Allan. Words are not enough to express the saddness I feel as I share your sorrow at this time.

Question for metalurgists and welders, Professional or amateur.
Black Owl replied to fixit3546's topic in General Tech Talk
Excellent thread with some great info. Guess no one does gas welding any more. In my younger days I was a certified Oxy welder and did many a frame repair and modifications with Oxy welds. Have been considering taking a welding course at the local CC to get up to speed on arc welding...... -
Allan is absolutely correct. The "C" designates the bike as being built to meet the California emission standards. I believe the DSC has a fuel vapor canister. Check your VIN. If the 4th position is numeric, the 7th position will be a "C" if it is a California model.

Before CHrlie managed to crash the site with his iMAC ( ), there were several pages of embarassing moments stories. Lots and lots of folks here have earned their membership in the Dumped Scoot club.

Looking for a chrome trunk rack for my 86 VR
Black Owl replied to ctraylor's topic in Bike Accessories
If anyone is still looking for a trunk rack, there is one on E-bay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Chrome-Trunk-Rack_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ84147QQihZ006QQitemZ160052953491QQrdZ1 It's listed as for a 99 up, but it looks like it would fit the 86-93 1st Gen. -
Had me a picture of a leaf blower that I sent to Brad T a while back. Can't find it right now. Maybe he still has it and can forward it to you....... and the folks in Toronta don't need a Leaf blower, ..... cuz their Leaf's really s.............

Just thought I'd take a few minutes to say something nice about the great customer service from New Enough. Ordered a jacket from them last week, and ordered the wrong size. They have an excellent exchange policy. Ordered the correct size on an exchange and they ship the replacement jacket out even before they got the original back. Now that is customer service.......... Highly recommend them. If anyone needs riding gear, check them out at www.newenough.com you won't be disappointed.

Over the years I have used both the vacuum gauges and the merc sticks. Now have the Carb tune and will probably never use either the gauges or the merc stick again. Just my 2cents worth.

Great idea. The ingenuity of the folks here never ceases to amaze me.

For those that may not be aware of it, the names of 103 Canadian citizens are also on the wall. Over 50,000 Canadians came to the US to enlist to go to Vietnam. This almost equalled the number of US draft dodgers that ended up in Canada. After their service, the majority of these Ghost Warriors returned to Canada where they were completely ignored by the US Govt until Ronald Ragan finally acknowledged there contribution and signed a bill authorizing them to receive their full military benefits. There is also a memorial wall in Ontario to those Canadians who died in Vietnam.

Carl, Probably going to step on a few toes here. A hypercharger is basically a fancy air ram originally designed to go on Harleys. Much like the Tornado for cars..... It is intended to increase air flow into the carbs. Requires re-jetting to increase the HP. At best they give a max of 10HP but in many instances they either do nother or actually decrease HP. My personal thought is that the increase in HP actually comes from the weight reduction in the wallet.

Put one of those in both my saddle bags and my trunk last year. A great help when you are rummaging around in a saddle bag in the dark.

I may be wrong (I usually am). But, I suspect that a closer reading of that label with show that the fuel grade is regular or research grade 91 RON. Different countries have some variation in what RON (Research Octane Number) is standard for gasoline, or petrol. In the UK, ordinary regular unleaded petrol is 91 RON (not commonly available), premium unleaded petrol is always 95 RON, and super unleaded is usually 97-98 RON. However both Shell and BP produce fuel at 102 RON for cars with hi-performance engines. In the US, octane ratings in fuels can vary between 86-87 AKI (91-92 RON) for regular, through 89-90 (94-95) for mid-grade (European Premium), up to 90-94 (RON 95-99) for premium unleaded or E10 (Super in Europe) If yours shows something different, maybe you could post a pic of it.

Never tried the Draggin Jeans. But, IMHO, if you want good, comfortable riding pants, look at 511 tactical pants.

In my younger days, I spent many a night sleeping on the ground under a tarp thrown over my motorcycle. Always said that I needed to design a tent that I could just drive the scoot into. Well, someone has finally done it. http://domsoutdoor.com/default.asp?sid=E092206&eid=E092206&eicioi=6742 (select tents) While the ATV shelter needs a few improvements, it may be just the ticket for the venture camper...........

Okay, for those that can not find the link http://www.chromeworld.com/ However, going to the site this way does not earn any income for the VentureRider site.

Okay, for those folks that feel that uncontrollable urge to add chrome and other accessories to their 2d gen scoots to feel better about being out classed by the 1st gens. In the lower right corner of the home page there is a link titled.. Free Goldwing Accessories...... Click on this link. You will find a section for Yamaha accessories. One interesting piece is an eagle head with lighted eyes for the front fender. Price ain't that bad either..... And Blusees, they also have accessories for your 750. Nothing for the 1st Gens. Guess they also realize that we don't need anything else.............

The salvage value of the scoot should be somewhere in the range of 10-15 % of the settlement. Depending on what they want for the salvage and how many salvageable parts are available, you should be able to get your money back plus some by parting it out. JMHO
