  2. Does your motor oil contain friction modifiers? Friction modifiers and mild antiwear agents are polar molecules added to lubricants for the purpose of minimizing light surface contacts (sliding and rolling) that may occur in a given machine design. These are also called boundary lubrication additives. Esters and natural and synthetic fatty acids, and some solid materials such as graphite and molybdenum disulfide, are used for these purposes. These molecules have a polar end (head) and an oil-soluble end (tail). Once placed into service, the polar end of the molecule finds a metal surface and attaches itself. If one could see the orientation of the molecules on the surface, it would appear something like the fibers of a carpet, with each molecule stacked vertically beside the others. As long at the frictional contact is light, these molecules provide a cushioning effect when one of the coated surfaces connects with another coated surface. If the contact is heavy, then the molecules are brushed off, eliminating any potential benefit of the additive. When the machine designer anticipates more than light surface contact (from shock loading for instance) then the designer would select a stronger type of friction modifier characterized as an antiwear additive. Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate is a common antiwear agent. This type of additive literally reacts with the metal surface when the reaction energy (temperature) is high enough. The reaction layer provides sacrificial surface protection. As the loading and metallic contact increase, the strength of additive and the strength of the reaction process increases. This leads to the use of sulphur-phosphorus based EP chemicals. The EP additives form organo-metallic salts on the loaded surfaces that serve as sacrificial films to protect against aggressive surface damage.

  4. If a set of floor boards shows up on E-Bay, make sure they are for the 86-93. The ones for the 83-85 will not work on the 86-93. Personally, I took mine off and just went with highway pegs...........
  5. Sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere. Since the fuse block is overheating, I suspect it will be in a positive conductor. But it could simply be a bad ground.
  6. Well my friend, actually it was well over 200 times the thread had been viewed. And you are right, each time you visit the thread the number of times viewed is increase. However, at the bottom of the thread are the names of the members who have read the thread. The only get listed once, no matter how many times they view the thread. And yes, I physically counted each name before I made the post....

  9. Okay......... I'll look at the other side of the coin. I think a newsletter is an excellent idea. As Don indicated, there are many who do not visit the sight often. Subsequently, a lot of information gets buried. This was evident by the number of inquries we received concerning the dates and location of the 2007 International VentureIn. Right up to a week before the event, folks were asking for the dates and locations. I think it also has a lot of possibilities to both inform, entertain, and help.... With that being said, if we decide to move forward with the newsletter, and no one else steps forward, I would be willing to take it on to get the ball rolling.

Okay folks, when I sent out the msg for Reiny about the meeting, I started it off with a caviot to respond to the msg by sending a PM to Reinyrooster or to send him an E mail at Reinyschmidt@rogers.com. As I have received several responses, which have been forwarding to Reinyrooster, it dawned on me that maybe I wasn't too clear with the instructions......(Should have realized there might be a problem as the msg went to our friends north of the border ) So, hopefully this will help............   16. Heck Charlie, you don't need no winter tyres. Just let about 15# of air out of the tyres and buy a large bottle of bleach. That will get you through the snow, and if you pour enough bleach on the tyres, you can even run them on ice.

So, if anyone took digital photos, if you could put them on a disc and send them to me it would be greatly appreciated.   22. Not sure what the 99 RSV has for rear turn signals. If they are using a lamp socket and 1156 lamp.... you can switch out the 1156 socket for an 1157 socket. As stated, not sure exactly what they are using, but switching from an 1156 to an 1157 lamp socket is a fairly simple process. You will need to solder a ground to the 1157 socket and splice into the tail light wiring (that should be the blue wire) to get constant power to the low illumination filament. If you run into no problemts you are looking at a 2 hour job and less than $15.00 in parts/wiring.
