

Remember always that the MOST important feature of a handgun is reliability. Whether it costs $200 or $2000 does not matter near as much as does it go "bang" each time, every time, with any ammunition you choose to carry and after having lived in a holster for a LONG time without having been fired. IF it doesn't function reliably you are only fooling yourself about being protected. I've trained a couple folks with the Bersa's and have had excellent experience with them. I also had a friend whose "custom" .45 would NOT reliably feed.....Just sayin', price is not "the" criteria. Typically you get what you pay for BUT inexpensive doesn't necessarily mean "no good" and expensive doesn't always mean "great". Personally, a Para Companion DA .45 works pretty well, though I've also used an S&W Centennial and an NAA Guardian at times. Get something that works for YOU, practice with it, and carry it. I carry (permit for the past 11 years) for the same reason I've got a spare tire on the truck....I don't plan on using it, BUT if I need it nothing else will do...

Just got home from a trip out to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Put about 1100 miles on it on the trip. A LOT of mountain roads in addition to the Parkway. Also, had the pleasure (?) of riding through the rain on mountain roads with WET leaves on 'em on the trip home. My impressions are as follows: Great ride, very comfortable and stable, Handling is very good, much lighter feel than the Venture Lowest MPG for the trip was 39.8, best was 43.9 Seat is NOT as comfortable as the RSV but still pretty good LOVE the heated grips/seat on those 40 F mornings Overall, I am Very Pleased. Bike is now 14 days old and has 1650 miles on it!

It's the "Package One" version. Nav (and XM radio) are added to package 2 (for an MSRP of $2k--the GW forum articles I read AND the dealer recommended against it even though he had one with that package in stock that I looked at. He said he didn't think it was worth the money!! I stuck my own XM on it and will mount my current GPS once I get a new RAM base for it. ABS is on Package 3 ($1K on top of Package 2) and then they've got the Airbag on Package 4 (no idea what THAT costs:rasberry:). I would have liked to had the ABS, but just couldn't see the extra $$, especially after I rode the demo and tried the linked brakes..they are really pretty decent, and significantly stronger than my Venture's even with the braided lines. The real clincher for me was the handling and power. This thing feels like a sport tourer but yet has the comforts of a full boat touring bike. Like the man said, test riding one is a mistake unless you want to be bitten by the bug! I'll try and get a picture (though I'm not really tech savvy...) Thanks for the kind words! I really enjoy the folks here so I'm not going anyplace. I've give y'all a more detailed report after we get back from the Blue Ridge. FWIW, wifey reports she likes it better than the Venture, and she'd never liked ANY bike until she sat on the RSV.....

Well, I did it. Took momma's car in for service and while I was there I walked across the street to a Kaw/Honda/KTM/Triumph dealer to look at the new Thunderbird. (It's not too bad by the way). Anyway, long story short a shiny new Titanium Goldwind caught my eye. I was just looking at it for a minute and the salesman comes up and starts talking, shortly thereafter I'm on a test ride on the GW demo. Went back the next day with the wife to let her try it on and wound up riding my shiny new Wing home. I really enjoyed my Venture, but I was absolutely "shocked" at the difference between it and the wing. In all fairness, the last wing I rode was a 1200 back in the day, but gee, what a ride this new puppy is! All the weight's down low, torque out the wazoo and handling that reminds me of my old FJR. I LOVE it. Wife and I are leaving Sunday for the Blue Ridge parkway on the Wing!! I can't wait!!

Yesterday wife and I were out fooling around and stopped at a shop that handled both Yamaha and Can Am. Well, there sat this black RT (tourer) fully loaded. Just for grins and giggles we took it for a test ride. While I have to admit it's pretty cool not having to worry about holding up a 900 lb bike when at a stop light, I found the steering to be "loose". It was VERY sensitive (guy at the dealership says it takes a while to get used to it?) Wife reports the pillion is comfortable (though NOT as good as our RSV) but that it felt like it was shifting from side to side while we were riding. (not sure if that was just me fooling with the bars to get a feel for it or ??) Anyway, pretty nice machine but just a touch on the weird side. Anybody else ridden one? If so, what did you think of the steering/handling? I don't "think" I'd get used to the handling very quickly.....Also, having no hand brake lever on the right grip seems a little strange.. Must be getting a little "oldfarty":backinmyday:

