MKII bags & trunk for my MKI
Yammer Dan replied to a1bummer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You just have to own both and see what a pain those MKll bags are. Not that much more room. Give me the MKl anytime. -
Member here "Grindo" has a Road Star that he has really changed. Looks great!!

I do a lot of things that could have ill effects. Running a 1st Gen at 115 MPH with only a front brake trying to catch a 2nd gen that snuck up on me. But I can't blame it on the carbs!! TCI on that piece of junk maybe....
-
Put mine in a show one time and got "It ain't a Hardley" Asked him if he wanted to run that Hardley title for title. No takers.

I'm right in the middle of the state. Can't go in a wrong direction!!!

Oooopps!! Almost a entire 2nd Gen on there right now. Good time to grab those parts that have fallen off while trying to catch the 1st Gens.....

If you go with the washers take one with you to Home depot or wherever to see what you need. -
Oil Leak Question from Venture Newbi
Yammer Dan replied to mshowe's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You can not tighten the valve cover bolts. They are shoulder bolts and only tighten so far. They are probally as tight as they are going to go. you can check these and make sure they are bottomed out but do not overtourqe them as you can break them and then you are really in trouble. Another cure is to remove the bolts and add a thin washer to help them them snug the gasket up. I did this and no more leaks. You need to do all 16 bolts. There is thread here showing how to do this with paper but I used thin metal washers. Takes a little work but saves buying gaskets. The washers I found would not fit all the way up on to the shoulder bolt and I had to take a round file and enlarge the hole in the washers to make them fit. Home Depot sells fiber washers that would probally do a better job. They are a lot more costly but I will check them next time as I think they will work without having to cut. Not a hard job if you understand what I'm trying to say. The washers need to go pass the shoulder on the bolts. -

Yamaha had such a great idea with the removable luggage. Made working on the bike and cleaning it so much easier. Changing it one of the biggest goofs they have made. -
And Eck should be HAPPY!!:clap2:

Thought these were a hard to find item for 2nd Gens? Or most of them come with them?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Utopia-driver-backrest-/280551056609?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories Thought this might be great deal for somebody. Trying to find a 86 - 93 one but when I'm going any distance I have my bag back there and don't really need it.

Didn't get much out of mine. Sould have got my extra specs to see what was going on!! I'm not real impressed by it.

Leaky carbs

If you haven't ran fuel threu them much yet they may just need chance to settle down. Not too early for Sea-Foam. I would use a little during Break-in. Or some Marvel Mystery Oil would be good. -
Is that safe??

I have a bottle of cleaning solution with it. Only use 1/4 teaspoon at time it says. It only runs in 180 second cycles

I grabbed a great deal on a Ultra Sonic Cleaner that was a display. Got everything but the box I think. Thing is how can I be sure it is working? I know clean something. I ran some coins thru the cycle and couldn't see any difference in them. Only used water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Thought I read somewhere that it would work. Only got 5 days to return if it don't work. Dodn't want to make mess til I really got ready to use it. Is there a simple test for it? I think it is big enough to do carbs one at a time. New Toy??

Tach drops to zero. Put spare TCI in and tach works. Swap back to orginal TCI tach drops to zero. Bike runs. Seems to run OK. Only way this thing runs as good as I would like it to is WTFO. -
Seems I've hear of that place... I ever get caught up I might get up that way. Things been crazy round here and bike broke again.
