Motocom RiderLink ST-1 Intercom Review
silverdeer0454 replied to silverdeer0454's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Accidentally deleted the PM from the person who wanted the info so I will just repost. -
Several folks knew that I was buying the Motocom Riderlink intercom system and I promised a review after I had the chance to test it. All in all I would have to say that I am pleased with the system, even at highway speeds it works pretty well as it allows conversation between the driver and passenger with little effort. The product comes well packaged and has enough extra connections to allow a MP3 player, cell phone, GPS, and CB to be hooked up to the unit. The built in FM radio has some drawbacks, actually to be honest it's pretty much useless. Sound quality and reception are very poor. The biggest problem that I have run into is the adhesive that holds the Velcro to the helmet and to the mike boom will not work with many helmets. I and my spouse wear Fulmer helmets and the plastic located right behind the padding is very slick. I ended up using "Liquid Nails" to hold the small patch of Velcro to the inside of the helmet. The only additional thing I believe the manufacture could do is either boost the volume between the driver and passenger or add a volume control. In heavy traffic it was a little hard to hear the passenger but it was still acceptable. In stop and go traffic (common in the Seattle area) I open the helmet visor all the way for air and added volume would have been nice. If your looking for an inexpensive intercom system I would recommend this product, but shop around! Prices ranged from 149.00 to 225.00. At last check 6/13/09, CB world out of Oregon had 4 units remaining.

Hey Beer, Those of us on the West Coast would have emailed and called them as well! That would teach em, huh??

I have had that happen while driving a 1991 Geo Metro (not much bigger than a motorcycle). Passenger side door looked like it was hit with a bowling ball, could not open that door and my spouse had to exit my door after we pulled over. I tend to speed up when I am next to an 18 wheeler, the worst ones here in Washington are logging trucks. They are dropping chunks of wood all the time.

Left the dealership where I bought my 05 RSTD last month and less than 2 miles down the road I am trying to figured out why I'm sputtering and running rough. Put the tank on "Res" and it worked well. 5.121 gallon fill up took care of the problem. Next trip to the dealership I mentioned it to the GM and got a free top off. So far thats the most gas I have had to put in the bike.

Even tho I didn't try it THIS time: I probably will on the next change because I have noticed no change with the synthetic Lucas oil. The whine/chirp is still there. Here's the link: http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1_V-Twin_20W-50.aspx

Geeze Red! I never considered that! Actually I have found that I am real good at shaking my head and agreeing to things I shouldn't. Besides..We never argue, we have discussions, decide I am wrong, and move on.

Hey Wes, I just ordered the system and it should be here by the end of the week. I will post feedback as soon as I have had the chance to test it. I wonder if it has a "quiet/mute" button for me to use on my spouse? hmmm...guess I will have to see.

The one thing I have learned since joining this web site is the amount of knowledge contained and shared by the members. I am in the market for an intercom system because I am tired of hollering and getting punched in the side, tapped on the helmet, and ignored when I have a question of my passenger. Here is a link to the unit I am considering. Any suggestions? BTW...I have read several links about the subject but I just want to be sure. http://www.wearecb.com/store/motorcycle-intercom-rf-limited-riderlink-st1-audio-system-p-3122.html

The dreaded 'Chirp'
silverdeer0454 replied to BJB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I got the oil/filter changed today. I now have Lucas oil synthetic on board and have noticed no change in the chirp. I will just have to get used to that noise. One thing for sure the rest of the motor is quiet now and it shifts without the big "clunk" as it goes into first from neutral. -
I know where that is..My oldest son is a corrections officer in Poughkeepsie..I hope to visit him in the next couple of years.

http://www.ecomotorcompany.com/default.htm I have a deposit on this one but doubt I will get it this year due to one unexplained delay after another. So instead of waiting any longer I got smart and traded in my Honda 750 Shadow for my 05 RSTD. Here in Washington state a new law goes into effect in July that defines a motorcycle this way: "Motorcycle" means a motor vehicle designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, on which the driver: (1) Rides ((astride the motor unit or power train)) on a seat or saddle and the motor vehicle is designed to be steered with a handle bar or (2) Rides on a seat in a partially or completely enclosed seating area that is equipped with safety belts and the motor vehicle is designed to be steered with a steering wheel. A person holding a valid driver's license may operate a motorcycle as defined under (2) without a motorcycle endorsement. Up until the law was signed by the Governor I would have needed a motorcycle endorsement (which I have anyways) a TRIKE endorsement, and would have had to wear a helmet in that 3 wheel car. It still registers as a motorcycle which allows HOV lane use with 1 person, and, it allows "first on, first off" on the state ferry system. However...with the ferry system here in Washington you are taking a chance of some serious name calling with references to your upbringing and parents plus possible damage to the "autocycle" if you push the "I can get on first" with the EMC3 Commuter.

I'll stick with my first choice and try the synthetic first and like you, give it a real chance. If it doesn't quiet the whine/chirp then no big deal because everyone here has said it's not causing damage. I can get used to anything that causes lots of noise...I was married once!

Getting an oil/filter change on Saturday. Was thinking of using the Lucas Synthetic Oil...Now you got me reconsidering.

The dreaded 'Chirp'
silverdeer0454 replied to BJB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I bought a 2005 RSTD with 2600 miles on it on the 16th of May. Because the bike was a repo there is no maint record. I don't even know if the P.O. even did the 600 mile check. I have the whine/chirp like many others. It's more noticeable when I wear my half helmet. The bike goes in on Saturday for an oil/filter change and a quick once over by a mechanic that I trust. I'm going to try Lucas oil synthetic and see what happens. Results on Monay the 8th of June. Despite the noise I love the bike and don't miss my Honda 750 Shadow at all! -
I use the same program and it seems to beat the others hands down. I also eliminated 90% of my computer problems by using Firefox instead of IE. Seems like I get fewer registry and spyware issues with Firefox.

They say he was going 45 - 50 mph and he was in the carpool lane. Still haven't heard his condition. Bike looks like something other than a crotch rocket.