Be REAL careful at those islands that also have a diesel pump....Gas evaporates, diesel is just "there" and you can "enjoy?" it a LONG time after somebody spilled it....
-
And that's also a GOOD reason for not letting everybody who LOOKS at your bike when you're selling it to test ride it! Money talks, bs walks. You never know the skill level of a stranger when it comes to riding, no matter WHAT they may say.....

Looking hard at a new 665 to replace both existing nuvi and xm radio. Question is: Do I need a "hard connect" between the 665 and bike (though AUX input?) OR will it transmit directly through the Yamaha FM radio as I do with my existing XM radio? If I need a connecting cable, does it come with the unit or ? THANKS!

What He said! Those "loud pipes save lives idiots" are giving everyone who rides a bad name. Should change their motto to "loud pipes PO people"!. I've also noticed over the years that the LOUDER the pipes, the SLOWER the bike...the REAL quick bikes are almost always quieter....(Think FJR, Kawa Concours, BMW K1300gt, Honda ST or even a Hayabusa or Vmax!!!!) I had a set of aftermarket pipes on my Duc--they Did add power, BUT they were NOT obnoxiously loud!! Thanks to all the moron's out there, pipes like them will soon be illegal for everyone!

Stebel Air Horn question/discovery...
OldBear replied to bamico's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
+1 on the Carbon One bracket. Mounts up right like a factory unit, fits solidly and works great! Definitely a "must have" with the Steibel horn. And you WILL LOVE the way it sounds! -
I've been riding since the late 60's, but took an MSF course here in KY when we moved here a few years ago. I found it to be a good, solid, BASIC course. (As the instructor said at the end "Congratulations, you are now qualified to operate a 125cc motorcycle at low speed on a closed course under adult supervision!) IF the course is ALL you've got, you still need to learn a lot of stuff before you get on the street, HOWEVER, I sure wish I'd had something like this when I first started out all those years ago--would have saved my butt from gravel rash on a number of occassions, not to mention wear and tear on my bike at the time. Like most guys my age, I learned by "braile". (Remember the old stories we were told? "Never use the front brake, it'll through you over the handlebars!" "Never turn the bars when actually riding, you steer by body english leaning the bike", etc. etc. Sheesh, it's a wonder any of us survived long enough to GET any real riding experience!

Any cure for the engine noise problem???I know resistor type spark plugs work in cars, would something like that help or ???? All advice/suggestions GREATLY appreciated!

BIG BEAR! You Da Man! I have KNOW idea "why", but it worked out exactly as you stated it would. THANK YOU!! This site is "the best"! I don't care what the problem may be, somebody's already had it and found a solution!!! THANKS AGAIN!

FWIW I just went out to the garage. Bike not running, switch ON, speaker setting on "H/S" and headsets NOT connected. I have a constant high pitch sound audible through the speakers (albeit very low volume since they're in the H/S position). I'm going out now and try hooking up both helmets at the same time and "see" if that helps. I'm REALLY stumped on this one! Thanks for the feedback, and if anybody's got any other ideas PLEASE let me know asap. THANKS and I'll get back on status with both hooked up!

Victory dealer in BG is very customer friendly. I went in looking a couple years ago right after the VISION came out...I couldn't get past they look but they said "ride it and you'll like it". Well, I did about a 50 mile test ride and it DOES ride out pretty darn nice. Very good low speed handling for such a big bike and a nice ride. We didn't go for one because (1) momma couldn't get comfy 'cause of the position of the bags (2) the bags are teeny, and (3) it is pretty "strange" looking. From the rider's seat though, it's a DARN NICE BIKE! Harley dealers in my experience are pretty "stingy" with demo rides, though they are available. Local BMW shop has always given a ride anytime I was interested. NONE of the local Yamaha shops has ever offered me a test ride... Just my experience.....
