The taking of Yammer Dans bike ... Metric Thunder in WV
silverdeer0454 replied to a topic in Watering Hole
Steve, That has to be one of the best written short stories I have read in a long, long time! It had me laughing like crazy here at work. After passing the link around to a couple of the surveillance operators they were impressed with the story as well. You are an awesome story teller for sure! I wish we did gatherings, eat and meets, and stuff like that around here more often! -
You can add Billy Mays, the "Oxi-clean and Kaboom" guy who passed away today. And I haven't seen anything about Edward Leo Peter "Ed" McMahon, Jr, Johnny Carson's side kick passing on the 23rd of June. My prayers and thoughts are with all of the celebs who have passed. At one time or another they have given joy, peace, music, and talent to someone. They have caused us to smile, laugh, sing along, and for those who can, we have danced along with them. Like em or not, we did watch them grow and pass on.

Glad you are ok and not hurt too bad. The bike can be replaced.

Motocom RiderLink ST-1 Intercom Review
silverdeer0454 replied to silverdeer0454's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I did research the Starcom 1 and it seems to be an excellent unit. The only problem I saw was the price. I paid around $150.00 for the Riderlink and after using it for the past few weeks I would have to say it "adequate" for the job given the price. Like many things you get what you pay for and for the price it's not a bad unit. My only concern was, and continues to be, the level of volume between the passenger and driver. When hooked to an MP3 or cell phone the volume is excellent because the MP3 or cell phone has better output to the master box. My first choice would have been the Chatterbox, but once again price was the deciding factor. -
Why do the ventures whine?
silverdeer0454 replied to Red Rider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
After owning my "new to me" 05 RSTD for a month and putting 2200 miles on it, I am getting used to the whine. As mentioned in an earlier post: I tell my buddies it's the Turbo Waste Gate. After twisting the throttle and leaving the Honda's and Kawasaki's behind....They believe me! -
That is a SWEET looking ride! The color looks awesome! My girlfriend took a look and is now jealous and wants to know if we are going to add a side car.

Better check your bolts!
silverdeer0454 replied to waterbug's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
After reading the posts I decided to grab the allen wrench, cresent wrench, and pliers and start a front to back check of every nut and bolt I could find. Several were loose and easy to tighten, especially the ones holding on the right side hard bag. I felt comfortable that everything was great, until the ride home at night. As I'm headed down a DARK road, searching for animals...the passing light on the right hand side started shaking and it then turned into a search light, looking for aircraft! Remember to check the screws that hold those puppies on. The right side screw was gone and the left side was loose. Actually used a bandaid from my first aid kit to hold the light together until I got home. -
Great photos! Wish we could do more of that around here. I hope to have plenty of pictures for the Moving Wall escort here in Washington on July 8th.

All I really wanted to do was mount a GPS on the motorcycle so I can get lost in style. Reading your post has given me some more ideas now! Spouse isn't going to be real happy when I start spending more $$$ on new things for the ride. Maybe if I convinced her that any new accessories will benefit her and provide more riding enjoyment!

Got it figured out, of course I blew a fuse on the adapter that goes to my GPS. Once replaced it works well. I have a Garmin Nuvi that I have been riding around with using just the built in battery. I have been using the suction cup mount on the wind screen and even after 4 or 5 hours of riding it never lost suction and stayed put. Problem was the battery died after a couple of hours. Now it runs off the 12 V power outlet and the battery stays charged. Once again THANKS!!!!
-
Yours was one of the posts that I saw Tom. The location is perfect and that's where the outlet will go. I just wasn't sure which wire on the aux DC was positive or negative, or if it really matters.
-
I must be blind because I don't see it But I will keep looking!! It's got to be there.

My eyes are starting to get really tired from looking at almost 20 pages of posts about GPS hookups, 12 volt power outlets, hooking direct to battery, not doing that, fuse, no fuse, etc, etc. I have a 2005 RSTD. Here's my question: The aux DC terminal under the seat has a brown lead and a black lead, the 12 volt power outlet has a red wire and white wire. Does it matter which color is hooked to what? Also, is the aux DC terminal already fuse protected? Just want to make sure I do this right because I still have 47 payments left on the bike Seems like a simple question but I have been told that I often do the simple things with a deal of difficulty.

Here's the web site for the moving wall: http://www.avtt.org/ And the 2009 schedule: http://www.avtt.org/2009%20Schedule%20T1.htm I'll be doing the escort from Vancouver Washington to Bellingham Washington in July.

Had the same problem with my 05 RSTD on the left side. The button took ALOT of force to press in. After pulling the plastic cover I used a small round file to sort of polish the area that comes in contact with the rods. Then as Salty recommended I used some graphite on that area, put it all back together and it's as smooth as silk now! Even tho I didn't have problems with the other side I took the time to do it as well.

The link didn't work like I thought it would, so here is the info: In order to change this setting on the zūmo 550, please follow these steps: In the Main Menu, tap on the Settings icon. Tap on "Locale" The second line on this screen has a picture of a mouth. To the right, the current voice for the GPS device is listed. Tap it to change the voice. Select a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names. Select "OK". The voice has now been changed. The device should now speak street names.

Try this link and see if it helps: http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/support/searchsupport?search_key=zumo+550+no+street+names

June 15th, did you ride to work today?
silverdeer0454 replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
I ride everyday to work, 25 miles one way. I just called work and there are 7 motorcycles in the employee parking lot most belong to Tribal Gaming Agents (my group). When I go this afternoon that will make 8. Love working at the Casino! -
I didn't even see this one when I was searching the links. Thanks for the info and the link. I sent a PM to him and I hope it's available.

What do these plugs say

Taking a risk of this being a dumb question, but here goes. I am looking for a hard (not leather) travel trunk that will fit my 2005 RSTD. I have searched several threads and most of it relates to the venture. Will a Venture travel Trunk fit a RSTD? I have seen several places on the internet that sell travel trunks but nothing that is specific to my ride. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am not worried about the color because one of the guys I work with paints cars as a sideline, painting the trunk to match my colors would be easy for him to do.
